About The Owner

The owners, Steve and Janna, have lived and worked in Southern Oregon all their lives. They have a combined 50 years of work experience with the U.S. Forest Service and can be a useful source of information about local sights, native plants and the wild animals in the area…as well as local history. Their son Jesse returned to his hometown of Prospect back in 2010, and he, along with his wife Samantha, have been helping with the Cabin along with other building projects his parents have been doing in the Prospect area. They, along with their two kids, enjoy the scenic beauty and quiet of Prospect life.

Why The Owner chose Prospect

We actually built the cabin ourselves with the help of family and friends. We wanted to showcase our love of working with wood and this seemed the perfect place to do that.

What makes this cabin unique

The grounds are complete with beautiful landscaping, a hammock, fire pit, an outdoor fireplace under the covered patio, and even a set of outdoor tubs and an outdoor shower.

This site is within easy driving distance of Crater Lake National Park which is Oregon’s only National Park. The drive from the cabin to the South Entrance of the park is a 30 minute drive through a beautiful section of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. The Wild and Scenic Rogue River is just a short drive away from the cabin. There are many hiking and viewing opportunities on this majestic river. Rafting is also available for everyone from novice to experienced rafters. Raft rentals are available within a half hour drive.

Nearby attractions include Crater Lake National Park, Diamond Lake Resort, Rogue River Gorge, Natural Bridge on the Rogue, Mill Creek and Barr Creek Falls, Lost Creek Lake and the majestic Rogue River, just to name a few. Prospect is located along the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Steve & Janna – Rodney & I had a great visit in your cabin. We have a goal to step foot into all 50 states before Rodney turns 50 in 2015. “Fifty by fifty” is our slogan! We have now been to over 30 and your cabin by far has been the most creative, thoughtful and well stocked place we have stayed. Congrats on a job well done!Back home in Crawfordsville, Indiana, time is the biggest thing Rodney & I have to deal with. I am a dental hygienist and have to deal with time issues and scheduling all day. Rodney is a bindery machine operator in a printer and rotates shifts every 4 weeks so planning in advance ALWAYS results in timing issues. Once we arrived here, we didn’t worry or think about TIME!! We were able to relax and only focus on enjoying ourselves and seeing the sites. Thank you for providing and keeping this place a peaceful retreat. While in Prospect we enjoyed seeing Crater Lake, not only hiking but the boat excursion across the lake. We really enjoyed your local sites of Avenue of Giants, Mill Creek and Pearsony Falls. What a great little adventure so close to the cabin! We are so glad to have found you on VRBO and will recommend your cabin to anyone wishing to travel to Oregon.Good luck with your other projects and try to enjoy your “retirement” Cairns are landmarks for trails to help find your way. If we come to this area again, we will definitely be looking for yours!Rodney & Amy Lynn Byrd

Wonderful Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a great long weekend getaway at the Red Blanket Cabin. Our goal was to visit Crater Lake National Park, which we did during a rain/snow storm, but we also found many other nearby attractions along the Rogue River. We had a very enjoyable walk along the property as well. The cabin itself was amazing, and perfect for the two of us. The woodworking is spectacular and the layout worked very well. Everything we needed was available, including the DVD's, wifi and TV. We did not get the opportunity to play the records, maybe next time. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend this as a great stay for couples or a small family!

Wonderful cabin in a beautiful setting! Fantastic woodwork and detailing. Every amenity imaginable!

  • 5 of 5

We have a lovely stay and only wish it was a longer visit. We will defiantly be returning.

It's quaint, cozy and immaculately clean. The kitchen and bathroom have everything you might need.

We appreciate all of the info about the owners, property and near by activities. You can really see the care put into this lovely home.

Our favorite thing about the cabin was the lighted outdoor fireplace/hut. You can sit on the patio furniture outside and roast marshmallows even if it's raining.

There's horseshoes, bikes, snow shoes, lawn games and even 2 outdoor soaking tubs with bubble bath and shower! All in complete privacy yet under the stars!

Plenty of boardgames, dvds, records, satellite, wi-fy, books and even washer/dryer.

Close to waterfalls and Crater Lake.

Thank You!

We had a great time!

Best place to stay close to Crater Lake

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed there for her birthday and we had a wonderful experience. The cabin and the property are beautiful! Lots of rustic and unique details in all rooms. Loved how the owners take place of the property and how welcoming the experience was.

Will refer to others for sure. And will come back.
