I'm sorry that this situation has occurred, and it is unfortunate to share such an experience that I had with one of my recent guests because they violated the house rules. Before I divulge into this particular experience, I'd like to share that I have been a host since 2009 and have never had an experience like this one. I strive to be a generous and considerate host, opening my home to travelers while making my home your "home away from home." This is evident by the multiple other positive reviews from guests I've hosted over the past decade. On the VRBO website, the rules clearly state that no large gatherings are permitted. In addition, per VRBO policies, guests who violate the house rules can be asked to vacate the premises without a refund . Soon after Pilar arrived, I received excessive "Ring" notifications on my device and discovered that a catering van, tables, and chairs were being delivered to the property. There were also over twenty people accessing the property, as well as 4-5 cars parked in the driveway. These actions all violated the house rules. My neighbors saw the catering van parked in the driveway which is why they asked Pilar about it, they know that my cottage is on VRBO and that large gatherings are against the house rules. Discovering these violations, I then attempted to contact Pilar multiple times, through the VRBO site, but was unsuccessful. I then contacted VRBO directly and they were able to reach Pilar via cell phone. During a three-way call with VRBO, I explained the house rules- which are also found on the website-regarding large gatherings. Pilar was given the option to either cancel the event or vacate the premises. Rather than abide by the house rules, Pilar became argumentative and defensive. She called me racist because she was "brown" and "heartless because I disregarded the memorial ceremony she was having for her brother." I then informed Pilar that I, myself, am also brown as a first generation Latina and that my concern is with her violating the house rules that are explicitly listed on the VRBO website. In addition, she also accused me of spying, most likely due to the security ring device that is installed outside the front door and, per VRBO rules this ring device in noted on the website. While I empathize with Pilar regarding the loss of her brother, the house rules are clearly states and must be followed. I am very sorry that this incident occurred. Thank you, Maggie

Hi Robin! Thank you for staying with us. I'm sorry for the short comings you experienced. The rates did not update here on Vrbo and we do apologize for that surprise, this is not common practice for us and apologize it happened to you. We did offer you a full refund should you not want to pay the increased rate. I'm Neil- the 24/7 full time local property manager for Maggies house in Laguna. She does help and communicate with guests too. Im sorry for any confusion, VRBO does not have any "co-host" feature to differentiate who you're talking to. To make communication easy all of our guests including you receive my personal cell phone number for fast seamless communication. We have working wifi (300MB/s) and I varied you did receive the wifi instructions upon check in. The TV has both cable and wifi.
