We live in St Louis, MO and try to get down to the beach as often as possible. This isn't just a rental property. It is our vacation townhouse and we have furnished and equipped it like our home. We do not own any other properties and we make sure that our beach townhouse is as nice as it can be.

We purchased our townhouse because it is such a great location. It is very quiet and undeveloped. It is one of the few places that you can find a beautiful beach that is not crowed with high rise condos and hotels. The surrounding area is charmimg with great restaurants and the locals are very outgoing and friendly.

What makes this townhome unique

You will enjoy being right on the beach in a very private setting. The development is very small, only 3 buildings, and the pool is right on the beach. The fishing is great from the shore and you can catch crabs in the bayou. Both bedrooms have king size beds and the townhouse is like home.

Nice location

The owner communicated well and promptly. The location is great, right on the beach albeit a little back but that's fine with me. The place itself has its flaws but overall a solid unit for the price especially for beachfront.

Wonderful winter retreat

Our February winter getaway was amazing. We found the property description accurate and perfect for our vacation. It was clean and ready when we arrived. The view was breathtaking. The bed was very comfortable, and the sound of the water was so relaxing. The owner was available and responsive to any questions and immediately helped fix a small problem with the TV. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone who wants a quiet, relaxing vacation spot. We loved the pet friendly environment of the whole area. We enjoyed the walk in Port St. Joe that goes around the marina, through town, and down the bike path. We enjoyed a bike ride in Cape San Blas and a horseback ride on the beach. A fun destination we took several times was to Apalachicola and then to Saint George Island over the second longest bridge in Florida. Our two favorite places to eat were the Wood Fired Pizza in Port St. Joe and Tamara's Café in Apalachicola. Of course, walking on the beach is always a privilege. Our vacation exceeded our expectations, and we look forward to returning next year to the exact same spot. For those with pets, our dog highly recommends this vacation, as well.

Dated but doable

If you are looking for a place where you can feel comfortable with kids and dogs, this is it. The beach was perfect, the pool was a comfortable area, and since the bayou was running low, we had no beach access issues although I have heard from others that this can be a problem. I saw negative reviews before our arrival and communicated with the owner prior to our trip. He traveled to the unit and was in town when we arrived. I walked the unit with him and requested a few things be repaired/replaced and he handled them in a very timely fashion. The unit is dated and definitely needs some repairs but it was clean and the owner was nice and handled the issues I addressed. He stated that he has plans to address some more major repair issues this Fall and I pointed out the issues I felt should definitely be updated if he planned to continue to charge his current rental price.

Overall, we had a great week. I feel that the price should have been a bit lower because of the lack of updates and I advised that he update his photos but we loved the area and had a wonderful vacation. I know for a fact that the refrigerator and washing machine were worked on, the internet issues were addressed, and the unit was cleaned because it happened while I was there. I also know that debris from the back porch was removed and all new sheets and pillows and a grill were purchased because this happened at the beginning of our stay.

While the unit may not have been as nice as I had anticipated for the price, we made great memories, we met great people, and we were comfortable during our stay.

Not Worth It

Before I arrived, I asked the owner about the negative reviews & he assured me the only issue was kitchen cabinet. If only that were the only issue! He responds to reviews with the excuse that no one contacted him during their stay. There is nothing he could have done to fix that trainwreck. The couch was so gross, we put down towels, but it smelled awful. Twice while watching TV, my nephew had a thick spider crawl out of the couch and onto him. i had to wash my sheets the first night before I could sleep b/c the bed was so sandy. Both shower curtains were moldy & had holes. The kitchen was too nasty to cook in. The light on the balcony facing the beach didn't work. The washer is so old and loud, we had to yell to hear each other when it was on. Take reallllly quick showers because you get about 3 minutes of warm water. All the light fixtures were full of dead bugs. The refrigerator door won't shut completely so we lost the first round of groceries. There is paint peeling everywhere. The furniture is beyond outdated. There is a pile of unusable junk on the lower patio-chairs, broken beach toys, etc.

While not the fault of the owner, be aware that the wifi is spotty in the unit and cell service is only available on the front porch and occasionally.

The beach was very nice. I will definitely return to the area but will steer clear of this place.

Property was great

Well, where do I begin.. the beach, pool and people were awesome, but the interior was horrendous. It's was filthy.. furniture needs to be thrown out.. found bugs, cabinets need to be redone.. refrigerator washer dryer filthy. We had to throw a sheet on couch just to sit on it.. come on, get some furniture where you can whip it down. the cleaning service is awful. Beds were not even made up good.. buddy your getting ripped off with them, just as we feel ripped off with all the filth. We were able to see other units which were nice.. We will not be staying here ever again.. that's a shame, the beach was great, pool marvelous, and pet friendly. We even had our dog clean for the owner.. but hey, if you don't care about your tenants then you will lose business.. I'm already booking for next year two doors down! Someone needs to check this place out and clean it up. It also needs to be reported.. cabinet door off the hinges, do I need to go on.. it was filthy, and of course we want get our money back... so sad that it took us a long time to save for this vacay. Only to be disappointed with the filth..

Owner's Response: Let me start by saying that the kitchen cabinets need to be replaced and I plan on doing that this fall. The guests never contacted me to let me know that they had any problem whatsoever. If they had, I would have sent my cleaners back over to take care of whatever issues they had. They contacted me once about a problem with the TV in the master bedroom and I called Mediacon immediately and had the issue resolved the next day. They never told me that they had any other issues. Now they want me to give them a free week at my property in order for them to change their review. It feels like they are trying to extort a free vacation from me. I am very sorry that the unit was not cleaned to their standards and I would have done whatever I needed to do to make it right. Unfortunately, they never gave me the chance and they are now trying to strongarm me into giving them something for nothing. It really is sad.

I thought I had found the perfect vacation spot but I was wrong. The pictures on the website are outdated....the owner even said so after several text/email exchanges. My family and I arrived to the residence to find the place dirty even though the cleaner had just been there. The kitchen cabinets were delaminating. There were rust spots in the bathroom ceilings. The beds were uncomfortable. Dust was all over the features, stains on the bedding, pillow cases that didn't fit the pillows, hairs on the pillow cases, bugs inside the unit and an overall musty smell of the place.

It is reported that there is a small area of runoff water to cross to get the ocean but that is COMPLETELY FALSE! The water is run-off from the bayou that is besides the property. The owner will tel you that the bayou has recently changed; however, it has been this way for a few years. We had to walk down four steps, slide in the sand, and wade through knee high mucky water to get to the beach. It was VERY unsafe. We had multiple permanent resident neighbor's approach us as after they saw us walking through the thigh high water to warn us of alligators and crabs. They indicated that it had been that way for several months, not just recent rain fall. The alligator lived on a small area of land about 400m from the beach and had been seen by one of the concerned bystanders that morning while they were kayaking.

We arrived Saturday and left Monday morning. We DID NOT contact the owner before we left because we realized there was nothing we could do to improve the stay. I 100% take full responsibility for not contacting him. When we did contact him after retiring home took multiple days to respond. He stated that he had to see the place first and would be in contact. I had to contact him multiple times to ask for a refund. In the end he WOULD NOT return my texts and ultimately would not refund ANY money. I was willing to pay for the 2 nights stayed and the cleaning fee. I had a representative contact him on my behalf to see if he would be open to talk to him and he was rude and disrespectful. Ultimately, he hung up on the person.

I wanted a great vacation and thought i had found the perfect place. I was extremely disappointed and saddened that were were misinformed and were not given a refund of the hard earned money we spent.

Owner's Response: I am very sorry that your stay did not live up to your expectations. If you had contacted me, I would have done anything in my power to have corrected any deficiencies. As for the cleaning issues, I would have sent my cleaner back out to clean whatever needed to be cleaned to your satisfaction. I could have also told you about the footbridge over the bayou that is 3 houses down. Unfortunately, a tropical storm had been through the area the week before your arrival and that made the bayou flow much greater than usual. We are currently working on getting permits from the Department of Environmental Protection, the US Army Corp of Engineers and the State of Florida to redirect the flow of the bayou. It did shift several months ago and we are working to correct it back to its original path. Unfortunately, the wheels of government are very slow turning. Once we have secured the necessary permits, Gulf County is planning on working with us to maintain the proper path for the bayou. When your friend called me, he stated that he was an attorney and that he was going to file suit against me. I did not hang up on him. I would have done everything possible to resolve the issues, but you never gave me the chance. I also was not given the opportunity to re rent the unit once you left. You didn't even contact me request a refund until your rental week was over.
