Nice place to stay but needs some improvements.
This home has been nicely remodeled and has an excellent location in a quiet, safe neighborhood. A few minutes walk and you can access a park right on the ocean. There were however a few things that could be improved. The washer & dryer were not working when we stayed and are located in the basement which is shared with another tenant. The deck and backyard are also shared so you can't count on utilizing these with a large family. The wifi was unusually slow, I tested and got 10 mbps down and 100 up which are odd speeds. Normally download is faster than upload. The kitchen was also missing some essentials including scissors, cooking oil, and aluminum foil. Lastly the trash pail in the kitchen was broken. With some clearer communication in the listing about shared spaces and some other small changes this could easily be a 4-5 star rated VRBO.

Could have been great, but wasn't!
This property COULD have been great if the property managers didn't gas light us for 3 days. We rented this space as we were a group of 6 and it was a new listing with a great price AND we knew we were coming during a hot weekend in Victoria so we specifically looked for a space with AIR CONDITIONING. We arrived to the house and we actually quite pleased with the decor, look and feel of the space. As we settled in, we got warm almost immediately, the temp quickly rose to 83 so we went to the thermostat to turn on the AC. We waited, then waited then waited. No AC turned on, no air movement coming out of the vents, it did not get cooler. As this was the first day we messaged the host and they said they'd look into it. To make a long story short, they first accused us of not knowing how to use the AC, THEN they said they'd send someone over to check the AC which they then said it was functioning correctly, BUT they dropped of TWO box fans which we then had to assemble with NO TOOLS (butter knife came in handy). We then visually checked around the house to confirm if there was indeed an AC unit outside, there wasn't, despite the hosts saying there was (they wouldn't tell us where it was). Over the course of the weekend we texted, emailed and had an actual call with the hosts and each time they either said it was working (it wasn't), we didn't know how to use the ac (we know how to work a thermostat) that there was an AC unit (there wasn't) and then they insisted sometimes AC units don't work when it's hot (pardon?) In the end they said 74-76 degrees was in fact ideal temperature for people to be comfortable in and that there was nothing more they could do for us. We would have happily understood if they said the AC was broken and they said they'd drop off some fans to hopefully make our stay more comfortable, but instead they insisted we were ignorant, unable to use an imaginary AC and that during a heat wave AC units shut down. Could have been great, but in the end it wasn't. ALSO in regards to the initial impression of the place we quickly realized this place was just flipped quick to be rented out. Quick vinyl countertop stickers used to change counters, cheap beds (our slats kept falling out which made the mattress drop as we were sleeping), quick coats of paint and blinds literally taped to the window with packing tape . Lipstick on a pig for an investment property is what this is.

Has potential, but fell short of expectations
This property has some really good qualities, but overall very shoddy renovations (including safety concerns) left an underwhelming impression. When issues were brought up with the owner the response was "thank you for understanding this is an old house". The old house was lovely, very charming. Our concerns were with the new renovations. Pros: - separation of space for two families - bright windows and big living spaces - great location, quiet street, close to ocean coves - everything you need walking distance into Esquimalt Cons: - safety concerns (particularly if you have small children); windows upstairs are low enough to access with no screens and old locks, floor is uneven and there is a lip into one bedroom that is 2 inches high -- NO red tape or other warning, granddaughter stubbed her toe and tripped headlong into the bed frame in the room leaving a big goose egg and bruising - accessibility issues - narrow staircase to the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom should be mentioned - very shoddy renovations included: shower upstairs leaking a puddle of water on the floor, new kitchen sink tap falling forward into the sink, new bathtub drain plug not working (we couldn't bathe our children), cheap dollar store shower curtain liner was ripped, curtain rod in dining room that would come down if pulled, paper "curtain" in upstairs bathroom applied with packing tape (kept falling off), dishwasher doesn't work I feel like this property was rushed to market; if these issues are addressed then this would be a property worth renting. But as it stands, we would not stay here again.

Great hosts at a great property. We appreciated the quick and responsive communication with them.
The property is located in a nice quiet residential community. It is conveniently located within walking distance to a few grocery stores and restaurants. Many attractions are just a quick short drive away. We found the property itself was quite clean, spacious, and very comfortable with four bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Our family appreciated all the amenities that were provided at the property. We would stay here again on future visits to the Victoria area. Thank you Matt and Sarah for hosting us.
