Located at the foot of Lythe bank Sandsend is a picturesque village with cottages set against a backdrop of cliffs and two meandering streams which lead to the sandy beach.
The beach featured as one of Britain's 20 best beaches by Telegraph Travel. Sandsend beach is "Set against a backdrop of grassy cliffs, where the wide sweep of beach from Whitby ends, this stretch is quieter and prettier than its famous neighbour. Children play in the little becks that flow across the sand and ducks waddle across the green in charming Sandsend village. This is a great place for fossil hunting at low tide."
The village has several excellent cafes (including Sandside Cafe which is 2 minutes from the house) as well as a very popular local pub, The Hart Inn (about a 5-7 minute walk). There are also excellent restaurants such as Fish Cottage Bistro (which also offers takeaway fish & chips) and Estbek House with its award winning restaurant and extensive fine wine selection,
About 2-3 miles to the south is the historic fishing town of Whitby which you can walk to from Sandsend along the beach when the tide is out in around 40 minutes or catch a bus (service every 30 minutes). Whitby is dominated by the cliff top ruins of its 13th century Abbey and famous for its connections with Captain Cook and Dracula. It has many good restaurants there and numerous very good fish and chips shops including the celebrated Magpie Cafe. There is a golf course on the cliffs between Sandsend and Whitby. Further to the south is Robin Hoods Bay and the lovely Victorian seaside town of Scarborough (home to the Stephen Joseph Theatre where Alan Ayckbourn premieres all his plays).
A visit to the area would not be complete without a trip to the North Yorkshire Moors. The NYMR steam railway operates between Whitby and Pickering taking in some tremendous scenery which featured in the popular television series "Heartbeat" and the James Herriot books.

An absolutely wonderful holiday. Fabulous location and beaches. The accommodation is very comfortable and every need is catered for from doggie bowls to children's toys, games books and DVDs. A lovely pretty and safe garden for dogs and young children? The house is centrally placed for places to visit: nearby Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Scarborough etc. There is so much to do. We definitely want to visit the Pavilion again.

Very pleased you enjoyed your stay and hope you'll pay us a return visit soon.
Lovely family Christmas in comfortable warm house, everything we needed, layout perfect for our needs, amazing to have a bathroom each couple and a large garden for the dogs to run round in.
We had a long weekend (fri8th-mon11th nov) with my family - brothers and sisters - 8 of us - I’m the youngest at 57!!!
Beautiful house, everything you would need for 5 couples, each bedroom with their own bathroom.
Comfortable lounge, huge dining table in kitchen...kept finding extra’s in numerous cupboards even dog bowls! Board games & karaoke which we did get going & gave us all a laugh & memorable last evening.
Fantastic location just a few minutes to Sandsend beach and 5 min walk to The Hart pub where we had a lovely meal saturday night. Dogs loved the huge lawn at the front and we even helped ourselves to apples off the tree!!
A comfortable, well appointed house in a quiet location but within east reach of the beach for early morning dog and toddler walking.
Good garden for playing and relaxing in when the weather allows.

Great House and Beautiful Location
The house was very clean and well equipped.we had a range of ages from 18 month olds to 92 years so broad spectrum so having bedrooms on the first floor then upstairs suited our needs.
The location is a minute walk to the beach and five mins drive to Whitby.I would certainly recommend the property for large families or a group of friends .
There is enough car parking for four cars at the end of the property. Sandsend store is worth a visit go and try the gin's and does great location of breads .cakes and jams etc and also the daily newspapers very welcoming as are all the local cafes and pubs

Very pleased to hear you had such an enjoyable stay and that the house worked well for such a wide age range. The 2 groundfloor bedrooms and bathrooms often prove popular for guests with older relatives or anyone with mobility issues. Though Sandsend is small it's lucky to have a good village store, a great pub in The Hart Inn, a couple of good restaurants (Bridge Bistro and Estbek House), and a few excellent cafes (Sandside and Witz End) all within easy walking distance of the house.

Beautiful property in an excellent location
perfect layout for our large family get away. Excellent facilities, all as described, the little things made all the difference, eg games, books etc. The property is clean and well maintained. A beautiful location with easy links to Whitby but in a quieter location.

Perfect. Exactly as advertised
Our party was 6 adults, two teenagers and two young children. The house is well equipped and laid out so we weren't falling over each other. The garden was perfect for the small children as they were able to play safely within view of the front of the house. If you want to self cater for all meals every item of kitchen equipment is there on hand. For us the location was perfect. The walk into Whitby is lovely and the beach is only a couple of minutes walk away. We were lucky with the weather so even though it was October the kids were able to play on the beach. Great property.

Perfect family holiday
The whole booking process and dealings with the proprietor were very positive. The accomadation was perfect for everyone and having our own bathrooms was a bonus. The garden was great for my 3 year old son and the two dogs had plenty of space. My brother and I even played tennis in the garden. The house was clean and very organised regarding instructions for using the equipment. All in all a family holiday we'll remember and would highly recommend to others.

The Pavilion Sandsend
The property is great for a family get together. It was very clean and equipped. The beach is down a residential road and just over a main road so not too far to walk.
Cafe on the beach and local pubs serving food. Also a local general store and a Sainsbury’s nearby.
Dogs are allowed on certain parts of the beach.
The owner of the property kept in touch by email and provided good customer service.
I would definitely recommend this property for a family. We found lots to do in the area despite poor weather.

Reunion of friends at The Pavilion
We had a wonderful long weekend at The Pavilion. After parking at the spacious parking area we met our group at The Hart and sat around the open fire for a welcome drink. We all agreed The Pavilion was in a stunning location with the sea views from most of the windows. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable with the newly installed bathrooms an added bonus. The Pavilion is really a home from home . We walked into Whitby on our first day and joined the Clevland Way to walk to Runswick Bay the following day . It was a pleasure to return to our warm comfortable accommodation each day . The communication with Anne the owner was excellent.

Wonderful
This is a wonderful property for a large extended family to enjoy some real peace and quiet whilst being close to a beautiful beach which was great for the kids. The house is very well equipped with everything you need, beds are very comfortable and property was generally clean. Quite a few minor breakages were noted on arrival, however a useful notebook provided for recording these. Some crockery needed washing. If we had to comment on one downside, it would be that this is the first property in over 25 years of renting holiday homes that hasn't had the making of at least a cup of tea on arrival, as most provide a small welcome pack.
Overall though were very happy with the accommodation, and would definitely consider booking it again at a future date. Anne, the owner provided really useful information and was very prompt in contacting us afterwards and the good housekeeping deposit was returned promptly.
Sandsend is a beautiful location, and it is well worth walking through the village, the beach is beautiful and visits to Runswick Bay and Saltwick Bay were enjoyed by everyone, with plenty of fossil finds. Falling Foss tea rooms just through Ruswarp is also well worth visiting and there are many woodland walks there to enjoy.

Comfy, spacious and well equipped
The Pavilion is located in the idyllic village of Sandsend, which stands alone as a family holiday location, but the excellent public transport links make it an excellent base for seaside towns like Whitby, the North York Moors and many pretty villages.
The house is spacious and very well equipped, particularly for families with children. The owner is considerate and helpful and seems to have thought of everything to make your holiday as smooth running as possible.

A delightful comfortable well equipped property
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Pavilion despite the less than perfect weather. The location is excellent and the views superb-when the sea mist is not around!!One of number was in a wheelchair and found the property very wheelchair friendly. The property is generally spacious. The kitchen is particularly well equipped. We found the bus extremely useful for getting around. We enjoyed visits to nearby National Trust properties and Eden Camp and of course Whitby and Scarborough. As a group we stay in a large property every year and all agreed The Pavilion was high up on the list of favourites !!

Great location for a get together.
Great location just yards to the beach in a quiet residential area. House very clean and well thought out. The set up of five bedrooms and bathrooms across two floors feels like you all have your own space. Dining area a touch small when big meals taking place but glorious outside dining area if weather good. Would definitely use it again.

THE PAVILION SANDSEND - SPLENDID VENUE
Edwardian tennis pavilion, now fully modernised, well equipped and very comfortable. Great views over the North Sea from all rooms. Smashing location with scenic walks and the wonderful Whitby on the doorstep. We held a family reunion and thoroughly enjoyed our weekend. The storms and gales only added to our experience and helped us to appreciate even more the coziness of the Pavilion. We highly recommend you visit this beautiful place.

excellant place for family holiday
What a delightful home that easily accommodated our eight adults and two small children. All home comforts at hand and a really nice garden area.
The excellent beach at the bottom of the road was so clean and kids loved the area where river comes into sea.
Will definitely return soon and easy to see why it always gets 5 stars.

Delighted you enjoyed your stay. The area where the river joins the beach is a wonderful place for children to play - very safe and with the added attraction of the ducks. I do hope you'll come and see us again in the future.
About the host
Hosted by Anne Goode
Though from Yorkshire I now live in London but get back to the area often as we now own 3 holiday properties on the North Yorkshire coast. It's always a pleasure coming back and enjoying the beautiful scenery and genuine friendliness of the locals.
Why they chose this property
Coming from Scarborough I have always loved the Yorkshire coast and was searching for a long time in the Whitby area for the right property to become available. When we found the Pavilion we realized this was perfect as it offered a quiet location with sea views, dedicated parking (which is a real asset in both Whitby and Sandsend) and the convenience of 5 shower/bathrooms which gives ourselves and our guests the luxury of private facilities to go with each room.
What makes this property unique
It's lovely to look out from any of the front rooms and see and hear the sea. We love taking a stroll down to the beach and when the tide is out having a leisurely walk along the strand to Whitby. Sandsend is a delightful village which retains an old fashioned charm that makes it hugely popular with visitors old and new.
