Overview

About the property

6 bedroom, 4 bathroom compound with hillside views pool and privacy.

Set in the hills above Bagnols-sur-Ceze, and in the heart of the Cotes-du-Rhone wine region, Mas de l'Olivette is a wonderfully inviting and peaceful compound that offers easy access to a host of beautiful and historic locations.

Originally constructed in the mid-1800's, Mas de l'Olivette retains the traditional charm and architecture of it's two main structures, yet provides newly remodeled rooms, an expansive pool, ping-pong table, trampoline and an inviting landscape that includes a broad lawn and small olive grove.

The homes provide an ideal layout for a single large family or comfortably accommodates two families with privacy.

The Mas is a three bedroom, two bath home that includes kitchen, dining room, living room and a large family room with ping pong table.

The gite was refurbished in 2012 and provides three additional bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchenette.

A large terrace connects the two properties, includes a gas grill and is ideal for outdoor dining.

A broad lawn flows to the pool, which is expansive at 16 meters X 7 meters. Wonderful for swimming laps, or just lounging next to the olive grove. An electronic pool cover stored under deck can be closed to keep little ones safe.

There is also a large trampoline for kids and those young at heart.

Close to town with its large market, restaurants and stores, the property is extremely quiet and peaceful.

It's location offers superb access to a host of other activities and touring destinations - including Uzes, Avignon, Pont du Gard, Val de Ceze, Chateauneuf du Pape, Ardeche, Arles, Nimes and the coast.

Why David McSpadden chose Languedoc-Roussillon

Wonderful proximity to a host of differing activities. Great for the outdoor enthusiast, the wine lover, those wanting to explore roman history and those simply wanting to chill in a lovely rural location with easy proximity to amenities.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Sitting next to a regional park and set among vineyards, we love the hikes and long running trails right out our door. There's a flat evening stroll through the neighbors vineyard, steeper trails up the ridge with views across the Rhone to Mt. Ventoux and a set of rolling trails through the woods. You can even walk out to Caesars Camp - ruins from where the Roman army controlled the Rhone valley for over 500 years.

heaven on earth

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at mas des olivettes. Quiet and beautiful place inside and outside. The mas and the bergerie are spacious and very well decorated. Rooms are big as well as the numerous bathrooms. We enjoyed our meals on the terrasses. The garden and swimming pool are huge and again beautiful. In few words :heaven on earth. Impatient to return there.

Great houses with beautiful back yard and large pool

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (5 grown ups, 4 kids ages 3-10) had a great 4 day stay at Mas de l’Olivette. The house and property were perfect – the kids enjoyed countless hours in the pool, the adults took full advantage of the opportunity to road bike / trail run and we were able to explore the area with some great day trips (Uzes, Chateauneuf-du-Pape). Mas de l’Olivette was exactly what we were envisioning when we set out to find a house to relax in in the French countryside.

The town of Bagnols-sur-Ceze was decent, but not as cute as some of the other towns in the region -- that said, it's only a 30 minute drive from a bunch of other great towns. We did have a bit of an issue with a large number of bees / hornets / wasps being attracted to the edge of the pool - while disconcerting at first, they left us alone when we just let them be. We were told that they come and go and that they like the pool as a water source. It was also hot (95 degrees F) when we were there in early July and the houses are not air conditioned - however, we found that while proper management (keeping windows & shutters closed during the day and opening at night / early morning) the inside of the houses remained largely comfortable. We found the house to be very clean and tidy upon our arrival (in contrast to what some other reviewers noted) and the owners were super responsive leading up to and during our stay.

Hoping we can make in back to Mas de l’Olivette in the not-too-distant future.

Vacances parfaites

  • 5 of 5

The Cotes-de-Rhone area features many great vineyards as well as major historic sites in Avignon, Pont-du-Gard, Nimes, Orange and Arles. From our home, easily accessible are spectacular deep caves in Orgnac to the north, the dramatic gorges of the Ardeche that lead to the Pont-d'Arc, and swimming and cliff jumping at the cascades near La Roque-sur-ceze.

Tavel, which boasts the countries best rose wines, lies just to our south, and Lirac (which boasts the same) is just beyond.

The Val-de-Ceze begins on the north side of Bagnols. La Roque-sur-Ceze is framed into the hillside and is of the loveliest villages in France. Just 5 minutes further to the north is the monastery of Valbonne, which is open to tourists, offers concerts in August and sells a decent bottle of wine. A bit further west, Goudargues with it's canal running through the center of town is filled with restaurants and boutiques. Cornillon gets less traffic, but offers spectacular views of the valley as well as many small art studios. Montclus is set just beyond lavender fields along the river Ceze. Barjac sits at the top of the valley and features many narrow cobblestone streets, restaurants and shops -- as well as a massive brocade during the summer. All are inviting and charming towns.

The dramatic Ardeche valley runs just north of the Val de Ceze. Aigueze is a lovely cliff-side village overlooking the Ardeche. The drive along the cliffs is well worth the effort and the Pont-d'Arc is spectacular and unique.

To the south, the gracious village of Uzes is only 20 minutes by car. It boasts thriving markets on both Wednesday's and Saturdays as well as lovely plazas and shops. Pont-du-Gard is just 15 minutes east of Uzes. A float in waters beneath the aqueduct is not to be missed.
