We are Lyle and Shelly Wattles. We live near the camp and purchased the property to enjoy ourselves as well as rent to vacationers who love the area as much as we do. Shelly owns a real estate company in Galeton, Pine Creek Real Estate. Lyle is a self employed electrician. We love all of the outdoor activities that the Pine Creek Valley has to offer. We hope to make your stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.

Why Lyle and Shelly Wattles chose Gaines
With almost one half an acre, you can enjoy the mountain views and relaxing atmosphere in side or out all year long. The full ring fire pit is available for a summertime campfire. Only a few minutes to fine dining and kayak/canoe rentals. Although we are not right on Pine Creek, it's views are right across the road.
What makes this Cabin unique
Enjoy the peace and quiet that Sweet Spot has to offer. Take an early morning stroll on Lick Run Road right along Pine Creek. Lick Run Road is open to ATV's. There are maps at the cabin which show the trails where you can start right at the cabin and ride. We offer a cozy country cabin with wood floors and knotty pine open ceiling. The cabin is fully stocked with all of the cookware and utensils that you will need for a few night's stay.
Perfect spot for a couple to spend the days exploring the area.
The cottage was spotless and kitchen was well stocked.
Very clean and well appointed.
Even better than the pictures. Very cute little house. Perfect for our anniversary get away. I liked having the area all to ourselves. No noisy hotel neighbors to deal with.
Sweet Spot is Spot On
This cozy and clean, well appointed and maintained, welcoming home is close to the Pine Creek Rail Trail, Colton Point, Lenard Harrison, and Cherry Springs State Parks, Pine Creek Natural Area, Wellsboro, and miles and miles of beautiful state forest lands.
The cabin itself is located not far off state route 6 along a small forested lane shared by other homes in the area that runs along Pine Creek. There is plenty of privacy without feeling isolated! You can hear the creek while relaxing on the front deck under hemlocks and oaks. Aside from providing a safe comfortable haven with a soft bed, hot shower, and easy to use kitchen following forays out into the wilderness, the cabin has a nice yard with a fire ring along with a stocked woodshed and a large detached garage big enough to store all of your toys (bikes, kayaks, ATVs, etc) while not in use. The owners have also thoughtfully provided pamphlets, maps, and books to help guests learn about the area's attractions.
I was sorry I only had a few days to explore the area. My favorite adventures were biking the Rail Trail from Ansonia to Blackwell and back and hiking the West Rim Trail in Colton Point State Park. Gorgeous! Also, the lane right outside the cabin runs into State Game Lands and Tioga State Forest making for some invigorating and scenic rides!
Cozy cabin, perfect for couples looking for a rural getaway
We had a great time at this cozy cabin in Gaines, PA. It's a small cabin, but it's well-maintained and the owners are extremely organized. They are clearly professionals at these short-term rentals, which is comforting to know that you're going to be traveling to a home that is clean and stocked with nice essentials. The cabin features a small bedroom (with an extremely comfortable queen bed) and a nice open living space and adjoining kitchen. The bathroom is small, bordering on a little cramped if you're tall (over 6' 4''). Because of the size of the cabin, this is the perfect place for couples, but probably not too many more people than that, or it'd get pretty crowded. The location, though rural, is not secluded as there are other cabins in close proximity, though they were all unoccupied during our stay and the yard where the fire pit is does feel like your own space. If you're staying here, plan ahead. The nearest town, Wellsboro, is about 20 minutes away, so bring any food or drinks with you because there's not too much in terms of restaurants or shopping close to the cabin. It's a great starting point for trips to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon or for stargazing at Cherry Springs State Park.
Great place to relax and unwind.
Great for a couple like is to get away and relax. Plenty of things to do all year long.
The house was quite comfortable and supplied everything you would need. Definitely will return.
Second year in a row. A great place to stay.
Outdoor recreation can be enjoyed right outside the cabin door. The roads along the drive to the cabin are open to ATV's. Fishing is very popular on Pine Creek with the season starting in April. When the creek is up to a 2.5 level many kayaks, rafts, and canoes will be traveling Pine Creek right past the cabin. There are two rental facilities within a five mile distance that carry kayaks, canoes, and bicycles along with all the accessories. The summer gives way to the Pine Creek Rail Trail which runs 62 miles and is a 7 mile drive from the cabin. Hiking and Bicycling are very popular on the trail during the spring, summer, and fall months. The fall foliage throughout the entire area has a spectacular effect on its viewers during the months of September and October. The Pennsylvania Grand Canyon can be seen from the west brim and is a 11.5 mile drive. The dark skies of Cherry Springs brings many area astronomers. Lyman Run State Park's lake is nestled within the Pennsylvania mountains. Many fisherman and kayakers enjoy the lake during the summer months. There is also a beach for swimming there.
Galeton is located ten miles away and has many unique shops right along Main Street (Route 6). Wellsboro is the county seat of Tioga County and is 15.3 miles from the cabin. There are many events throughout the year held there including Dickens of a Christmas in December and the famous Laurel Festival in June.
