About John Kennaman

Semi retired, we enjoy getting out of town. 60 miles drive from Albuquerque NM. The Burlington trains go along I 40 and cross over twice. We go to our mountain home to get away from the city life It is very peaceful to enjoy the out doors

John Kennaman purchased this cabin in 2005

Why John Kennaman chose New Mexico

The home is on a dead end road, very peaceful. It has five types of trees and natural forest grasses. Elk and deer come into the yard to eat the grass. The wood peckers and other birds come to nest and eat the bugs. The county road is paved to the main road about a mile from the cabin, you have year around access and the county maintains the roads when it snows. You are at the base of the mountain @ 7300 ft.

What makes this cabin unique

You are in a canyon surrounded by pinon and cedar trees and Mountain tops. There are 2 dry creeks that run when it rains. The birds are in the oak and pinion trees nesting and hanging out .

The neighbors (about 4) are about a foot ball field away, you can hear them but not see them. There is no cell phone service but if you go to the main road by the mail box you can get a signal. There is a land line for making calls it comes with free long distance in the us only

Prpoerty is nestled back in a corner with entire property fenced in. So quiet and comfortable. My husband and I spent 3 nights while hiking in the area. House is clean, comfortable and just a great place to get away. I would definitely stay again when in the area. Thank you John

Late October Expedition!

  • 5 of 5

We would like to thank you for allowing us to share your cabin the end of this October. The house was clean & everything was in very good order. The location for our daily activities was ideal. Still close enough to Grants to allow quick trips for shopping, but was very quite & peaceful allowing for very restful nights.

We would definitely recommend your vacation to anyone who prefers quiet & the great outdoors.

Thank you so very much for sharing.

Grants New Mexico Cabin

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay in the cabin during our September Elk hunting trip. The cabin was clean and accommodating. The proximity to the mountain and the hunting area was good and we enjoyed being able to hunt during the day and get a good night sleep rather than having to camp on the mountain. Nice place and I'd stay there again.

Peace and quiet outside of town

  • 4 of 5

We were made quite comfortable at John and Anita's while visiting Grants for a three-day high school basketball tournament. Despite dark skies and snow on the ground, John ensured it was toasty inside when we arrived -- powerful(!) gas heater in living room, electric baseboard in bedroom, and little space heaters in the corners. The bed, a very good one, was made extra cozy dressed in red flannel sheets with black bears on them, and our sleep couldn't have been more peaceful. Although the kitchen was basically equipped, we ate at the Wow! diner in Milan (just down the highway from Grants), where the atmosphere is cool and the staff are super nice, and drank and dined all three nights at La Ventana, in Grants, a steak house and bar -- obviously popular with the locals -- also serving seafood and tasty Mexican fare with nurturing care and competence. A quick look into Kachina Country, a trading post offering primarily kachinas and carvings, turned into a long, fun, worthwhile exchange with the friendly and knowledgable owners, Roy and Shawnee. We'll be back!

Great Getaway

  • 4 of 5

This cabin at the base of the Cibola National Forest was a great. Hosted a cook out dinner for a youth baseball team and they enjoyed the Mt. scene and open space to run around. It was perfect during the rainy season that created a fresh, cool Mt. air especially in the morning. Made several trips to Grants for baseball games and it was a easy way to get to and from. We were very satisfied with this cabin and would definitely recommend it for other and I would stay there again.
