About Kathryn and Andrew Hanson
This is our piece of paradise. We reside in Boston Massachusetts and travel back and forth to enjoy our villa in between guest visits. Kathryn is a dermatology nurse practitioner and Andrew is an accomplished Reggae artist known as Kappo. Andrew has performed all over the Caribbean, he was the main performer on Royal Caribbean cruise ship Freedom of the Seas. We met on a cruise, fell completely in love and we were married at Castle Cove Villa on 11/22/2014. We bought the villa in July 2014 and we have renovated every room, bathroom and patio. We purchased all new furnishings and continue to improve the comforts and amenities for your enjoyment and ours!
Kathryn and Andrew Hanson purchased this Villa in 2014

OK, so here is an honest review of this property, keep in mind...it is Jamaica. Firstly, the property is lovely, well secured and clean. Beautiful views of the ocean, many swimming platforms with easy access by way of ladder just be conscious of the ocean activity as it can be quite rough with big swells so be careful if you have children. With respect to the home, it does need some TLC but in defense of the owner Kathryn, she is on it. She asks to tell her of any repairs that need doing so we did that through her home manager Teddy. Typical things like air conditioner repairs. Every room has an air conditioner and they all worked with the exception of the master bedroom. It was a bit of an inconvenience but opening the doors to the Caribbean breeze was good enough for me although some may want a cooler room. As mentioned in other reviews, the pool deck and the tiled walk way are slippery in bare feet but we found if you have your sandals on, it was fine. Again, be careful of children as they tend to run around barefoot. The only really potentially serious issue would be the access steps leading from the top to the platforms below. There needs to be a some form of barricade to avoid a falling hazard for unsuspecting guests...again, children. Kathryn is aware of it and one of our party members drew out what needed to be done and gave it to Teddy so I would suspect it will be completed in short order. In general, its a beautiful home that requires some minor tweaks, the owner Kathryn is a lovely woman who wants nothing more that for you to enjoy your stay and will go above and beyond to ensure that happens. Teddy, the caretaker is a very nice gentleman (and a terrific cook), the driver Richard, if you choose to use him is awesome, very accommodating. Sassa, who has a fruit and veggie stand on the property is great, always ready to offer a hand when needed. I think its important for first time visitors to Negril to understand that Negril is a very safe place if you keep aware of your surroundings. Not once did any of us feel unsafe while on the property and for added piece of mind, Kathryn employs a security guard who comes at 11pm and stays until morning. Not that we needed one, but it does demonstrate how Kathryn wants her guests to feel safe a secure. If you rent this property be sure to get out and meet the locals. They are all warm and friendly, non threatening and eager to please....for a buck or two, but its Jamaica.
great family vacation
The location of this villa is perfect-wonderful being up on the cliffs, and close to lots of eating options. Robin, the caretaker, is a fabulous hostess-and got us everything we wanted.
We highly recommend Castle Cove Villa!
What an amazing experience our family of thirteen had at Castle Cove! From the moment we arrived until we reluctantly departed, our stay was unforgettable. The house was perfect for our group, with enough bedrooms and bathrooms to make our stay very comfortable, and the breath-taking view from the grounds never got old. Our family thoroughly enjoyed snorkeling in the cove below the house, swimming and relaxing around the on-site pool, and eating on the spacious veranda overlooking the ocean. But aside from all the beauty of this place, it was the people who really made this vacation so memorable. Jackie kept the house spotless (not an easy job with thirteen people, seven of whom were teenagers!), and Nick provided the music that spurred many dance parties and sing-a-longs. Sassa kept us well-supplied with the freshest vegetables and fruits around, while Chef Teddy cooked us a fabulous meal on New Year’s Day. However, we could not have gotten through the week without Robin, whose guidance, advice, and friendship helped make this visit so special. Making suggestions on where to go and what to do (don’t miss Barney’s, the German Bar, Pablo’s for breakfast, and Just Natural!), helping us negotiate the local supermarket, driving us up into the mountains, arranging snorkeling trips in the glass bottom boat, making reservations for us at local restaurants, setting up a street party on New Year’s Eve, chauffeuring us around to wherever we wanted to go, making sure every aspect of our stay was comfortable, interesting, and fun—she did it all, and her help was invaluable! Her knowledge of the area and its people made our transition into Jamaican culture virtually seamless, and we will never forget her and all the other the people who so warmly welcomed us. We can’t wait to go back!
Thank you so very much for your gracious review. Your family was a pleasure to have at Castle Cove Villa. I will pass along your complements to Jackie, Nick Robin and Teddy. We look forward to having you back in the future!
Queen of Castle Cove Villa 👸🏻
Kathryn is an amazing host and we absolutely loved our Christmas break stay @ Castle Cove villa. Her passion for providing a great experience clearly shows and the onsite property manager 'Robin' was an absolute delight to work with.
Robin was there whenever we needed her while also giving us the necessary space for a family vacation. Icing on the cake was - Chef Teddy, the onsite chef that can be hired for an additional cost. I would strongly recommend utilizing Chef Teddy's services and you would not regret doing so. His food was delicious and pricing was very reasonable. We are vegetarian group and he made some AWESOME veggie dishes (Pumpkin soup was our favorite among favorites) and the kids absolutely adored him. They even wanted to take him back to the states with us :-).
Highly recommend Castle Cove and definitely go with Chef Teddy! Thanks Kathryn and Robin.
Great place for a great price.
Loved the entire trip. From Demar to Vincent and all in between, it was a great time.
Beautiful home, Perfect location
This property is beautiful and spacious and very clean. There was 14 of us and we really enjoyed our stay for the most part. We had a few issues I think could be settled with better communication with owner and her staff, and someone to give a orientation of the property. A information/orientation book for guest at the house would be great. Housekeepers should be optional to allow time to sleep in if you like or if you just prefer to do it yourself which is why we get a home on vacation. The tile stairs in the home and outside are various heights but same type so they are hard to see and slippery, some type of marking for safety would be great, please be careful we had a few tumbles. Also if you need to use a taxi I highly recommend using someone outside the property we found $10 a ride/ per person to Hi-Lo about a mile in half was WAY to EXPENSIVE (that would have been $140, look for Dale or Lisa they were very reasonable and very safe, and legal taxi drivers. Please be mindful that the sidewalks to the pool are VERY slippery and there is no gate to the stairs leading down to the cove if you have children or too much to drink. I would recommend staying here as long as you have clear communications especially around the laundry, housekeeping and security (they like to sit on the porch uninvited) and mindful of the stairs. You could not ask for a more beautiful and peaceful place. Owner seem to get irritated with us related to a laundry issue, staff wanted to charge $10 for a cup of laundry detergent but there was nothing about that in the contract only to find out staff was incorrect in charging us for laundry we were doing ourselves. Even though we had a few bumps in the road it doesn't take away from the beauty of this property and the overall good time we had here. I believe they are striving to have a really great place and you can tell.
Ricks cafe is 5 mins away. 7 mile beach is 5 minutes away.
