Honestly.....we really liked it. It was an enjoyable mix of antique, old fashioned and new. It's a 'lived in' rental, so you feel as if you are house sitting but without the clutter. It was well stocked - popcorn and everything from strainers to ice cream scoops were readily available. Maybe I misread one of the ads - I was expecting a piano and no WIFI or cable....We couldn't find a piano, but did find a Netgear router and the kids immediately figured out how to get NetFlix working on the flat screen, so they were happy. The kitchen is new, the upper story has some rustic painted pine floors beside a very comfortable and carpeted entertainment room. Surprisingly spacious (about 2700 sq ft?) and nicely decorated. Found a picture book of the home restoration on the bottom rack of the antique Tea trolley in the downstairs living room, hovering above the 'special tea' collection. The in-house video and book collections made me want to quit my day job and hang out for the summer. The kids are wanting to make it a yearly tradition. I've already asked a biking friend if he is interested in doing Strawberry Mountain trails this summer, so yes I'd recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thanks Kevin, glad you and your family enjoyed it. I recently updated the info regarding wifi and deleted the piano...sometime between your inquiry & stay.

Picky traveler in love!

  • 5 of 5

I travel around the state for work and have stayed in a vast variety of hotels and vacation rentals. So I have become a little picky about where I stay. This has to be my number one favorite out of anywhere I have stayed! The whole house is gorgeous, tastefully decorated with beautiful antiques and vin

What a nice place!

  • 5 of 5

Prairie City was planned as just being a stop over on a long ride from Hells Canyon to Crater Lake.

However the house was a highlight on our tour. Very nice and cosy. Our family especially the 12 year old twin girls absolutely liked being there.

Lovely and Cozy

  • 5 of 5

This family sized cottage served my family well. All the rooms are beautifully decorated and pleasant to be in. The kitchen was were we all hung out the most during meals and it is stocked with everything a person would need. We made Huckleberry scones the morning after picking berries and did not have to go to the store to get one thing. What a delightful stay. We recommend it to anyone with a large family who all want to be together for a reunion, holiday or spreading ashes of a loved one as we did. Sweet little town of Prairie City was very accommodating for all of us and we really enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful, charming home....

  • 5 of 5

I did not know what to expect before coming to this beautiful home. The pictures did not do it justice. In fact, I took pictures of every room, just to remember how lovely it was. The detail in every room was wonderful to look at! The kitchen had labeled drawers, which made finding everything we needed quick and easy. Our only regret was that we were barely in the home, as we were attending many family reunion functions this weekend. We would have loved to have spent more time, enjoying it's warmth and charm. Seriously, we loved the place.

There are many great museums in Grant County covering the gold mining history as well as the ranching history of this area. Plenty of opportunity for outdoor activity... only 13 miles from Strawberry Wilderness Trailheads. A day trip could take you to the John Day fossil beds heading west, or heading east you will find The Sumpter Valley Railroad or further on Oregon Trail Interpretive Center.
