The Space:

With the ocean beach, the Manzanita Links, and Nehalem Bay State Park all located within blocks, this home is a wonderful base for relaxation, a little activity, and daily explorations of the beautiful Northern Oregon Coast.



This two-level home backs up to a dense thicket of trees, offering you privacy and lovely scenery when you're sitting outside on the deck. Inside, you'll find the main living space on the second floor, where a mix of carpet and tile, plentiful windows, and an open layout create a bright and inviting atmosphere. When you walk home from the beach in the afternoon, you can leave the day's swimsuits in the stackable washer/dryer, bring a cold drink outside to the deck, or pile on the sofa in the warmth of the gas fireplace if the fog has already started to move in.



The kitchen is open to the living room, offering every essential appliance, a peninsula bar counter, and a view of the flatscreen TV to enjoy as you cook. Once you've wrapped up dinner at the adjacent table, you'll have board games, Netflix, and free WiFi to entertain you. My friend and I wanted a place to stay where we could work on art projects and take beeaks to walk. The whole upstairs was roomy and full of light. We loved the very interesting collection of books to read. The kitchen had plenty of work spaces and was equipped with just the right amount of gadgets (and spices!) Very quiet and beach accessible as well as close to town eateries. We had a hard time figuring out the logic of the heating and cooling and fan so more instructions would be good. We had trouble with the check in code but really, the "help" phone number was GREAT and we loved being able to get immediate human assistance! We were prepared ahead of time for the layout via the listing specs but the stairs were somewhat difficult for 75 year olds. Overall a big yes. We would certainly recomend!

Week at Captains Quarters

Tucked in a forest setting with the sound of the ocean - it was a nice, quiet spot to relax and enjoy time away from home. The little gated area was perfect for our dogs, close to beach access - we saw 3 deer walking to the beach. House has a great art collection to enjoy and the open space of living, dining and kitchen was appreciated.

Great home, close to the beach.

Easy walk to the beach. It was perfect for our family of 4, my husband and I and 2 teenage daughters. The cookware was a bit lacking, no skillet pan, only a small cutting board and knives were pretty limited. The house was very clean.

All-around great stay

Our week stay was great, and the property was just enough space for the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 teens) + dog. Lots of towels and dishware, nice big living room with big TV/lots of channels to choose from, great having a washer/dryer available too! The deck overlooks a wooded area with lovely Jurassic-sized plants below, and you can hear the ocean three blocks away. The only negatives we experienced was not being able to get the stove to turn on, and looking everywhere for a dustpan (finally found it tucked behind the garbage can). There's a scattering of pots and pans, and they could use an upgrade (Teflon was pretty scratched up in one pot). The pantry could use a bottle of cooking oil or at least shortening, but otherwise it covered the basics. The living area is up a set of stairs - they're not steep, but there's a lot of them, so definitely not ADA-compliant or friendly to people with mobility issues. The deck didn't really get used at all, so no feedback on the grill. Bring bug spray. We dug the art work!

Dirty Sheets will make anyone second guess their VRBO choice

1st disappointment: I pulled the covers down on the upstairs bed to go to sleep and noticed what looked like blood stains and hair on the sheets. I threw them in the wash and since there wasn't another set of sheets, I ended up sleeping between different coverlets. After washing the sheets and finding them to be clean - it was obvious that the sheets just weren't laundered. Yuck!!!! 2nd: There were no towels in the upstairs bathroom. 3rd: There were little to no cleaning supplies for dishes. Which is I guess why so many of the dishes were dirty. 4th: Netflix didn't work. 5th: There wasn't any kind of communication on the app or in the house that explained anything or welcomed us to the home. We were pretty much left to just figure things out, which is just unwelcoming and frustrating. 6th: When I called Vacasa to get help with all of the above they didn't even acknowledge my complaint about the sheets/dishes. They also told me that everything I needed to know about the TV, etc. was in the app or email that I got. (It wasn't.) They are obviously a large company and not local but are running a bunch of local vacation houses in the area. My first suggestion would be for the home owner to work with a different company. The handyman that Vacasa sent to help was super friendly and brought us towels and sponges and tried to fix netflix (but to no avail). Besides that - we still had fun but will not use Vacasa again.

Nice stop for family getaway

Short walk to beach, the state Park or into town. Lots of common space for gathering and playing games. Very welcoming to our family dog!

Clean and tidy

This property was clean and well cared for. Perfect for our weekend crabbing adventure. Took us a minute to figure out how to work the shower lol (pull down on the tub spout) Other than that it was wonderful.

Calming & quiet

We spent a week in this beach retreat and it was exactly what we needed. Just a 2 block walk to the ocean. The house was well suited for our family and the little fenced yard for the dog was a nice surprise.

Needs some attention

The kitchen had almost no silverware, and though there’s a bbq, there are no tools to grill with. The beds are fine, but know that the twins are on the first floor, and there’s a steep staircase to the rest of the house. So not a good choice if young kids need to be near adults. The deck in the trees is lovely and the surf was high, so we could hear it roar.

Pleasant place to stay

We very much enjoyed our stay at this house. It's in a great location walking distance to the ocean and national park, as well as a short drive to Manzanita. The house itself is lovely, surrounded by trees and spacious inside. We look forward to another visit there.

Great Place to Stay in Manzanita!

Our family really enjoyed this rental home close to the state park & walking distance to the beach. Very clean and great kitchen & bedrooms. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to enjoy the beautiful deck surrounded by lots of trees, so we'll try next time!
