The cottage is a comfortable three bedroom two bath layout with a queen pull out sofa in the living room. The house has wood floors throughout a functioning fireplace and 50inch flat screen for movies or the big game. Very well kept and clean older home with beautiful view.

That being said there were several issues with this rental. I had to reach out to the owner two days before our trip because I had not heard from him with final instructions for the rental. He did respond that someone would be contacting me... 24 hours passed and nothing. I emailed again and within a few minutes I finally got a call from the caretaker Michelle with the address and told that the house would be open.

Once we arrived we realized the 50 in. flat screen mentioned in his listing could only play videos and games...no cable tv.

Thanksgiving Day and no football!

It does have two nice coffee makers... but no toaster. Big thanks to Michelle for a loaner. Two of the bedrooms did not have blinds or curtains so we got creative and made window coverings out of paper towels. The handle on the kitchen faucet is worn out and came off in our hands. Lastly, we were woke up most mornings by scratching in the ceiling by what we assumed to be squirrels.

The beds were comfy and plenty of linens in the bathrooms. This could be a very nice rental with better customer service from Tom and a little more attention to details. Came away with mixed feelings about this rental home.

Great place, but a stressful experience

  • 2 of 5

The property as a whole is incredible. We were pleased with everything including the great dock. However, unfortunately I don't think I would stay here again. I initially booked this reservation about 3 months ahead of time. At that time I spoke with the owner who was awesome, we discussed several items and he explained everything in great detail which was perfect. Once it was booked I got all the usual emails from VRBO, no complaints. About 3 weeks before our stay I reached out to the owner again via email to confirm the address, get information on where to get the keys, etc. He emailed me back very promptly and said he would contact me the next week as he was out of town. The next week came and went with no follow-up, I emailed a few more times then called his office (the number on here). I spoke to several people there that either had no knowledge of the property or said that they would ask him to call me. Long story short, I never received any communication from the owner (still haven't). Fortunately the day before I was supposed to stay there, a helpful person at his office was able to track down the person with the key that takes care of the house. As you can imagine, with friends and family all depending upon us having this house, it was really frustrating and stressful, which isn't something I look for on vacation. I don't think that he was ignoring my calls and emails or trying to scam me on purpose as he seemed like a great guy on the phone but I'm really at a loss; hopefully everything is ok on his end. Again, thanks to the person at his office for making the extra effort and making our weekend a success. I just wish it had been a little less stressful in the time leading up to it.

Owner's Response: Dear Guest, I have received your review and I am glad you over all enjoyed the property and we also think the dock is awesome. Unfortunately, I must take ownership for the lack of direct communication. I do appreciate your interest in our property and your rental dollars help me continue to maintain the property as a vacation home for my family. I thought my property manager at the lake had established contact with you and we were in better shape than it turned out. At the time of your stay my family and I were also on vacation and we were on a five day rafting trip in the bottom of the Grand Canyon with no cell phones or contact with home . I guess I didn't deliver the peace of mind you were looking for on the front end of your trip and I understand your frustration, please accept my apology. Tom

Excellent

House is easy to find and everything was ready for us when we arrived. Very clean and comfortable, exactly as advertised. Just note that there is no wifi/cable, so if you have kids or adults in your party that need those things, make sure you have a hotspot available. Verizon service is decent in most parts of the house.

Great Last minute Birthday Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Plans that I had made for my husbands 50th birthday fell through, so I decided to arrange a last minute weekend trip to the lake for myself, my husband & our 2 son's, age 8 & 9. The home was easy to find & we were promptly met to be let in & shown around by a friendly neighbor who is helping the owner with the place. It is nicely furnished & was very clean, plenty of space for the 4 of us, really more than we needed. We spent our 1st afternoon/evening swimming & fishing of the dock - my kids LOVED jumping off the 2nd story dock. Our second day, my husband left early to pick up our rental boat, just a few miles away by land at harbor light marina & returned by water, about a mile back to the house, to pick up the boys & I. We had a wonderful day on the lake & found we mostly stayed in the cove in which the property is located - pretty quiet cove where my inexperienced tubing kids had plenty of space to learn without a lot of boat traffic. It was super convenient to be able to dock our boat there to take a break, eat lunch, etc. After returning our rental for the day, we fished & swam some more off the dock, Even I, being afraid of heights, could not resist jumping off the 2nd story with the kids. Again, the next morning, we fished & swam before packing up to head out. My 9 year old caught 2 big bass off the boat ramp (oh, yeah - if you have your own boat - this place has a private ramp!), but unfortunately, they both got off as he was reeling them in. There are definitely LOTS of fish to catch & the water is clear enough that you can see them! We ate all meals at the house & the only down side was we couldn't get the grill working, but that was fine, the stove did fine. It was a great fun family weekend & we hope to come back soon! I'll finish my review with my 8 year old's opinion, comparing this to our annual vacation spot, Tybee Island, "This place RULES, this place is like Tybee's boss!"
