About this property
Luxury Holiday Cottage in the Heart of the English Lake District
PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT ACCEPT CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 7. ONE SMALL DOG CONSIDERED ON REQUEST. SORRY, NO CATS.
Troutbeck Cottage is a supremely comfortable lakeland cottage which combines contemporary features and state-of-the art facilities within a traditional stone-built Lakeland terraced cottage. It is located at Troutbeck Bridge, in the heart of the Lake District close to Windermere just off the main road to Ambleside and Grasmere.
The cottage provides comfortable and homely self-catering accommodation for up to three guests. The property is ideal for couples and small families looking for a relaxing break and offers the perfect base from which to explore this outstanding part of England. We have a Visit England Four Star Gold Award rating.
The cottage is particularly suitable for those traveling to the Lake District without a car. Troutbeck Bridge is a short bus or taxi ride away from Windermere Station where there are regular trains from Oxenholme, connecting with the main routes between London and Glasgow/Edinburgh. There is a bus stop at the end of our street with regular services to Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere, Keswick and Kendal.
The accommodation consists of a lounge with wood-burning stove, a compact but well equipped dining kitchen room and two ensuite bedrooms. The lounge is furnished with traditional seating and period-style, quality furniture. We provide unlimited fibre internet access, a widescreen 40″ Samsung 4k TV with Netflix, Now with Sky Movies, Discovery+ and a Dolby 5.1 surround sound speaker system. There is a UHD/Blu-ray player and a CD player with DAB/FM/Internet radio. There is a good selection of books, CDs and videos and general information covering the Lake District.
Also on the ground floor is a fitted dining kitchen which is well equipped with an electric induction hob and oven, microwave, dishwasher, washer/dryer and fridge/freezer. There is a comprehensive range of Villeroy & Boch porcelain, cutlery and glassware.
Upstairs, the main double bedroom at the front of the cottage has views towards Claife Heights in the distance. A standard size double bed is provided. The bedroom has reproduction French-style period furniture and an en-suite shower room. This bedroom has a bright and airy feel to it which is complemented by the exposed beam and period furnishings. The second bedroom has a single bed and also has an en-suite shower room. Both bedrooms have wall-mounted Samsung TVs. All bedlinen is included.
The marble-tiled en-suite shower rooms have digital electronic shower valves, heated towel rails and Christy Egyptian-cotton towels and complimentary toiletries.
Gas central heating is installed with radiators in all rooms.
Outside there is a small seating area to the front of the cottage which faces south and is a real sun trap. At the rear, there is a shared courtyard leading to the open fields and fells beyond. Within the rear courtyard, Troutbeck Cottage has its own allocated parking space for one vehicle.
Please note that we have a no-smoking policy. The cottage is not well suited for dog owners due to space limitations but we will consider taking 1 small dog on request - please enquire before booking. Sorry, we do not accept cats.

Property was immaculate and great added touches like the welcome pack with biscuits and wine. Hosts communicated quickly as we booked this last minute. Great location to explore the area Will definitely be back
A delighted little cottage in the heart of the lakes near to amenities and very peaceful. Great to have the outdoor space on a sunny afternoon. Well appointed and newly furnished. Great welcome pack and information on local activities
Amazingly well maintained property, has all the facilities, I have been to many, but this property by far was one of the best, cosy and well managed, I will definitely be coming back.
This property, although small (which is a part of its charm), is lovely, very clean, ideally situated and furnished to a very high standard. It is well stocked with all you could need and instructions from Paul and Wendy were excellent. Highly recommended.
The hosts Paul and Wendy were excellent with communication before we arrived, sending really helpful directions and information. The House was immaculate and beautifully furnished with brilliant amenities with great instructions on how to use everything. There were helpful leaflets, books and brochures about the Lake District and there were so many lovely touches that made the stay really special. I can't rate Troutbeck Cottage highly enough! A really enjoyable visit!
Gorgeous property, felt very cosy and like a home from home. Everything you could want and some lovely extras. Property finished to a high standard. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for a great stay.
The property was beautiful, a good base for travelling around the Lake District. Was equipped with all we needed for a 3 night stay. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised as property looks better in person than on photos. There was a welcome pack on arrival that was well received after a long journey. It seems everything was considered by owners.Beds and pillows were very comfortable and we all slept so well which added to the whole holiday experience.
This was the fourth time that we have stayed at the Cottage, which has become a real home from home. Everything about it is first rate - it’s spotlessly clean, very well appointed and ideally located for a Lakes getaway, whether travelling by car, bus or on foot. Paul is an excellent and very responsive host who is always on hand should any issues arise. Thoroughly recommended!
Perfect little cottage so beautifully decorated. Amazing attention to detail to ensure our stay was as comfortable and welcoming as possible. Extremely well presented with all the amenities you need, all of a high, exceptional quality. All recently decorated and highly maintained. Very comfortable bed and bathroom facilities. Would highly recommend a stay. Having a car is useful as there is only a petrol station with Spa village stores in Troutbeck Bridge but there are plenty of regular bus services and Windermere town centre is about a 25 minute walk away.
We probably stay in 1-2 temporary rentals per year, and this was the best of a dozen or so. Everything you need, nothing you don't. So thoughtfully prepared in so many details. Quiet, clean, comfortable. Host information was clear and thorough. (Guests: Pay careful attention to the directions for arrival and parking--they're clear, but it took us a couple of false starts to implement them. Current GPS directions are wrong, and they only update to be "correct" as you're arriving in the parking area!) Among other things, we found Troutbeck Bridge much quieter and less crowded than Windermere to the south and Ambleside to the north, and appreciated being away from the hubbub at the end of each day. Proximity to everything was excellent--we climbed fells, walked around lakes, ate out and cooked in, and visited the properties of William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, and John Ruskin. A small car makes narrow lanes and steep passes more navigable...
We were very lucky with the weather, the property was a real home from home everything you could want… the area was fantastic and so much to do and see… would definitely want to come back so enjoyable thank you
What a beautiful cottage, great quiet location but close enough to Windermere and Bowness. The cottage have everything you need and is beautifully decorated and modern, it was home from home during our Christmas stay this year. The Christmas tree and welcoming basket was a lovely touch from the host.
A lovely cottage with modern and stylish interiors. Great location for Windermere and Ambleside. No trouble finding the cottage from the directions given. Would highly recommend staying here.
