About meal...: Upon request, it is possible to prepared Tuscany dishes, carefully cooked by my mom Mina. The dishes are those of the ancient Tuscan tradition such as Pappa al Pomodoro (a soup-like dish prepared with bread and tomatoes), Ribollita (a potpourri of local vegetables and bread, simmered for hours and hours), and Tripe with tomato sauce (a very typical Florentine dish).
The History: The villa was built in the XVII century. At the beginning of the '900 the Berni's family bought the villa for the summer holiday in the Florentine countryside. The villa has been lovingly and elegantly restored at the begging of the 2007 with traditional taste and contemporary comfort. The four fireplaces, terracotta floors and antique furnishings compliment the history of the villa, while the luxurious linens, modern bathrooms and air conditioning create a relaxing elegance in this tranquil country setting.

My name is Alessandro - live in Florence. I manage my properties (I own 4 total) with my wife Arianna and my brother Enrico to the best of our abilities. We are extremely helpful in preparations for your stay, as well as while you will on site. We provide all the information on places to eat and to shop and to visit our special city. We work to assure that our villa will be your home away from home and visit Florence as only a Florentine person can do
Alessandro Berni purchased this Villa in 1900
Why Alessandro Berni chose Impruneta
Villa Berni is my grandfather villa, I fully restored the villa in the 2007 year with every amenity and comfort. The location is great! Infact the villa is near the five Tuscany Unesco heritage sites: 1.Historic centre of Florence (10-15 minutes away from the property by car). 2.Historic centre of Siena (45 minutes away from the property by car); 3.Piazza del Duomo of Pisa (50 minutes away from the property by car); 4.Historic centre of Lucca (60 minutes away from the property by car); 5.Towers of Sangiminiano (30 minutes away from the property by car).
What makes this Villa unique
The villa has inside the unique sign of its historic origin and the comfort of a modern one. From the tower of the villa you can have a wonderfull sightsee of the hitoric city centre of Florence. The garden is a unique and real florentine garden style.

A lovely villa in nice surroundings
The house is great, very large and with a warm and friendly atmosphere. We had some chilly days and the heating worked very well, and when it was warm it was lovely to open the doors to the garden and enjoy the sun outside. The bedrooms are spacious and beautifully decorated. The top bedroom is very special and has it own bathroom, so has the smaller bedroom on the ground floor. The kitchen is practical and is fully equipped for cooking. We did not try the outside barbecue, but lit a fire in the dining room one evening and that was very cozy. We are a family of four and the reason we rented such a large house was that two of us had to do much studying/writing during the course of the week. That worked well - there are two desks in separate rooms on the ground floor. It is about ten minutes drive to Florence, we usually parked in a large car park just inside Porta Romana (2 euros per hour) and walked to the city center through the Oltrarno area. But there is also a frequent bus service from the nearby village of Tavernuzze, some 15-20 minutes walk from the house. We visited several nice places, among others Impruneta and a lovely organic farm called Fattoria de Maiano on the Fiesole side of Florence. The restaurant just down the street from the house (Villa Castiglione) is good. Enrico met us and took good care of us. An issue with the hot water in one of the bathrooms was fixed immediately and he also brought us eggs from their own hens. We would definitely like to come again.
Our family of 14 stayed very comfortably in Alessandro's villa! We arrived and were blown away by the villa grounds and the charm of the house. The pictures do not do this place justice as far as giving you the full view of what you are truly getting just outside Florence. We enjoyed cooking in most nights (because the gardens were just too spectacular to leave) and lounging in the gardens. The sunsets are not to be missed, and we journeyed out the front gate with a glass of wine to see the sun set just over the Duomo which can be seen from the road. Alessandro and his brother Enrico were great with helping us organize day trips and also offered to call and set up dinner reservations if we needed. The bus stop is not far from the villa (although it is a hike if you are not used to walking longer distances), but we were able to park at the parking lot on the hotter days when we didn't feel like walking (it's free!!). The kids (and adults) enjoyed cooling off in the pool after a day in the city which made a perfect segway into relaxing with a glass of wine before dinner. We utilized Mina's cooking services on our last night and enjoyed an authentic home cooked meal which helped complete our experience. The whole experience from check in to check out was seamless and we could not be more appreciative of Alessandro and his family. Our family had a vacation for the books!
This July my husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary with a long awaited trip to Italy - meeting up with all our children at Villa Berni. We were not disappointed. The historic house is beautiful, more beautiful than the photos show. Powerful AC units in each bedroom were welcome - a must really, at that time of year. From the first, Alessandro was wonderful and accommodating as we planned the trip. Marco came to meet us at the train. Enrico came over to explain and tuck us into the house and the garden. Alessandro's wife Adrianna arrived with fresh vegetables and olive oil -- from their trees! Any time we had a question or a need thereafter, the brothers responded promptly with a solution. It was obvious that they take great pride in their hospitality and their villa. The garden was delightful - the family of 5 tortoises, weed patrol in this magical garden, came out to greet us when we arrived, and my daughters immediately fell to feeding them rose petals. The little pool is a delightful addition to the garden space - and a great place from which to view it. Hopefully the nine of us were not too loud as we sat around the large garden table, drinking Italian wine, visiting, making music, and laughing far into the night! We took the advice of another visitor and hired Marco to drive us to the supermarket, into Florence, way out to Volterra, to San Gimignano, to Lucca for a wine tasting -- a super way to get around the countryside. We enjoyed Marco very much. The villa is close enough to Florence that you can view the Duomo from the uppermost bedroom or the street. But that doesn't mean you can walk to it! Some kind of transportation will be required. Our oldest daughter, an art student in Florence, got up early to walk down the twisty little road through the olive trees to the bus in Galuzzo several mornings - and up again in the evenings! - and she absolutely loved it. She's intrepid! We did some cooking for ourselves, but we also took advantage of the opportunity to hire chefs into the villa to cook for our family three times, which was fascinating culturally, and saved money compared to taking our large group to a restaurant. We have to say a word about Antonella (sp?) the Berni family housekeeper - what a treasure! She has a lovely personality and helped us in a myriad ways. The only thing I would change about our trip: by the end of our July week it was HOT! June or September might be ideal...we'll just have to return!
Charming villa in a fantastic location
Villa Berni is as described just outside Florence with a stunning view of the city from the Tower Bedroom. The garden is lovely to relax in during the day and the whole setting is wonderfully peaceful and rural. The pool whilst not large is great for a cooling dip after a hot day seeing the sights in Florence. We were a party of 4 couples, my wife and I and our 3 grown up children with their partners. The villa was plenty spacious enough, we could easily have catered for more! We hired a car in Pisa and drove over to the villa; I would say a car is essential as the supermarket is a few kms down the hill so lugging heavy shopping back up the hill in relatively high temperatures would not have worked for us, without a car. However as there were 8 of us arriving at different times, we also made use of Marco Berni's minibus service. He was great, taking us almost up to the door of the leaning tower of Pisa, also to Siena, Lucca, San Gimignano and my favourite of all, a wine-tasting at Castello di Verrazzano. He was very interesting to talk to about Tuscan life and very patient on the night we ended up waiting for him in the wrong square in Florence! Again as described the bus service into Florence from the bottom of the hill is reliable and the youngsters used that as a means of doing their own thing in the city. We also experienced the wonderful Tuscan cooking of Mina, Marco's mother, to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. It was delicious! We also had a Sicilian meal prepared for us which was also quite a treat. Any downsides....only the mosquitoes, so have some insect repellent handy; otherwise I would heartily recommend this villa as we had a marvellous holiday there.
Our family of 12 (10 adults and 2 teenagers) had a fantastic, 3 generation, vacation at Villa Berni. The accommodations were beautiful, historic, and comfortable. We cooked in every night and enjoyed wine in the garden outside. We hired Marco as our driver and I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to take advantage of this service. He was so helpful and kind to all of us - going out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. The Villa is a short distance out of Florence, but it is on some Italian roads (narrow, winding) which is an additional reason Marco was the best money spent. Honestly you won't find a villa experience within walking distance of Florence. I spent a lot of time researching, so any large home out in the hills will require a car, driver, or money spent on taxi service. The service between booking the Villa and arrival was exceptional. We can't wait to return!
Not impressed at all.
We booked this villa because we were attending my niece's wedding in Florence and needed a place to sleep 12. The villa was exactly as the photos but in need of some attention. My daughter had the downstairs room which was a bit fusty and during a thunderstorm, rain poured through the ceiling onto the bed. Water also came through all the glass doors and towles were needed to prevent accidents. My son's bed collapsed the first night and was not replaced until the third night. Noone came to ask if all was ok and the only contact was when we had to contact them. When we arrived there was no welcome pack of homegrown vegetables as the photos would have you believe. Indeed there was nothing at all. There was no information on the villa, nearest places to eat and drink and even no emergency telephone numbers or details of a local chemist and doctor. We were left on our own to find our own way to the nearest bus stop which is a real hike and would certainly not recommend walking back! The nearest supermarket is further than the bus stop and without a car, a taxi is needed. The villa is too far from Florence without a car. Taxi's one way are at least 25-30 euros. Overall we we were all disappointed in this villa and we all felt it spoilt our enjoyment of Florence. Even with a car, I would not recommend it. I felt that it could be very nice if it was maintained better and information on the workings of the house and emergency numbers should be a must.
I’m Alessandro Berni, the owner of Villa Berni.
Me and my family we manage our properties with love and I’m very sad to reply to this review but I have to do it.
First of all: the person that wrote the review is not the person who did the booking process with us but a person that came at the villa. During the booking process I personally send all the informations about the villa, its location (one of our best points as you can see for all our reviews), and all the usefull informations about the location (distance of nearest bus stop, distance from the supermarket, shops and etc.).
We always do the check-in personally. Only a smaller group of persons came at the check-in (the rest of persons, with the person that wrote the review included, arrived late in the night). During the check-in my brother Enrico gave all the informations about the location, shops, supermarket, bus stop and so on. The problem was that the person that wrote this review was not present at the check in but she came after and so she didn’t hear anything.
During the week the weather was terrible, there were two big and very windy storms, so during the night the wind was so strong that moved some tiles on the roof. The next morning our man (who work for us and for our guest full time) came immediately and fix it. We live few metres (just 100 metres away from the villa) so we come immediately when the guest need our help! It’s wasn’t a manteinance problem but it was an impredictable problem that we fixed immediately.
About the bed: one person of the group broked the bed during the night, the day after we came immediately but the bed was so broked that we can’t fix it, so we bought a new bed and we replace it the day after.
About “no welcome pack of homegrown vegetables”. I’m very sad to read it: we are always generous with our guests because me and my family are happy when our guests are happy and taste our products from our vegetable garden. The problem was that the weather during the period was terrible and we can’t pick vegetables when it’s raining a lot: the vegetables don’t grown without sun….I’m sorry but we can’t control the weather. However we said it at the check in but the person that wrote the review didn’t come at the check-in.
Lastly the location of our villa and the presence of my family close to the villa are two our best points, please check it and read by yourself on all the other reviews on this web site and on the www.vrbo.com web site (property ID 143299).
