About this property
Stunning 3 Bed Cottage
Cottage in Hackforth, near Bedale, North Yorkshire, England - Peaceful location in a rural setting, overlooking North Yorkshire's countryside.
Mullion Cottage is a lovely 18th century rural home. Sleeping 6 guests in comfort. Underfloor heating throughout downstairs is ably supported by two log burning stoves, one at each end of the property. Dating back to the mid 18th century and renovated in 2015, this property has lost none of it's original charm. Solid stone hearths give way to a solid wood floor leading to an open plan kitchen/dining area. Garden furniture and barbeque are provided. The secluded rear garden and patio area are south westerly facing and trap the last of the sun rays. The main bedroom has exposed beams and an en-suite shower room. The remaining two bedrooms, also with their share of exposed beams share the family bathroom. All bedrooms face the front of the house, catching the morning sun and overlook fields to the hills in the distance. A super location for hiking and biking around the North Yorkshire countryside. Parking for two cars on the drive, with a separate secure garage for bikes.

A lovely, cosy Christmas stay. Fantastic to walk into the house to see a roaring fire going and a hamper of food to get us started. Gary was a great host and we even managed to cook Christmas lunch

We had a lovely stay at Mullion Cottage. Gary is an excellent host and his welcome hamper is superb. The cottage is beautifully presented, with lots of space for our dogs. The beds were incredibly comfortable - perfect after a day exploring the gorgeous countryside right on the doorstep. The views to the front of the cottage are stunning, and the deer farm, just a few steps away, was a spectacle to behold. Plenty of dog walks, great pub food, farm shops....we fell in love with Mullion Cottage and can't wait to return.

Outstanding cottage
To put it simply mullion cottage is the nicest cottage we've stayed in. Gary is an excellent host and looked after everything we needed; from the travel cot for our little one to the fridge full of goodies to get us started with breakfast on the first day, he had it all covered.

The cottage is delightful and perfect for two couples and a teenager. There was plenty of space, enough bathrooms, comfortable beds and a bit of garden to enjoy.
We enjoyed dinner a couple of evenings at the local pub and found so much to do that we all enjoyed.
A first but not last visit!

Fabulous stay!
We had a wonderful stay at Mullion Cottage! The cottage and it’s beautiful country views provides every home comfort and gave us a very enjoyable stay. Gary couldn’t have been more helpful and provided the best welcome pack we’ve ever had in a rented property - thank you!! The area was central for both the Dales and North Yorkshire and we particularly liked Bedale and the surrounding area. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the cottage.

Fantastic cottage, in wonderful location. Gary couldn’t have been more helpful - was a lovely surprise to arrive to a hamper and fridge of goodies on arrival. Cottage is in a beautiful part of North Yorkshire and we had a great few days exploring the local area in the spring sunshine. Cottage was really well equipped with everything we could have needed and the kids were delighted with the toys and books left out for them. Hope to return in the not too distant future!

Hi Laura, was a pleasure having you stay at the cottage. Delighted to read you enjoyed your time here and the kids kept themselves amused. 😁. We look forward to welcoming you back, until then……
We loved Mullion Cottage. It was sympathetically refurbished, very stylish and well equipped. It had everything we needed, from a place to store our bikes and to watch birds in the garden, to a range cooker, scales and a food blender for cooking up a roast dinner. We didn’t need the log fire in September but it was ready for us, just in case.
The local pub is recommended, and within a few miles are attractive villages, country walks, country houses, quiet cycling roads, and plenty more things to do. Newby Hall was a hidden gem, and another was the farm round the corner with hundreds of grazing deer.
Thanks for a great stay Gary.

We had a wonderful stay the property is great, everything we had hoped for and the welcome basket is a lovely touch.
A great location for walking or getting easily on to the A1
The local pub is a 2 minute walk, dog friendly and serves good food.
Lovely house, nicely presented and spotlessly clean. Owner was very helpful and there was a great welcome pack on arrival.
There's so much to see and do in the area. We did a couple of great walks plus I also recommend Wensleydale Creamery, The Herriot museum, Betty's Tea Rooms, Masham Breweries, How Stean Gorge and the amazing Puzzle Corner.
Fantastic property, arrived in the evening, fridge was filled with breakfast goodies, generous touch.
Gary was very hospitable. Beautiful area, plenty to do and places to visit would definitely stay again
Thank you
We enjoyed a wonderful few days at Mullion cottage, what an absolute retreat! The cottage is so well equipped, tastefully decorated and in a great location for exploring the Dales. The set up was perfect for us as we could put our 8 month old in her own room and we were right next door and had use of the family bathroom. My parents had the master room which is separated from the other two bedrooms and has an ensuite, so we all had our own private space and didn't disturb eachother, ideal!
We had very mixed weather during our visit but were lucky enough to have some lovely evening sun in the garden and even managed a bbq. On the day when it rained endlessly (there is always one isn't there!) we enjoyed a fabulous meal at the local pub, which is only a short walk away and has the friendliest staff who were extremely accomodating.
Gary the host has thought of everything to make your stay enjoyable, providing wood for the wood burning stoves and a fridge full of delicious provisions for your first mornings breakfast, a lovely touch which was really appreciated!
All in all one of the nicest places we've stayed and highly recommended for a quiet retreat. Thanks Gary, we will be back!
Me and my wife and 2 labradors had a fantastic few days in Mullion Cottage....fabulous welcome pack on arrival met Gary the owner on first night who gave us great advice of places to go n dog walks ect...really nice fella

Everything about it was 5 star in my opinion

We loved our time at Mullion Cottage. It was such a comfortable place to stay and we felt very at home there. Gary even went to the trouble of popping a stair gate in for our toddler.
Amazing arrival pack of goodies, we were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived.
Thank you & we can certainly recommend it!

The cottage was very comfortable, well equipped, the owner had left an array of goodies for our arrival, as there is no shop in the village it was very welcome. There is a very good pub just up the road which serves very good food. Certainly a place we would return to.

About the host
Hosted by gary fullegar
Gary and Jackie moved into the village in 2004. Archie came along a couple of years later!! Gary, originally a southerner has done his best to convert to all things 'northern', but he still can't get used to the amount of 'head' served on his beer!!
Why they chose this property
Gary used to cut the grass at an allotment at the top of the village. One day, the owner of Mullion Cottage was sitting on a chair on the front step simply admiring the view. A conversation with 'this stranger' was started. Gary made himself a promise that if ever the property 'came on the market' he would make every attempt to purchase the property. Anyway, to cut a long story short, it did, so he did!!
What makes this property unique
First and foremost, the cottage has a prominent position within the village and the enjoys wonderful views across the fields. Depending upon the time of year there are scores of little lambs to be seen jumping about. Aside from the A1, (which is currently being upgraded) there is no such thing as traffic up here. Gridlock is when the car in front decides to turn right!!
