The apartment was clean when I arrived. It has all the amenities one could want while traveling, and certainly has historic charm. I checked in on a Friday, when the downtown area of Del Norte was very busy, which presented a few challenges: Parking: Since the unit is above a restaurant, and adjacent to a second restaurant, there was no parking on the street directly in front of it when I arrived. This necessitated parking across the street, and down a block, and then awkwardly lugging my belongings across the busy main road, within view of diners at either restaurant. I had to wait until later in the evening to move my car closer and continue moving the remainder of my belongings. (After I did, it was only a matter of time before it was trapped by two other vehicles, including a beat-up Mercedes that gave my back bumper less than a foot of clearance.)Noise: The road noise was excessive. The walls and windows of the unit did little to drown it out, so I needed to resort to using the TV or the bathroom fan for white noise. Only after the activity in the downtown area died down, after 9 pm, did the sound from traffic lower to a reasonable level. It picked right back up again early the next morning, as the town’s occupants headed for the hills. If you’re visiting during a less busy time, such as early or midweek, you may not encounter either of these challenges.
