About John Kennaman
Semi retired, we enjoy getting out of town. 60 miles drive from Albuquerque NM. The Burlington trains go along I 40 and cross over twice. We go to our mountain home to get away from the city life It is very peaceful to enjoy the out doors
John Kennaman purchased this Cabin in 2005
Why John Kennaman chose Grants
The home is on a dead end road, very peaceful. It has five types of trees and natural forest grasses. Elk and deer come into the yard to eat the grass. The wood peckers and other birds come to nest and eat the bugs. The county road is paved to the main road about a mile from the cabin, you have year around access and the county maintains the roads when it snows. You are at the base of the mountain @ 7300 ft.
What makes this Cabin unique
You are in a canyon surrounded by pinon and cedar trees and Mountain tops. There are 2 dry creeks that run when it rains. The birds are in the oak and pinion trees nesting and hanging out . The neighbors (about 4) are about a foot ball field away, you can hear them but not see them. There is no cell phone service but if you go to the main road by the mail box you can get a signal. There is a land line for making calls it comes with free long distance in the us only

The cottage was spacious, had very warm decorum, the owners thought of everything including nightlights in several rooms, many accessories to gas grill, very serene, has every toiletry you can think of including new sets of toothbrush/paste and floss! Large, private property with locked gate and wide open spaces and spectacular view of the mountains and easy access to local sites and trails and historic Rt 66.
A little piece of heaven:)
Really nice home base for Mt Taylor adventures

The perfect get-away!
We had the most wonderful 2-week stay at John and Anita's cabin, and it was hard to leave the comfort and beauty of the place to return to "the real world"! When we booked we were a little uncertain about staying so far from town, but the location was actually perfect and the ride to and from Grants was enjoyably picturesque and not long at all. We easily found the cabin using our GPS, and from the moment we walked inside we felt right at home. Everything about the cabin was comfortable. It was cozy, but with enough room so that we never felt cramped. We cooked most of our meals here in the well-equipped kitchen, and also enjoyed the convenience of the washer and dryer. The heater in the living room kept the whole cabin warm when the temperature dipped. The hot water was plentiful, and the beds were comfy. This was just the perfect home-away-from-home, and we enjoyed returning here after our daily outings.
The cabin is secluded enough to be private, but there are neighbors nearby so we never felt completely isolated. We felt very safe here. The grounds are so pretty, with green grass and lovely trees. A wash runs through this area, which gives it all that rustic, high desert look that we love so much. A mesa rises above, as viewed out the back windows, and of course there is that gorgeous view of the top of Mt. Taylor from the front of the cabin. We enjoyed watching the birds, and saw a few jackrabbits and chipmunks.
There is a LOT to do in this area, and although it was tempting to just lounge around the cabin, we stayed quite active. We summited Mt. Taylor twice, hiked the Continental Divide Trail with the trailhead just right up the road, and also hiked at El Morro, El Malpais, Red Rock Park, and Chaco Canyon. We went to Gallup and Albuquerque. This was also a good location for driving out to Arizona to visit the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest National Park, as well as Hubbell Trading Post. The little city of Grants is unpretentious and welcoming. It isn't touristy, and that's actually what we like most about it. It's just real.
This was one of our best vacations, and this delightful cabin was a huge part of its success. We are hoping to be able to return for another two weeks next year. We had the privilege of meeting John on our last day, and it is clear that he takes great pride in his place. It's just about as perfect a get-away cabin as can be!
Thank you for your WOW review, sounds like you were in a National Forest Paradise! Thanks for leaving the goodies for the next traveler. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay and looking forward to your return. John and Anita
Beautiful location and private
We enjoyed our stay very much. The cabin was well-equipped and comfortable. Despite having neighbors relatively close, it felt very private (couldn't see any other cabins from the property. This was a great location to explore the area, including Chaco Canyon, Acoma Pueblo, El Malpais and El Morro.
I am so glad you enjoyed your stay and got to see all the places that Grants area has to offer. Thank you for taking care of our mountain get away home.
Prpoerty is nestled back in a corner with entire property fenced in. So quiet and comfortable. My husband and I spent 3 nights while hiking in the area. House is clean, comfortable and just a great place to get away. I would definitely stay again when in the area. Thank you John
We are so glad to have the dates available for your stay. We are happy that your enjoyed your time in the mountains for your to explore and check out all it has to offer. You are welcome back any time
Thanks John and Anita
