I care deeply about nature and sustainability is part of how I live and host. Bird Hill Cottage is my family’s holiday home—a place we love returning to. Most of our visits are spent tending the garden, watching birds, and simply being present in the landscape.

My hope is that guests experience Bird Hill as more than just a place to sleep. It’s a quiet, nature-filled retreat where you can slow down, reconnect and feel held by the land.

Bird Hill is nestled in Woori Yallock, a relatively unknown town which is within one of Victoria’s most enchanting regions. Bird Hill is in a peaceful pocket of the Yarra Valley and offers both seclusion and easy access to the wider valley and Dandenong Ranges. The cottage itself is sunlit and soulful, with natural light pouring through every window and thoughtful touches throughout. It’s a place where nature isn’t just nearby—it’s an intrinsic part of Bird Hill.

Whether you're sipping tea on the sunny front patio in winter or enjoying a breezy summer meal on the private back deck, you’ll be surrounded by garden views, bushland, and the joyful presence of native birds. Parrots, wrens, and robins visit throughout the year, and local wildlife often wanders through the grounds—adding to the sense of quiet wonder.

Originally built as a holiday home, Bird Hill still holds that intention at its heart. It’s a space for rest, reflection, and reconnection. Just a short drive from Melbourne, yet worlds away in atmosphere, it’s ideal for a weekend recharge or a longer retreat. The longer you stay, the deeper the peace settles in.

Bird Hill Cottage offers the charm of country living without the long drive from Melbourne. It’s private, peaceful, and full of character—a truly homely retreat ideal for a short break or a longer holiday.

Nature lovers will be delighted by the abundance of local birdlife. Keep an eye out for the superb fairy wren with his brilliant blue feathers, bower birds feeding on magnolia seeds, cheeky lorikeets, the Eastern Yellow Robin, red-browed finches, and sometimes even owls calling at night.

Wildlife is part of the experience too—spot the resident wombat ambling through the garden, or listen for frogs and toads stirring in the evenings. The property is also a haven for growing plants, with an established veggie patch and kitchen herb garden offering seasonal produce for guests to enjoy while at the cottage.

Despite its tranquil setting, Bird Hill is conveniently located. It’s an excellent base for exploring the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges, while remaining around one hour by car from Melbourne CBD. The Woori Yallock village has a variety of shops and services, including a popular bakery, a small supermarket, a pharmacy, a beauty parlour, a pizza cafe and a well-stocked drive-through bottle shop, all within walking distance.

🚴 For outdoor enthusiasts, Woori Yallock Station marks the halfway point of the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail—just 1.4km away, with parking available behind the shops.

🚌 Buses run from early morning until late, connecting you to Lilydale, Warburton, and beyond.
