Very contemporary architectural house, well thought through in good location. Generous rooms and lovely bathroom. Only small thing was the heated concrete floor takes a couple of days to really heat the house so it was very cold to start. Other small thing was 2 windows have loose locks so don’t close properly making it cold upstairs. Otherwise a lovely place to stay and the host is very caring and attentive.

Iona was a welcoming and very helpful host! She met us when we arrived to get us acquainted with the space and was so warm and friendly. They even went through the trouble to repair and set up a cool antique cot for our baby, and had a special boat bed that our three-year-old son loved! We had everything we needed to get good rest during our busy stay in Sydney, and loved being walking distance from the Balmain ferry and restaurants.

Karla and her family were an absolute delight to host. I am so happy that their gorgeous baby was secure and comfortable in the cot. And even though their little boy had the choice of the Queens size bed he very happily chose the little "converted" sailing boat-bed as his bed instead. I just want to say thankyou to Karla and her family for being such wonderful guests and they are absolutely welcome back any time! kindest regards, iona

We felt right at home in this charming, artsy, well-stocked cottage. We found it roomy, clean, comfortable and conveniently located. Our lovely and attentive host, Iona, met us for a walk-through and gave us details about the walkable, quiet neighborhood. We enjoyed drinking coffee in the intimate tropical backyard garden while listening to the wild lorikeets and laughing kookaburras. The two large upstairs bedrooms featured comfortable beds and pillows. The master had a portable air conditioner that kept the room cool, while the second room had great airflow. The large upstairs bath included a shower and a separate bathtub, as well as a full-length mirror, plenty of towels and toiletries. We wish we had more time to explore her cozy downstairs library, which included many interesting titles. We appreciated all the kitchen amenities, such as the Nespresso maker, cooking pans, gas stove, full-fridge and condiments - perfect for morning coffee and heating leftovers. We walked to church and several local restaurants where we were treated like regulars. Our favorites were Charlotte's Cafe, GiGis and Crickets sports bar. The bay was literally at the end of her street - a mere five or six houses down - providing views of amazing sunsets and sunrises. We also walked to the wharf and nearby parks, where we watched the spectacular 9 pm and midnight New Year fireworks! We thoroughly loved our one-week stay in Sydney, in large part, to Iona's home away from home.

Such a fantastic home

Loved it!! This house was better than I could have imagined. We really enjoyed our time. The location is incredible and easy access to transport, cafes, shops and restaurants. Everything you need is in the home. This is an eco house and the airflow through the home is incredible. The beds are so comfortable and I just felt happy being there. Iona was a pleasure to deal with and was super helpful with any questions we had. Will stay here again at the next opportunity we get.

About the host

Hosted by Iona Williams

Host profile image
Iona is a passionate believer in sustainable design.

Every detail of the home has been meticulously designed and constructed for maximum livability and minimum environmental impact while permeated with a 'boating' aesthetic inspired by its location.

Why they chose this property

It's an urban oasis! I know sounds like a cliché!
It is so quiet and peaceful due to being located on a peninsula surrounded by the beautiful waters of Sydney Harbour so there is no through traffic.
While there are also so many magnificent trees and tall palms that attract a multitude of beautiful birds so the only sounds are birdsong or the occasional sound of diesel boat chugging past on the harbour below or when its really windy there is also the sound of the yachts' sails when they tack past.

What makes this property unique

The proximity to the City via Sydney Harbour ferries or the local bus, and the easy walking to the famous local "Balmain village". The village contains a wonderful array of interesting be-spoke shops (including fashion and lifestyle, bakeries etc.) as well as top quality Restaurants and an array of fantastic cafés.
And not least the easy walking distance to many of the famous old Balmain corner pubs with their excellent menu choices as well as live music most weekend nights or trivia nights during the week.

Additionally there is a multitude of beautiful harbourside parks to relax and perhaps picnic while watching the yachts sailing past.
(Picnic blankets provided)

All of which makes this an excellent base from which to make the most of your stay in Sydney.
