Recently Completed Five Bedroom House on 900+ Acres of Laurel Ridge Plantation
The Orchard House is a 5 bedroom, 3 bath house with 3 levels located on the 900+ acres of Laurel Ridge Plantation and Retreat in the foothills of the Appalachians in Cleburne County, Alabama. Surrounded by forest, fields, ponds and 25+ miles of hiking and horseback riding trails The Orchard House provides a comfortable base for your outdoor adventures at the retreat and in the surrounding area.
It is named the Orchard House because it sits adjacent to the remnant of an old Pecan Tree orchard and we are developing the area around the house with additional orchards and a vineyard. The house was completed in 2013 and has a wrap around porch on two sides of the main level with rocking chairs and ceiling fans, a grilling area and screen porch for out door dining or relaxation. The main floor features a full kitchen with stove, oven, refrigerator with ice maker, microwave and dishwasher a large bar for eating and a butler's pantry. There is a large living and dining area on the main level featuring a large fireplace and French doors that open onto the main porch and the screen porch. The main floor also features the John's Mountain Bedroom with attached full bath bath and French doors that open out onto the main porch overlooking the pond. The Talladega and General Cleburne bedrooms are on the upper level and share a large bath with over sized shower and double vanities. The General Cleburne Bedroom features a fireplace and opens onto the upper level porch with relaxing chairs and a large umbrella shade. The lower level features a large den area with 60 inch TV as well as the Lucky Joe Gold Mine Bedroom and the See Me No More Valley Bedroom which share a full bath. The lower level opens onto a patio outfitted with relaxing rockers and a beautiful view of the pasture and pond and Georgia's Black Jack Mountain in the distance. The house has central heat and air, a freestanding propane heater on the lower level and wifi throughout the house free of additional charges.

About John Durham
Carla and I (John) have been married for 33 years and retired to our property, Laurel Ridge Plantation of which the Orchard House is a part, in 2009 and expanded the farming operations. We are both originally from Georgia, Carla from Atlanta and John from South west Georgia (Cordele and then Albany) and we met during my medical internship at Emory where Carla was a nurse. We have two children. Ashley graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Computer Science and earned her Phd in Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt. She currently works for McKinsey consulting in their London and Johannesburg offices. Our son, John Jr. recently graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in Industrial Engineering and currently works in Atlanta, Georgia..
John Durham purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2011
Why John Durham chose Ranburne
We originally did not have plans to build or list the Orchard House for lease, but all of our friends that visited the farm just did not want to leave. They encouraged us to add the Orchard House so that we could share this beautiful secluded rural mountain area more readily with others.

Beautiful home and surroundings!
We rented this home while we were in the area for the Talladega Nascar race. There was plenty of room for our group of 9 adults. The house was very clean with comfortable beds and nice plush towels. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the beautiful porch and the grill and screened in dining area in the evening. Our GPS had a little trouble finding it at first and the owner came right out to meet us and escort us in! From that point we had no further problem finding our way in and out. The location was perfect and just as the owner quoted on travel time. Would definately rent again if we return to the area.
Escape the craziness of life and come to the peace and quiet of a beautiful family farm. The house is spacious (we had 3 families with 7 kids and 6 adults) with plenty of room for everyone. The kids had a blast running the hills and fishing in the 2 ponds on the property. The owners were delightful and went out of their way to make our vacation memorable. We toured the farm by hayride and got to see all the animals and some hidden treasures of the area. We ended our vacation with a bonfire at the manor house. Sunrises, sunsets, beautiful fall colors, and time away. Thanks for sharing your farm with our family.
