See what wonders await you at The Prancing Pony! Named for a Lord of the Rings reference, this magical home exudes all that you want in a Mendocino vacation rental, from the 20 acres of secluded forest property to the raised deck. It's no fantasy. It's a Northern California Coast getaway!
While this home is quiet and private, it's still only three miles away from the village of Mendocino. There, you can share a pint at Patterson's Pub, grab a fresh deli sandwich, and then head out to Mendocino Headlands State Park for a hike down to Big River Beach.
If you have a larger group, consider renting Bag End along with this house. This other Lord of the Rings-inspired home is just as remote while still being close to the village, and it offers the added bonus of a car charging area between both homes on the property. The property includes a standard NEMA 14-50 exterior mounted 240 volt outlet for use with electric car chargers. Make sure to bring your charging cable or portable charging unit.
The colorful, wooded cottage itself has room for four max and is made to be a true getaway. Unplug completely—there's no TV or WiFi. Savor local wines and cheeses on the sprawling, furnished deck. Meditate among the lush trees and ferns. Take a cat nap as you warm up by the pellet stove. Relaxation is the word around here.
On the main floor is a cozy master bedroom containing a queen-size bed and a bathroom with walk-in shower. This room has access to the upstairs loft, which has a spacious futon. There's even a private washer and dryer in this home.
Fix up breakfast or elevensies in the fully stocked kitchen. If you're a coffee buff, bring your favorite roast to grind fresh right here with the provided grinder and French press.
In addition to the soothing sights and sounds of the nearby ocean, there are many little towns along Highway 1 that are worth stopping through before or after your stay. If you're going back to the San Francisco Bay area, stop at the funky town of Bodega Bay. Gualala, Elk, and Albion and all between Mendocino and Bodega and each offer a different flavor. To the north is Fort Bragg, Mendocino County's biggest town and a hub for shopping dining, and a laid-back vibe.
Whether you're a fantasy fan or a tired professional needing a break, The Prancing Pony should be on your agenda!
