Gathering for family wedding
Perfect place for family to gather for son’s wedding and host a large rehearsal dinner.
The rental house had everything you needed and more.
Great spot for family reunion
We had a wonderful stay and the home fit our large group perfectly. Christine was a terrific host and was very accommodating to our needs. The home is lovely, and the property has some exquisite mature trees around the grounds. We would come back again in a heartbeat!
Dear Lynne - We really enjoyed hosting you for your family reunion! You were a great organizer! We would love to have you back anytime!
Best wishes - Christine
Clean and spacious
My family has a tradition of renting a different house every year in different locations for a family reunion. We enjoyed the many spacious indoor and outdoor gathering spaces this property had to offer. There was a big deck with ample seating for us all, two big indoor living rooms and a covered porch. The kitchen was big and easy to cook in.
I would advise anyone considering this property for a big group to read the rental agreement and property guidelines carefully. The owner is thorough and strict in her adherence to these guidelines. For instance, after we had booked the property, my adult son and his partner decided to join us. It cost us $175 extra for them to sleep on an air mattress on the floor.
Also, we had additional family members staying at a hotel in the area. In order for these two couples to join us for dinner only on several nights, we had to book an "event" at an additional cost of $250.
Aside from our surprise at such strict enforcement (something we had not encountered in our 30-year traditioniof renting houses), the space worked out well for us to hold our gathering.
We enjoyed having you and your family. Sorry you were not happy about the additional guest fees. We do state on VRBO/Homeaway that we sleep up to 14 guests at the property. And we can provide for more; however, as most other home owners/hosts/hotels either cannot accommodate more guests or they also charge for additional guests. We also state on the VRBO/Homeaway website that if there are more than 14 guests, the guest should contact us if they would like to host an event at the Auberge.
Wonderful spot for a relaxing weekend anniversary gathering
Beautiful, well-appointed home with plenty of bedrooms for friends/family to spend the night. Since we had good weather, the deck was perfect for most of our gathering, but the function room made a nice spot for guitar playing in the evening. I was a little worried about noise from the road, but with music and lots of conversations found it didn't diminish our enjoyment of the deck at all. Thanks for your hospitality!

Welcome to my New England Colonial retreat in the "Quiet Corner" of northeastern Connecticut. I purchased this former bed & breakfast, lovingly furnished this beautiful country estate and now want to share this peaceful space with others to enjoy. I hope all my guests find the Auberge at Feather Hill a relaxing place to be inspired & rejuvenated!
Christine purchased this Chateau / Country House in 2015
Why Christine chose Pomfret
Location & New England Attractions: Auberge at Feather Hill is located in the northeastern corner of Connecticut, called the “Quiet Corner” of New England, in Pomfret, Connecticut. Within a short drive, you’ll find fresh fruit and vegetable stands, orchards, vineyards, historic towns, art galleries, renowned antique markets and shops, abundant lakes and streams, and several state parks. The State of Connecticut "Airline Trail" offers 50 miles of hiking, biking and horse riding trails and is accessible from the backyard of the estate and the Mashamoquet State Park and the Audubon Sanctuary are 1 mile away. You can also drive a short distance to the Storrs Adventure Park, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos, wineries, distilleries, and golf courses. New England is famous for its glorious foliage as billions of leaves change from green to a kaleidoscope of colors. The air is crisp and cool — perfect for hiking, biking or a classic drive along back roads, where farm stands are piled high with crunchy apples and orange pumpkins. Pomfret, CT and the region is also recognized for their excellent and prestigious private day and boarding schools, including the Rectory School, Marianapolis Prep School, Pomfret School, Hyde School, Putnam Science Academy, and Woodstock Academy. Also, close by are the University of Connecticut and Eastern CT State University. Ideal location for day trips to Boston, Hartford, Providence, Mystic, Newport & New York City. The estate is easily accessible from a main roadway 101/44 and is 6 miles distance from Interstate 395.
What makes this Chateau / Country House unique
Other Things to Note: For History Buffs - The Indian name for Pomfret was “Mashamoquet” meaning “great fishing place”. The land was purchased from the Indians in 1686. Pomfret was incorporated in 1713. The Town was named after Governor Saltonstall’s estate Pontefract (meaning broken bridge) in Yorkshire, England and celebrated its 300th anniversary throughout 2013! The Abington Congregational Church built in 1751 is the oldest church in continuous use in Connecticut. The Brayton Mill at the entrance to Mashamoquet Brook State Park is an early mill site. The Old Town House built in 1841 has served for town meetings, elections, and social affairs. The Pomfret School was founded in 1894 as a boarding school for young men. The Rectory School opened in 1920. Both still serve as private schools. A ride down Pomfret Street presents an impressive display of the historical buildings. The Abington Social Library (1813) is the oldest active library in America formed by women. Famous residents have included Israel Putnam (Major General in the Revolutionary War), James A. MacNeill Whistler (artist), Louise Chandler Moulton (poet), and Robert Hillyer (poet). Pomfret is served by two post offices and a number of important local businesses. The Town continues to maintain its agricultural heritage with many “green” initiatives, well over 1,000 acres of preserved open space, and many miles of accessible trail networks.
