Overview

About the property

2 bedroom, 2 bathroom. Views over farmland. Garden, Parking, Use of tennis court

Silver Cottage was a tumble-down Silver Smith's workshop and horse stable dating from the early 1800s. It has had a total renovation and is now the ideal location for a peaceful retreat. It is situated at the end of a private lane that leads into open countryside between the hamlet of Hunton and Yalding village. It is silent at night with only the odd tractor during the warm summer days. Yet the village of Yalding has excellent pubs, a restaurant, a cafe (for great coffee), monthly Farmers' Market, the excellent Yalding Organic Gardens, a village shop, post office, access to the river Medway (fishing, canoeing etc) and many historic buildings and features.

It is a glorious walk to Yalding in 20-30 minutes or a 5 minute drive.

On entering the front door of Silver Cottage there is a cloakroom to the right with a large walk-in shower. The next room is a twin bedroom with plenty of built-in storage. The rest of the ground floor is taken up by the kitchen / diner and sitting room. The kitchen is large and has a dishwasher, washing machine and fridge. The dining table seats six and there are two sofas, a TV, stereo and a fabulous wood-burning stove. Under-floor heating is fitted throughout the ground floor. The main bedroom is upstairs and has a generous en-suite bathroom with roll-top bath.

The cottage has its own private garden and terrace, use of the adjoining field, private parking, use of the owners' tennis court and large barbecue.

The cottage would suit a family looking for a quiet, rural, summer holiday or those looking for a cosy winter break, snuggled inside with the wood-burning stove. The building has been insulated with modern products and holds the heat in winter and is cool in the summer.

Clean, complete with everything that could be needed. Owners were friendly and we loved their dogs ?

  • 5 of 5

Weather and surroundings were lovely we just loved the garden and available paddock, as did our dog. We ate out at nearby restaurants particularly liked the Tickled Trout hotel. Everything in the cottage was first class and we had a wonderful week.

Silver Cottage gets gold from us!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is located at the end of a lane which allows for some privacy, but is not at all isolated as there are beautiful country houses close by. The setting is lovely, and the bird life, scenery, and sunsets are gorgeous. This is a well appointed, stylish, comfortable little home and during our stay gave us a peaceful haven while we looked for property to buy. There is everything you could want! The owners are extremely nice - responding quickly to the very few small issues that arose and always giving us space and respect. My sister and I loved Silver Cottage and will always be grateful for the calm and soothing contrast it provided to our hectic and busy lives while there. We cannot recommend it highly enough.

Wonderful holiday!

  • 5 of 5

We (Dutch family of four with two teenagers) enjoyed our holiday (one week in April 2018) in this Silver Cottage very much! The old cottage is situated next to a few beautiful old houses in a central area. The cottage is freshly painted and decorated in a beautiful style. The roll top bath is lovely as well! The dishwasher, washing machine, oven etc make life very enjoyable. We visited the white cliffs of Beachy Head, wow! Canterbury is a an old town with funky little shops with for example a fudge kitchen! Brighton is great as well! For the garden lovers: Sissinghurst Castle is near by and worth a visit! Do join the tours in the garden and house. We visited Rye as well. Do climb the stairs in the church and enjoy the view. We loved it all! Thank you so much for this wonderful week!

A pearl in the area

  • 4 of 5

We – a Dutch family of 4 persons - enjoyed our stay for two weeks in Silver Cottage very much. It is a well-equipped, cosy cottage, provided with all the comforts. It lies in a calm neighbourhood at the end of a lane. The owners live nearby and they are very friendly if there is something you want to know.

It is a nice central point for trips by car to the interesting cities: within one hour to London or Canterbury and within an hour and 15 minutes in Brighton or Eastbourne. And if you want to walk, you can make many, many walks just outside the door: both fields and woods are nearby.

In short, it is in all perspectives a Silver Cottage, a pearl in the area.

The local area has two main towns; Maidstone (the County town of Kent) and Tunbridge Wells with its picturesque Pantiles quarter. Both towns are a 20-30 minute drive from the property. The southeast of England is typically hotter and drier in the summer months than other parts of the UK and it receives less rainfall throughout the year.

The nearest train station is Marden (12 minute drive) or Paddock Wood (17 minute drive). This train takes you to London Charing Cross in 50 minutes. Or you can go to Maidstone East station (20 minute drive). This station takes you to London Victoria.

Ebbsfleet is 30 minute drive and from here you can board the EuroStar to France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Traffic permitting it is possible to drive to the cottage from central London in one to one and a half hours.
