About Kate Green

For most of the year we live by the sea on the south coast of England. We've both been coming to Spain since we were children and have family and friends in Andalucia. With retirement in sight we'd been looking for our own rural retreat for about 5 years and knew we had found it when we first came to Casa Alegria.

Kate Green purchased this villa in 2011

Why Kate Green chose Almogía

Casa Alegria is situated in an olive grove 'far from the madding crowd' but less than an hour from the coast and from Malaga airport. The pretty town of Valle de Abdalajis is about 15 minutes away, with the larger towns of Villanueva de la Concepcion and Almogia within less half an hour and the historic town of Antequera, with its castle and full range of shops and restaurants about 40 minutes away. Granada, Cordoba and Seville are all easy day trips.

What makes this villa unique

We are surrounded by beautiful countryside and near to El Chorro and the Ardales lakes with climbing and water sports available.El Torcal reserve is about 30 minutes away. If you are looking for peace and quiet then just relax by the pool and while away the day.

This was our second visit to this lovely villa set in beautiful Andalusian countryside. The holiday was so relaxing with the fantastic swimming pool, great little towns and villages, and such friendly Spanish people.

Very relaxing three week holiday!

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous, relaxing 3 week holiday in clean, well kitted out property with pool to ourselves. Lovely, quiet and remote location. Car essential. Two good local restaurants in nearby village 15minutes drive away. Friendly, delicious food and good value. Supermarket 20 minute drive from property. El Chorro nearby and worth a visit- good walking shoes needed. We will be returning again!

Lovely pool and villa

  • 5 of 5

The first thing that struck us on arriving at Casa Alegria was the amazing pool and surrounding area which was so well equipped. The villa was very comfortable with ceiling fans in all rooms and dotted around outside were a variety of places to sit and relax. We used the gas fired barbeque most evenings and ate outside at the table overlooking the pool area. Although a laptop would probably do the job just as well, we brought our Google Chromecast which kept the kids entertained after dark with Netflix etc. on the TV. In addition to trips to Cordoba, El Chorro and the Ardales lakes we visited Al Hambra in Granada which was magical.

Wonderful villa and swimming pool

  • 5 of 5

We have just returned from a holiday at this lovely villa set within beautiful gardens complete with lemon, lime and fig trees, and the most beautiful swimming pool. The nearby towns and villages were beautiful and historically very interesting, and Granada (a bit further afield) was well worth the trip. We would certainly recommend to friends and family.

A thoroughly peaceful and restful break. The villa was just as described but the pool area was even more rewarding. The villa is located in a very out of the way area but not isolated, there is good acess to local resturants and shops. The surrounding area is very beautiful but without all the crowds.

Early evening was our favourite time around the pool as you could see eagles soaring overhead and in the distance you could hear the bells on the horses ....superb.

A beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

A wonderful villa for those who like their vacation to be a real get away. The interior decoration is tasteful and provided ample space for our family of four. The outside terrace is lovely and the pool area is amazing with nicely designed outside shower. The pool was very clean and the kids absolutely loved it! The BBQ was great with spare gas on site. All in all a great place that i would fully endorse. The location is remote but that worked for us, as we were looking for a place to get away from the stresses of daily life. The local supermarkets are fairly good and a nice 15 min drive away. There are much better options further afield in Antequera. Also a good spot to explore the lakes and mountains. The only improvement for me would be better fans in the bedrooms as can become hot at night time but only a minor point. Also think photos on this site don't fully do the place justice, which if i were the owner i would rectify. I think the place is better than the visuals which is normally the other away round, so nicely surprised.

The areas of El Chorro and Abdalajis are renowned as premier locations for all things extreme including off road/mountain biking, excellent climbing and for the brave, paragliding!. At Ardales lakes there are kayaks, boats and pedalos for hire. Should you want to take things at a more leisurely pace there are endless beautiful walks with stunning landscape views surrounding the villa, on which you are able to appreciate our varied flora and fauna.

The beautiful lakes at Ardales, just 30 minutes away, offer fabulous freshwater swimming, fishing and watersports in turquoise waters...surrounded by pinewoods and soaring eagles! The many popular beaches along the coast are only an hour away by car.

The villa is easily accessible from both Malaga Airport (1 hour) and Granada Airport (1hr 20m). Road links are good from both airports and we will be happy to give you comprehensive directions door to door! Prebooking your car hire is advisable, with many companies based at Malaga airport offering competitive rates.

We are situated between the two pretty towns of Villanueva de la Concepcion and Almogia and the smaller village of Valle de Abdalajis is 5kms away, 15 minutes by car, along a combination of tarmac and unmade road. The wonderful cities of Seville, Granada, Cordoba and Ronda are all easily accessible by road. A car is essential for you to fully appreciate this beautiful region.

With the many fiestas and ferias celebrated in the surrounding villages throughout the year the area has something to offer everyone! The Valley of Abdalajis is ideal for the sport of hang-gliding, to such an extent that the area is known as the capital of this sport. With excellent weather all the year around and ideal geographical conditions for flying, many people come here to practice this and other sports associated with free-flight. Trekking, cycling and climbing are also popular sports here too, with more than 75 climbing routes in the Sierra de Abdalajís, varying in difficulty from III to 6b+.
