La Bergerie is a stroll from the village restaurant, commerces and medieval centre.

Whatever your holiday dreams, the location of La Bergerie can fulfill them.
Le Pouget is steeped in history. Its' medieval centre hosts an vibrant street festival of music, theatre, food and wine in mid-August. In the surrounding hills ancient ruins overlook the village and beside the children's farm there is an ancient Dolmen.
The dinosaur museum at Mèze hosts many remains of dinosaurs and eggs found in the region but if that's going back a bit too far in history for you why not head up the nearby A 75 to the templar village of La Couvertoirade.
Why not pass a Sunday morning at Mèze. ( 24km) Soak up the atmosphere of the lively market and then head back to a little port-side café and watch the world go by Then head off to nearby Bouzigues and take a guided tour of the oyster beds followed by a tasting.
Or why not hire a boat at Agde and head-off down the Canal du Midi for an afternoon. For children there's funparks and amusements of Cap d'Agde.
If this all a little too calm for you head off to the rapids in the gorges north of the historical and picturesque St Guilhem le Desert (16km).Or hire your watersports equipement at the Lac du Salagou ( 19km). Mountain bikes are also available to hire to explore the strange copper-coloured landscape that surrounds the lake.
The historical market towns of Clermont L'herault ( 7km) and Pezenas are close-by (18km) the pottery village of St Jean de Fos now boasts a great museum and hosts a great pottery market every August.
Late summer and early autumn the village is animated by the harvesting of the grapes. The heady odours waft over to the gîte and the village streets are stained red with the overspill of the convoy to the cave .Down at the cave you can witness the initial crushing of the grapes in enormous vats. The village is set in the midst of vineyards and the autumn foliage on the vines is a breathtaking mixture of red, yellow and orange. The village has many beautiful hilltop walks with panoramic views of the L'Hérault countryside.
On the first two sundays of March the village hosts a magnificent carnaval with enormous, colourful floats pulled by the winegrower's tractors.
Thanks to the village location of La Bergerie a taste of real french village life is on the doorstep. However due to its' calm setting in large gardens La Bergerie is also a haven of peace.
Upon arrival at La Bergerie the on-sight owners will provide you with a welcome pack to make sure that you make the most of this beatiful, varied region. You are assured of privacy in your independant gîte but can be reassured that they are happy to help you with any of your queries such as babysitting services, doctors, etc.

Great location and helpful hosts

The gite is positioned really well for exploring this spectacular region. Easy to get to the sea, the Canal du Midi and the medieval villages and gorges in the Cevennes. The house was spacious and lovely to come back to the pool after a long day. The kitchen was very well equipped, English TV was an undxprcted bonus and Pat and Fintan were so helpful.

Beautiful, restful property in a stunning location

We cannot recommend this property highly enough: the space, indoor and outdoor, the pool (a huge hit with our children) the sense of relaxation is immense, aided by the very pleasant contact with Pat, Fintan and Michelle. The area is stunning with so much to do and see, and Michelle was in hand with additional bits of information re: restaurants and events. Truly lovely, easygoing hosts, lovely chats, a lovely property in an outstandingly beautiful area. We lived everything about our two week stay and would LOVE to return.

Home from Home!

Had a fabulous and relaxing stay at this lovely property. The owners can’t do more to make your stay enjoyable and are incredibly helpful. There is everything you could need in the property. We like to cook and the kitchen was very well equipped There is so much to do in this area that I think we need to come back out of season when it is cooler to do some of the incredible walks and towns. Mèze and Marseillan Plage were great for the kids. Pézenas was a nice Friday evening out. Hiring a pedalo on Lac Salagou was also fantastic. The highlight was canoeing 14km down L’Herault on Michelle’s recommendation. It’s a fun ride, exhausting but so worth it. Rapids are pretty gentle - our 12 & 9 yr olds managed fine. To come back to the property and relax in the lovely pool just made it perfect. I really recommend both the property and the area for both couples and families.

An excellent holiday!

We spent just over 6 weeks here with our dog. Pat, Fintan, Michelle and Charlotte were so friendly, kind and helpful throughout particularly when we had our little medical and car contretemps! The property itself was totally ideal for us and our dog and he enjoyed playing with the delightful Nala. The position of the property in Le Pouget was ideal for visiting the area including Montpellier, Pezenas, At Guilhem le desert, Marseillan, Meze, Sete, Lac de Salagou. The village is surrounded by lovely dog walks through and above the vineyards. Not to mention the violin playing and free concerts by Michelle! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back. Many thanks to the Lalor family for a wonderful holiday. Beverly, David and Barney

Can not say enough about how lovely our time was, from the moment we arrived to our departure the hospitality was amazing and the cottage itself has everything you could possibly need and maybe more, we can not wait to go back. A rare gem .

Great property in a lovely location that exceeded our expectations.

Our family had a wonderful holiday, weather was fantastic, location was excellent. So much to see and do in this remarkable area. Walking, canoeing, sightseeing aplenty. Food great but perhaps more expensive than we had first thought. The property was excellent and we were well looked after by Pat Fentan and Michelle. The outside eating area and the BBQ were our favourites with evening meals not starting until after 8 o'clock and lasting until after 10! Beware the mossies though!!! The pool at the rear of the property kept the sun until nearly 9.00pm and was a very relaxing area with sunbeds, chairs and a handy table. The toilet and shower room was very modern and met our needs. There was ample space and the kitchen provided all you should need but perhaps a large bread knife and some larger glasses would noy have gone amiss. Saturday market in Pezanas is verytraditional but the small artisan shops there are exceptional. Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert was another stand out destination but very busy at weekends, great place to book your canoe trips. Exceptional walks at Cirque de Navacelles and Cirque de Moureze but beware the late afternoon heat it easily got into the mid 40's. I would definately go back.

Excellent, couldn't ask for more. Like home from home. Very friendly, clean, and comfortable

Owners were very friendly and helpful. They booked in advance for us a Christmas lunch at a lovely local restaurant. The place was very warm, and well equipped, including English TV, and DVD player. The bed was large and comfortable, and excellent large shower. We would definitely stay their again if in the area.

Restful, friendly, welcoming, fun, sincere.

We absolutely loved our 12 days at La Bergerie &, as the temperature when we arrived was something like 42C, we really appreciated the 10 metre pool where we spent a lot of time the first few days as had no energy in the extreme heat to do much else. The pool is now far better shaded & tiled than appears in this accompanying picture and is a very comfortable place to spend the afternoon with a good book and a swim every half hour or so. The gite itself is excellent with a very well equipped kitchen and a vital (for us) outdoor BBQ as we mostly ate outside in the evening when it was cool enough to do so. And very few, if any, mozzies! We got only a couple of minor bites whilst we were here despite me being usually a mozzie-magnet & an extreme reactor. The bed was fabulous! Large and firm & although we had the fan on most nights as the temperature was high, we slept amazingly well - better than at home. Fan noise was a bit like sleeping on a plane with a background engine noise which is somehow lulling. The shower was also excellent. I dream of a shower as good as this in my own home. We have stayed in this area 4 or 5 times now over the last 10 years (but not at La Bergerie before) & it never ceases to fascinate. Interesting cities like Montpellier, Narbonne, Sete, Agde, etc. within painless driving distance. Interesting towns like Meze, Clermont l'Herault, Pezenas nearby but also amazing geoligical formations. You can look them all up in your guide book. Pont de Diable is my favourite swimming as you can swim for kilometres down river very calmly. Lac de Salagou also amazing swimming but can get quite rough when windy. Most of all, we appreciated the company of the Lalor family, Fintan, Pat, Michelle & Charlotte, who own this gite. We usually go for very private places with no contact with the owners but think the Lalors may have changed our minds on this! We very much enjoyed our conversations with them and the ease with which they accept total strangers into their lives. EVEN IF, they didn't have their gorgeous dog Nala, the black Labrador, we would come back here. We can't have a dog ourselves so Nala was the perfect holiday dog. Never over-presumptuous but very interested, in a non-pushy way, in our evening BBQs. Well, OK, quite pushy when meat was involved. I am sure we will be back. Pam & Martin Roberts

Highly recommended

We had a lovely stay with Patricia and Fintan (and not forgetting Nala). The gite was just as described, well equipped, clean and beautifully maintained. Our children (14 and 10) had great fun in the pool and the village of Le Pouget, boasted a local restaurant whose food was hard to beat. The surrounding countryside, particularly St Guilhem, was well worth a visit. The local markets, including Meze, are all there within a 30 min drive and must do. A fantastic holiday, relaxing but with plenty of places to visit should you want to, with friendly hosts who were there when you needed to ask advice. Highly recommended.

Wonderful gite, welcoming hosts, perfect holiday

We visited the gite with our two daughters, aged 3y10m and 10m. We arrived late in the evening and Pat and Fintan had left us some food to prepare supper with which was much appreciated. The gite was spacious, clean and tidy and very well equipped. They have an excellent Ikea highchair for babies, a booster seat for toddlers and a proper wooden cot, which our daughter slept very well in. Plenty of towels and linen were provided, and over the course of the week we got to know Pat, Fin, Michelle, Charlotte and Patrick (not forgetting the loveable Nala!) and felt like part of the family. The pool is excellent, and plenty of chairs to sunbathe, not to mention inflatables, arm bands and a baby swim seat. Really family friendly gite, would definitely come back. Lots of amenities locally in Le Pouget - post office, bakers, butchers, shop, restaurants, bars, park, tennis courts etc. We visited Montpellier, Nimes, Sete, Meze, Circule de Navacelles, St Guilhem le Desert and plenty of other lovely places in between. I would definitely recommend the gite to anyone, and especially those with children. Thank you Pat and Fintan for a great week!

Our winter getaway

Our second 6 week winter stay only confirms how perfect our choice was in selecting this accommodation for our stays in France. Situated with easy access to both the mountains and the coast, it provides an ideal base for exploring the Languedoc region. In the summer we could imagine how perfect this accommodation would be with the potential of outside dining and a private swimming pool. As other guests report, the family go out of their way to make you welcome and nothing is too much trouble to ensure that you have a perfect stay. This is in addition to good, clean accommodation with all the facilities you could want for both summer and winter stays. Our second trip has been as perfect as our first and we hope that we will enjoy many more winter stays with Pat, Finton, Michelle, Charlotte and not forgetting Nala our dog's best Labrador friend.

Happy Days!

After a lovely relaxing week in La Pouget with Finton, Pat & Michelle we could not recommend this gite highly enough. We have arrived home very chilled - just what we needed, both having enjoyed some quality time with each other spent in a peaceful setting. Set in a quiet tranquil village, their lovely property is finished to a high standard, everything one would need was available - a home from home. Everyone was very helpful and informative, making my stay here with my mum extra special and memorable - Thankyou! Even though we came without a car, it certainly didn't hinder us. With the help of some direction, well connected local buses and taxis took us to many traditional local towns and sights. We would highly recommend staying at this property! A big thankyou for such a lovely week away, we will remember this forever. Mandy & Scarlett (Gloucestershire, UK)

Charming and cozy apartment in a delightful villag

We had a wonderful time at Pat and Fintan's gite in Le Pouget. Everything was in perfect order - neat and clean - and lots of information was available for all the things to do in the region, so all we had to do was pick and choose! The village is quiet and quaint, with shopping, and dining within walking distance. The hosts were very helpful and kind - available anytime we needed them. I would heartily recommend this vacation apartment - it was one of the best holidays we've ever had!

A wonderful place to be!

A very nice house with everything you need for a perfect stay. Superb for 2-4 persons to relax and enjoy the holidays. Within 30 minutes by car you will be in the mountains with Lac du Salagou or St. Guilhem le Desert in the "Gorge de l'Herault" par example. In about 40 minutes you are on the beaches or the bigger towns (Sète, Meze, Montpellier, Beziers). The best of all are the very friendly and helpful owner Pat and Finton, who lives on the other side of the house. We and our 2 dogs enjoyed every moment to be in this Location in Le Pouget!!!

Beautiful and quiet holiday house

Our family stayed at the Bergerie last week and really did enjoy it. The house is very well equipped, clean and comfortable, the kitchen has everything what is needed, the bathroom is nice and practical. The house is ideally situated in the rural and quiet countryside but the coast, towns, mountains and lakes are at an hour distance. Within a day you can explore and visit the different parts of the Languedoc: sea, lakes, mountains, and do very pleasant walkings and visit the beautiful old towns and villages. Unfortunately, we could not enjoy the large, immaculate pool because of the weather. Within walking distance you can find some small little shops and in the nearby towns of Clermont l'Herault you can find fresh fish, vegetables and everything you need for self-catering. The owners are very nice, discreet and always helpful and we were really happy to have found this place to stay.

Le Pouget holiday

Nice newly converted property with a very nice shower room and kitchen/diner. Well appointed clean pool to sunbathe round with plenty of loungers. Very friendly owners who visited us regulary to make sure everything was OK. Also had drinks with them and their family on the last day. Le Pouget has more facilities than is immediately obvious and as this is our third visit to the area we are gradually finding them all. A nice area to get away from it all. Edward

About the host

Hosted by Fintan and Patricia Lalor

Host profile image
We retired in France to be near our daughter and grand-daughter.
Michelle, our daughter , heard about this house on the 'grapevine'! It was hiding away in an abandoned overgrown garden. We've been very busy renovating it and putting in the pool. Never a dull moment!
We don't regret moving here for a minute.
We love welcoming our guests, going to Montpellier or the market in Mèze by the sea, on Sunday mornings. We often.pop over the border to Spain and we never get bored following our daughter's ineteresting musical career in the region. You can't beat sitting out on the terrace on a summer's evening listening to the crickets and unusual birdsong.. Life is good!

Why they chose this property

We chose Le Pouget , like our daughter, for it's great situation. It's in the centre of all the best that the region has to offer: coastline, mountains, gorges, lakes, city - everything is just a short hop away but meanwhile there are wonderful walks surrounding the village. The village has plenty of amenties, so if you want a lazy break you really don't have to move your car all holiday!
Furthermore, if you are a keen cyclist , like our daughter, you will be spoilt choice .Michelle , regularly heads off for 100km treks up and down the local peaks and she has a great knowledge of the best cycling routes that this beautiful, varied region has to offer all year round.

What makes this property unique

We fell in love with la Bergerie as soon as the owner swung the gates open and we looked up the long, treelined driveway. A secret garden in the centre of the village! It was love at first sight!
