The house is cozy and the screened in porch is the real highlight! The view of the sunset was the only thing that kept us awake until 9:00pm after days spent boating, walking, canoeing, and playing checkers.
This was a wonderful getaway. Lori was very helpful and even had a canoe and two kayaks for us to use down in the cove. The kids enjoyed mountain biking, fishing and catching toads. The screened in porch was wonderful. The views are amazing of the river and unbelievable sunsets. We will definitely recommend this VRBO to friends.
Glad you got to enjoy the lake and the lodge!
A Remote Retreat - Perfect for Friends to Gather
I stayed at the Hillbilly Relaxation with my friends and our partners (ages 19 - 22) for 3 nights in July of 2020. Lori was an amazing host, she went out of her way multiple times to show us how to drive down to the river, let us pet her cute little puppy, and fed us! Nowhere in SD could you get as good and as much of a meal for the same price!
The cabin was clean, comfy, and the location certainly was remote. Make sure your vehicle can handle the gravel and pasture roads, though they are well kept and marked. We all fared pretty well in our little cars, but just be aware! We did not want to walk down all those steps to get into the cabin itself, so we were able to park close to the entrance.
The rooms have everything you need and nothing you don't, with the bunkhouse being perfect for singles or kids. The huge soaking tub in the master bath is incredible! All 7 of us could easily fit around the dining table and enjoy each other's company.
We fished along the shore on the river by the cabin and even got some bites. If you plan on swimming, bring swim shoes since the river can be a bit rocky. Lori has a canoe, kayaks, and even chairs for your use!
We will be back for sure!
So glad to have your group. It was fun.
The cows are now in the lake pasture by the dock. Cow traffic jam getting to the lake.
Great place to get away from everything. Fishing was great right off the shore and the views from the cabin is breathtaking. Will be returning sometime in the near future. Thanks Lori!!!
The house has a perfect set up for families. The kids loved the bunk beds. There is ample room in living room, dining area and kitchen as well as 3 bathrooms. Our favorite sitting area was the large enclosed porch area. The screens protected us from mosquitoes and the view is phenomenal. The house is just a short drive to the river where you can fish and swim. Lori was great to work with and had excellent hospitality. We would definitely stay here again.
Directions from Pierre: From the Oahe Dam (at the Junction of 204 and 1804) go 19 miles North on 1804 to the 4 way stop. Go straight ahead 3 miles on 284th Avenue (still traveling North) to the stop sign at the T in the road (you will see a water tower). Turn right. Go 2.1 miles and turn left onto 182nd Street (you will see several mail boxes and a sign for public hunting land at this corner). Go 2.9 miles and the road sharply curves left. Stay left on gravel and go PAST the driveway where you see a yellow pole barn on right. Within .6 miles from view of yellow pole barn you will cross a cattle guard. Look out for cows. Take an immediate left and follow driveway about 2.5 miles to a Y in the driveway and stay left. You will see the garage. The home is tucked down the hillside from garage. You are home!!! Note the last 7 miles is gravel and the last part is a pasture driveway. Remote country vacation.

About Lori Johnson
My father and step mother purchased the ranch in 1998 to enjoy the wonderful fishing and hunting this region has to offer. It provided them with both crop land and grassland for grazing. The views from the hillside of the 50 mile long and 3 mile wide Oahe Reservoir on the Missouri River are breathtaking.

Why Lori Johnson chose Pierre
Our younger years were spent in the bustling city of Minneapolis. Privacy and wide open spaces drew us here. My father loved to fish walleye. The abundance of large walleye in the Missouri River made it an easy choice. And then there is the pheasant, dove, deer, goose and duck hunting. They had so many friends and family visiting and enjoying the area that we decided to open a lodge in 2015 for others to enjoy. The Lodge is owned by RIP B & B LLC.
What makes this House unique
A favorite day would be to go fishing and come back for breakfast. Then a drive around the ranch to check the cattle and crops. The drive also allowed us to see deer, coyote, fox, ducks, geese, pheasant, hawks, owls, ground hogs and other wildlife too. A walk to the river for a swim in the summer. Fall would mean a hunting outing for whatever was in season. Spring would mean time to fix fence. If time permitted, a cookout on the shoreline at night or picnic dinner enjoying the sounds of nature. Star gazing without the interference of lights is wonderful out here. When the northern lights appear they are vivid green, red and yellow.
