About The Owner

The owners, Steve and Janna, have lived and worked in Southern Oregon all their lives. They have a combined 50 years of work experience with the U.S. Forest Service and can be a useful source of information about local sights, native plants and the wild animals in the area…as well as local history. Their son Jesse returned to his hometown of Prospect back in 2010, and he, along with his wife Samantha, have been helping with the Cabin along with other building projects his parents have been doing in the Prospect area. They, along with their two kids, enjoy the scenic beauty and quiet of Prospect life.

Why The Owner chose Southern Oregon

We actually built the cabin ourselves with the help of family and friends. We wanted to showcase our love of working with wood and this seemed the perfect place to do that.

What makes this cabin unique

The grounds are complete with beautiful landscaping, a hammock, fire pit, an outdoor fireplace under the covered patio, and even a set of outdoor tubs and an outdoor shower.

This site is within easy driving distance of Crater Lake National Park which is Oregon’s only National Park. The drive from the cabin to the South Entrance of the park is a 30 minute drive through a beautiful section of the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest. The Wild and Scenic Rogue River is just a short drive away from the cabin. There are many hiking and viewing opportunities on this majestic river. Rafting is also available for everyone from novice to experienced rafters. Raft rentals are available within a half hour drive.

Nearby attractions include Crater Lake National Park, Diamond Lake Resort, Rogue River Gorge, Natural Bridge on the Rogue, Mill Creek and Barr Creek Falls, Lost Creek Lake and the majestic Rogue River, just to name a few. Prospect is located along the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Steve & Janna – Rodney & I had a great visit in your cabin. We have a goal to step foot into all 50 states before Rodney turns 50 in 2015. “Fifty by fifty” is our slogan! We have now been to over 30 and your cabin by far has been the most creative, thoughtful and well stocked place we have stayed. Congrats on a job well done!Back home in Crawfordsville, Indiana, time is the biggest thing Rodney & I have to deal with. I am a dental hygienist and have to deal with time issues and scheduling all day. Rodney is a bindery machine operator in a printer and rotates shifts every 4 weeks so planning in advance ALWAYS results in timing issues. Once we arrived here, we didn’t worry or think about TIME!! We were able to relax and only focus on enjoying ourselves and seeing the sites. Thank you for providing and keeping this place a peaceful retreat. While in Prospect we enjoyed seeing Crater Lake, not only hiking but the boat excursion across the lake. We really enjoyed your local sites of Avenue of Giants, Mill Creek and Pearsony Falls. What a great little adventure so close to the cabin! We are so glad to have found you on VRBO and will recommend your cabin to anyone wishing to travel to Oregon.Good luck with your other projects and try to enjoy your “retirement” Cairns are landmarks for trails to help find your way. If we come to this area again, we will definitely be looking for yours!Rodney & Amy Lynn Byrd

Absolutely wonderful

  • 5 of 5

Whether you are a local or traveler Red Blanket Cottage is a perfect little get away. As you come down the driveway the charm of the cottage will just amaze you. The grounds around the cottage are natural and just lovely.

Upon entry you will see a lovely decorated cabin. All wood and extremely comfortable. Everything is at your disposal...TV, internet, dishes, pans, pots, towels, games, laundry and more. Just so homie and wonderfully supplied so that the guest has no worries.

There are two bedrooms.....one upstairs and one down....and a futon bed/ sofa. Large refrigerator.....BTW bring supplies...long haul to purchase anything once here. We felt very comfortable and lacked for nothing during our stay.

Last but not least the yard....birds, flowers and two trails have been marked out on the property. Great for families with little ones. The pine tree loop trail is a short fun walk for kids and adults for that matter...I took it three time! Also in the back yard is a patio with table and chairs, horseshoes and an outdoor fire place!

Honestly there is nothing not to love about Red Blanket Cottage. If you like quiet and natural beauty then this is the place. You can not go wrong! We are only sorry about one thing.... we have to leave!

Gorgeous cabin. Covered outdoor area with an outdoor fireplace! Beautifil grounds. The owners have thought of EVERYTHING. They provide you with wine, coffee, laundrey supplies, pots, pans, dishes, etc., games,cds,dvds,records,Netflix,bicycles...oh, I could go on and on. Basically you just need to bring food and clothes and everything else is provided. There are 3 or 4 restaurants nearby but we went to Beckies at Union Creek for one meal and brought stuff from home for our ofhers. Used the cabins outdoor propane bbq too! Like i said they have everything. The wife and I were already planning our next stay here before we checked out

Delightful location, wonderfully equipped cabin near Crater Lake NP

  • 5 of 5

We loved our 2 nights at the Red Blanket Cabin. The first night we built a fire in the fire pit and enjoyed the stars. The next night there were a few sprinkles, so we took advantage of the outdoor fireplace in "the hut" and enjoyed both immensely. Thanks for the ample supply of firewood. Kitchen well equipped for making whatever meals you wish. Also we both enjoyed the outdoor shower. Just a lovely stay. ENJOY!!!!

Awesome property!!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was beautiful inside and outside. I truly appreciated how clean it was. The shed in the back with the fireplace was very unique and we really enjoyed sitting out there with our morning coffee while birdwatching and having the cozy fire out there in the evening. We had all of the amenities we needed and more. The owner was extremely attentive and helpful! I really wish we could have stayed a couple more days to enjoy the cabin and the area. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Jewel of a cabin

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our stay in this lovely little cabin. The owners decorated it with such thought - it's all in the little details. The cabin is well stocked in the kitchen. The beds/linens are very comfortable. The only odd thing is the hot water has a really bad smell - every time someone took a shower there was a really weird smell, same with hot water in the kitchen.

It's great location wise, it's about 35miles from crater lake(which was the main reason for our visit) and on the way there are viewpoints and snow parks.

I recommend getting to the cabin before sunset if this is your first time in these parts in winter.

Overall loved the stay and look forward to coming back again.

Owner's Response: We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at the cabin. We endeavor to keep it in top shape for every guest. We apologize very much for the smell of the water. The cabin is on a well and the hot water had not been used for some time. There is no problem with the water...just that it sat for too long without use, the bane of vacation rentals. We will make sure that it is drained when not in use for long periods so the odor does not linger.
