"The Old Homestead" An Original Homestead Cabin

Bedrooms 2
Space 800 sq ft
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

"The Old Homestead" Actually Is An Original Homestead, Built 1943.

It is situated on 22 acres, on a quiet country road, away from highways. We have satellite TV, Internet and AT&T cell phone access. There is a convenient, clean propane stove, and a fully equipped kitchen. We can set up a ping pong table for you, and you can make a cozy fire in the outdoor fire pit. Watch deer, turkeys, elk and moose, and occasionally the neighbor's hound dog right from the front porch.

Enjoy watching our horses roam around behind it, or bring your own. Just remember, our pasture is not a golf course, so we cannot be responsible for any injuries to your horse.

You will be just minutes away from world class boating, fishing, snowmobiling, or hiking or riding endless mountain trails. Or cross country ski right out the back door. The closest ski lift is 1 1/2 hours away in Sandpoint, Idaho.

If you don't feel like cooking yourself, there are fabulous restaurants and lounges in Trout Creek and nearby towns.

Excellent private place

  • 5 of 5

Just like having your own oasis. Quiet, nicely appointed, homey, very clean, room for our dog to wander. (They even left him a welcome bisquit on the counter!) Perfect accommodations for a weekend getaway. Erika and Dieter are excellent hosts. They made sure we were comfortable and were available in case we needed anything. We will be back.

Weekend getaway

  • 5 of 5

The homestead cabin is a great spot for a weekend getaway - my husband and I spent two nights in Erika and Deiter's sweet little cabin - had a great dinner at the local Naughty Pine pub on fish-fry night (!), explored the valley, and had a lovely hike up to Rock Lake in the Cabinet Mountains. The cabin is really comfortable for 2 - well stocked kitchen and cosy set up in the living spaces. Erika and Deiter are kind and generous hosts - they have a lovely spot, and make one feel quite welcome upon arrival. Many thanks to them!

Relaxing. Peaceful. Fun

  • 4 of 5

Erica & Dieter have created a little slice of tranquility in Northwestern Montana. Their cabin is a jumping off point for all kinds of adventure. For us, it was the opportunity for us to do nothing, have a pajama day, or head out into the Last Best Place looking for wildlife. We saw elk, deer, wild turkeys and best of all, bighorn sheep that had come down into the meadows east of Thompson Falls along Route 200. Every morning and evening we had visits from the deer that abound in the area. A good respite with good hosts.
