We love the outdoors and all things that nature provides: sea kayaking, hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing and photography. Our extremely private home in British Columbia offers all of this, plus so much more.
Nancy purchased this House in 2013
Why Nancy chose Port McNeill
We love our property because of its location. Our home is located on 3.5 ocean front acres with amazing views all the way to the mainland. We have a bald eagle nest on our property. We see them flying back and forth from their nest to the waterfront often. This area is home of the Orca, or Killer Whale, and is a research hub for them. We have deer, bear, elk, and cougars walking through our property while they are enroute to the beach. We catch our own dungeness crab in the bay just in our very own backyard!! Port McNeill is a small, but quaint town with a population of about 2,500 residents. There are a couple of grocery stores, a bank, an outdoor supply store etc. We are approx. 15 minutes to world famous Telegraph Cove. We are located in the middle of the forest on the beach. It is nature at it's finest. Close enough to town, but far enough to feel private and cozy, It is also clean, modern, upscale, and nicely decorated in the "West Coast~BC" style. It is also large enough to accommodate a large family, or several families traveling together. :)
What makes this House unique
Our unique benefits are the views, the views, the views and location, location, location!!! It's sort of like a Japanese post card where there is so much going on when looking out through the window. Because we are on the waterfront there is a ever constant change going on outside..... whether it be a deer and her fawn feeding in grass in front of the picture window, a bear on the beach, an eagle soaring over head, a fishing boat or ferry passing by, otters swimming past the house, Blue Herons fishing on the beach, catching Dungeness Crabs on the beach at low tide, the fog rolling in, the fog horns sounding, the tide changing, the sun setting, etc. etc.! I could go on forever! It's heaven on earth. Perfect place to relax and unwind. :) Check in time 4pm (unless previous arrangements have been made) Check out time 11am (unless previous arrangements have been made)

Perfect Home for a family vacation!
Look no further, The Whale House is it! Thank you Nancy, for sharing this gorgeous spot and your lovely home. We will never forget it. The house is very well equipped for cooking and serving meals. It was so lovely to have spices and some pantry items waiting for us. Meals at the dining room table, with the perfect view, were just wonderful. Bedrooms were clean, airy and comfortable. Again, we loved the view from our bedroom and awoke to the sounds of eagles chattering. The property itself is stunning. We loved sitting on the deck, watching for the resident kingfisher. It was so much fun to have all of the crabbing gear. This was our favorite pastime!
Whale watching with the MacKay family is a must do! Book ahead. We learned so much from Nicole and her dad. This was a true treat! A visit to Alert Bay was another highlight. We asked about fresh fish in the local market and they were able to hook us up with fresh Sockeye. Yum!! We also enjoyed the Blinkhorn Trail at Telegraph Cove.
If we only had another week. There is so much to see and explore here. The Whale House was the perfect home base. We looked forward to returning here each afternoon after a day’s adventure.
We were a family group ranging in ages from 10-79. There is something for everyone here. Thank you again. We absolutely loved everything about this home.
Thanks for your kind review. I'm so happy that you enjoyed your stay in my home. It is truly wonderful and peaceful to sit on the deck and enjoying the ever changing scenery and frequent wildlife sightings. I'm happy to recommend you to other homeowners, and would love for you to return to The Whale House at any time. :)
The perfect spot for enjoying north Vancouver Island
Lovely weather front property with commanding views and visiting wildlife. The house is lovely and well maintained by a very helpful owner. Be sure to visit the nearby First Nation town of Alert Bay (easily accessible by ferry).
Happy to have you stay in my home. You were the perfect guests. :)
If you love to get away from it all with breathtaking views, this is the place. I went crabbing every day and saw more wildlife than anywhere I've ever been. Just a great place to recharge your soul.
I'm so happy that you enjoyed your birthday getaway :)!! Thank you so much for the kind review. I feel like your words describe my home PERFECTLY!!!! It truly is a small slice of heaven. I'd love to have you back anytime, and would highly recommend you to another homeowner as well. Thanks again and safe travels.
Luxury Wilderness Experience
Great, comfy house. Gorgeous waterfront location, slightly out of the working-class village of Port McNeill. Can sleep eight, but four get to sleep in a slightly dark basement. The master bedroom is fantastic. The large windows that look out to Haddington Island are wonderful. Kitchen could use more dishes. Only four mugs and three wine glasses. So many bears up close and personal ... We saw two mothers with two and three cubs, and two adults walking on the beach, crossing the yard and climbing the trees - and that was only on one days. There were dozens of sightings during our 8-day stay, plus many, many deer and eagles. Overall great stay. Amazing launch pad for incredible adventures.
Thank you for your review and I'm happy that you were able to appreciate the wonderful wilderness where my home is located. I'm sorry to hear about the shortage of wine glasses and mugs. I'm on my way up there this weekend and will have a look and see what is missing and replace what is needed. Hope to have you back as a guest sometime in the future. :)
A dream location
A wonderful holiday home in an amazing location. The views were breathtaking; the accommodation was superb; the location was perfect. Not to be missed!
Thank you for your stay. Hope to have you back again soon :)
Very nice. Worth the drive to get there. Wonderful house and hot tub! Very relaxing.
We were 2 mom's with our 2 college age daughters (girls trip!). We really enjoyed the house and hot tub. We took the ferry from Vancouver to Nanaimo. It was about a 4 hour drive from there and well worth it. There is no internet service at the house. Couldn't get tv upstairs to work. It was no bother as we relaxed, enjoyed the view and obsessed over doing a puzzle. We took the whale watching tour with Mackay. They are top notch. A "must do" when you are there. We decided not to kayak at Telegraph Cove since the whales weren't there yet. There is a fantastic restraunt at Telegraph Cove and interesting history walk if you go though. We also drove to Port Hardy to check it out. We would love to go back and take our own kayaks next time. We'd also like to try crabbing. We didn't see the resident bear, but we did see the resident eagles! All in all, it was a wonderful trip!
Happy to hear that you had a great time. One of the great things about the wildlife is that it is very unpredictable. I'm sure that the bears were around, but just at times when you didn't happen to notice them. The TV downstairs in the game room has access to satellite TV shows. The TV in the master is supposed to as well, but the cable box broke and a new one is being replaced. Going out with the Mackays is a MUST. Like all wildlife, viewing the orca whales is also unpredictable. However, if anyone can find them then it is Bill Mackay. He has the fastest boat on the water and only runs one tour a day so he'll take you as far as possible in an effort to locate them. Best chances are with the Mackays vs. Telegraph cove tours. However, the kayaking tours out of Telegraph Cove are very fun and informative.
Hope to have you back again soon and I'm glad that you enjoyed your stay with your daughters. The hot tub on the deck is the best :) !!!
3.5 acre private waterfront home where deer and bears roam, bald eagles soar overhead, and orcas, dolphins, and whales pass by. Enjoy crabbing, salmon fishing, hiking, kayaking, peace and serenity in the comfort of a very private, newer custom home with high end designer furnishings. Close to Ribson Bight ecological reserve for orca whales....humpback whales, sea lions, otters etc...(nature wonderland). Also close to Telegraph Cove! House is non smoking and no pets are allowed...sorry :(
Additional information about rental rates
Hello, We have a 60 day cancellation policy. Due to the remoteness of this property if you cancelled on us at the last minute then we'd not have an opportunity to re rent the home. Most people coming up here are coming from a long ways away and will make their accommodations well in advance...Hence the need for the 60 day cancellation policy. Thank you for understanding.
