Overview

About the property

Lake Front, 6 Br, 4 1/2 Ba, Sleeps 14-17.

Wonderful large lake home for family and company gatherings! Unique and quaint in so many ways! The house sits on 18 wooded acres on Lake Hickory and Drowning Creek (really? Who named that creek?) for a quiet, rural setting. The house sits on a hill with a short, but steep, walk to the lake (or take the little road down for an easier walk). The lake is hard to see from the house in the summer because of all the trees.

The house features 2 Master Bedrooms (1K/1BA, 1Q/1BA) for maximum privacy that are attached to the home with a covered walkway. The main house has 2 bedrooms (1Q&2T/BA and 1Q&1T/BA), a bunk room (2 built-in bunk beds), and a 3rd floor tower (2T BUT accessible only by a ladder). We also have 3 outdoor showers.

The fun never ends with a enormous separate garage that features basketball, foosball, pool, ping pong, darts and other games. There is a bocce court and horseshoes close to the main house. There is also an outdoor fire pit in front of the house and another one by the lake.

A railroad track runs at the bottom of the hill next to the lake. The train runs a few times a week (during the day) and we love to wave to the engineer for a horn whistle. The track really gives the property a cool vibe!

This is a one of a kind great place to relax and enjoy family and friends!!! A true retreat!!!

About Claire Tuttle

Our families are best of friends...FRamily. We have enjoyed sharing this home and creating great memories. Hope you will too!

Claire Tuttle purchased this house in 2012

Why Claire Tuttle chose Hickory

We wanted a place to gather that was stress free and gave us a great platform to just be together. There is a ton to do....or just chill in a hammock. All good.

What makes this house unique

The home is unique in many ways. The third floor tower with twin beds in only accessible by a ladder built with metal pipes (it is a great view when you get up there). The bunk beds are also built into the wall. There is a big glass garage door that opens to the screen porch to make the entire downstairs feel like the porch. The outdoor showers are terrific...if it isn't freezing outside!

The property sits on a hill next to the lake. There is a train track that runs below (but it only runs a few times a week and during the day so it will not wake you at night. We look forward to the train coming through on the rare occasion and wave to 'Mickey' the conductor!).

With both the lake and creek next to the property, many water options are available.

A beautiful property with fantastic areas to sleep, eat and relax.

After having an emergency with another property Claire and her family helped us obtain the home for my wedding weekend. Our entire group was made up mostly of out of towners and I think we left them with a love of the foothill area thanks to the beautiful property.

@ Lake Hickory was amazing. We enjoyed the short stroll through the woods to the lake

  • 5 of 5

Upon arrival when we first say the facility from the out side we were impressed, then we went inside. What a beautiful set up for a family get together or reunion.

Large Common Area

The large common room that included Kitchen, Large Bar where people could sit and socialize with the cooks, huge table in the dinning area, living room with TV & Bluetooth capable sound system, and the garage door with windows that open up the the screened in porch was epic and enjoyed by all.

Bedrooms

The two detached master bed room are were amazingly quiet even in the evening when other activities were going on. Perfect for multiple families or those who are not quit the night owl and want to call it a early night.

Three bedrooms on the second floor above the common area are amazing as well. With 4 bunk bends TV with Sateilate and gaming system is great for the teens. Two bedroom that that flank the the room with the TV and all three have access to separate bathrooms.

Then there are the two loft bedrooms. One is the third floor above the Commons Area and the second in one of the detached Master Bedrooms. Both are access able by a ladder. I climbed both and found the area quaint. Admittedly I would not want to climb every night but my 16 year old daughter loved them and said this would be awesome for kids and teenagers.

Garage (Game Room and Basketball Court)

WOW, Many games were played on the Foosball Table, Billiards Table and Ping Pong Table. The drum set and guitars were a nice touch and well used. The basketball court was very impressive. My daughter a Junior in HS who has received a letter from UNC was impressed with he BB Court.

Outdoors

Horseshoes, Bocce, Dock, and Waterfront again beautiful and all well used. The short walk to both the dock and waterfront, although a little bit of a incline, was enjoyed.

This venue will take place of a beach trip in the future. Close by but yet seems like you out in the middle of now where. Yet just a couple of miles from Restaurants, Baseball, Grocery Store. Also a short drive to Asheville, Boone, Blue Ridge Parkway, Lake James, Linville Gorge Area

All-in-All a wonderful facility and great venue. Whoever put it together "Well Played!"

Just an amazing place.

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic visit and a great time at this gorgeous house. Rooms for everyone in our large party, a huge common area and kitchen for hanging out and plenty of privacy for when you need a quiet moment. The game room is incredible. There is just so much to do. The owners were very accommodating and communicative, and their instructions were clear and helpful. Everything about the visit went smoothly, and I highly recommend staying here.

Beautiful property with all the amenities

  • 5 of 5

We had a group of 17 extended family of all different ages, and the house worked great for us! Plenty of room, more games than we could have imagined, and beautifully but not pretentiously decorated. It was amazing, and we wished we had planned for a longer stay! Our only negative was the walk down to the lake, as we had some older family members that had some difficulty given the steep and uneven terrain, and we were worried about the youngest kids falling near the drop off. However, the owners clearly state this issue in the description, and it wouldn't deter us from staying again.

Car: necessary

Our home is located near Hickory, NC. We are about an hour away from the mountains of NC - both Asheville and Blowing Rock for great hikes, shopping, and other attractions. We are a little over an hour from the Charlotte Airport. A car is necessary as this is a rural setting.

There are mountain bike trails 10 minutes from the home. There is a marina to rent pontoon boats or bring your own and keep at the dock.

Hickory has several wonderful restaurants. They also have a nice science center and art museum.
