About this property
Corte Rubbi 11 Secret Terrace Apartment
An ancient canal-side palace within minutes of St. Mark’s Square.
Hidden away on its landside within the secret courtyard ‘Corte Rubbi’, on the Castello/San Marco border, this once forgotten building has been magically transformed by restorers with vision and interior design savoir-faire.
Standing at the gondola-busy T-junction of the San Zulian and Bareteri canals, and encapsulating 8 dazzling apartments of varying colourway and size, the newly launched Corte Rubbi is but a stroll to some of Venice’s most iconic attractions and countless beguiling vistas on which to feast your eyes!
Easy to find (when you know the way!) from the shop-lined Campo San Bartolomeo and Salizada San Lio on one of Venice’s canal-encircled ‘islands within an island’, these imaginatively furnished apartments offer Wi-Fi and a communal laundry room and are spread across 4 floors with all upper floors reached by stairs.
Highly contemporary in style, air-conditioned** throughout and ranging from a charming studio for 4 to a fabulous penthouse with rooftop terrace, Corte Rubbi’s 10 apartments sleep up to 42 guests if booked exclusively and include:
Corte Rubbi 11 – on the 4th Floor reached by stairs – sleeping 2 (+2) . Upon previous request we can organize a porter service with a surcharge.
The palazzo’s romantic penthouse apartment – a cosy and characterful retreat with attractive beams, sloping ceilings and a spectacular furnished ‘altana’ rooftop terrace enjoying a breathtaking view of the ‘Rio De Bareteri’ canal and its bridges, the 16th-century church of San Salvador to the right and the instantly recognisable spire of St. Mark’s Campanile topped with its golden archangel Gabriel.
Its stylish accommodation comprises:
A main living / dining room with warm wooden flooring underfoot, wooden timbers overhead, a double sofa bed sleeping 2 guests, a dining suite and a well-equipped kitchenette suited to light cooking. Steps to the fore lead up and out onto the fabulous ‘altana’ rooftop terrace boasting that remarkable and quintessentially Venetian view!
A luxurious bathroom with chromotherapy shower to the side
A splendid principal bedroom with a double bed and canal views to the fore plus a pristine en suite bathroom with chromotherapy shower to the rear all cleverly concealed behind a rose-pink sliding door
Important – Please be sure to take a look at the photo gallery to better appreciate the restricted headspace in certain areas of this apartment

OUR COMMENT
A romantic penthouse with a spectacular rooftop terrace and canal views, in a vibrant, central and endlessly fascinating part of town.
A few steps away from the 18th-century church of Santa Maria Della Fava and close to a host of famous sights and attractions including the atmospheric Venetian time-capsule that is the Querini Stampalia, the fabulous Palazzo Grimani just off Campo Santa Maria Formosa, the Church of San Zaccaria with its crypt and wonderful Bellini altarpiece, and Vivaldi’s La Pietà on the sunny Riva degli Schiavoni waterfront…
… A short stroll towards a very sedate pace of life lived out amongst the tranquil calles, canals and green spaces of Castello with its laid-back and very genuine neighbourhood vibe…
… Or rise with the lark to embrace the atmosphere of St. Mark’s Square (‘the Piazza’) gloriously near-empty before its visitors arrive… or visit at night when the orchestras of Quadri and Florian play*, the bells of the Campanile (bell tower) toll, the marble of the Doge’s Palace glows, and the mosaics of the Basilica shimmer in the darkness…
Close to a host of shops, restaurants and bars including the much-lauded Alle Testiere, the upmarket Bistrot de Venise and Alle Corone of the nearby Hotel Reali, the charming Osteria Al Portego (delicious cicheti!) and Osteria Ae Sconte, plus Ristorante Santa Maria Formosa with its tables on the campo.
Also within easy reach of 4 well-stocked supermarkets – a Despar at Calle al Ponte de la Guerra, a COOP at Salizada San Lio, and a COOP and a Despar on the Riva del Carbon (near the Rialto Bridge), along with a ‘Vino Sfuso’ (wine on tap) shop on Calle del Mondo Novo and a greengrocer’s stand at Campo Santa Maria Formosa.
Within a short stroll of the vaporetto (water bus) stop at Rialto for exploring the city, the ‘Traghetto’ gondola ferry carrying passengers across the Grand Canal between the Riva Del Carbon and San Silvestro in the San Polo district and the vaporetto (water bus) stop at San Zaccaria for trips around town, visits to the Lido beaches and to the Biennale Pavilions at Arsenale and Giardini.

This has to be one of the very best properties in Venice. Beautifully presented and very high quality. The location is perfect, close to everything but quiet too. Excellent and highly recommended.

I loved this little apartment so much, it is so comfortable and has a beautiful terrace overlooking some of Venice’s canals. Short walk to all the major spots and the group is so kind with recommendations. Can’t wait to come back to venice just to stay here!

Very many thanks for your lovely feedback Samuel. We are so happy that you loved our Corte Rubbi 1. Really hoping to have the pleasure of having you back in Venice soon.
Property was nice however the house design was awkward and there are a ton of stairs. Other than that everything else was good.

Thank you Nam, we’re delighted you liked the our Corte Rubbi 11 apartment! Unfortunately lifts are very rare in Venice so stairs can be considered a small exercise!!

THE place to stay in Venice!
Views on Venice customer service is beyond extraordinary. All staff were very helpful, punctual and polite and we couldn’t have wished for better representation.
An incredibly charming apartment that felt tucked away from the bustle of the city. The layout is a little weird, but feels luxurious and comfortable. The roof deck is amazing. Exactly what we were looking for in Venice. There are a lot of angled beams from the roof structure, so I would recommend one of their other apartments to anyone who is especially tall.

Overall excellent stay. The beauty of the building is outstanding!
Mind you the stairs - there are loads of them so be mindful of that! Loved that there was laundry in the building.
Great communication and very easy check in process as well as prompt answer to our questions!

Everything about this property was amazing! It was so clean, very safe, beautiful and a great location! Our host gave us great recommendations and gave us a map with some key things to do. The aircon was very welcome after the long trek up the stairs, but the stairs were so worth the views and balcony of this space. There are low ceilings so could be tricky for very tall people. We loved everything about our stay!

Amazing stay
This is the most beautiful accommodation we've staying in. The apartment is incredibly clean beautifully designed. Great AC and the balcony was lovely and calm with fantastic views of the canal! I would certainly recommend anyone stay here.
Provide coffee pods for the machine. Stronger WiFi.
We’ve rented more than 70 VRBO properties around the globe, and we do hit some that are even better than the pics, and this was one! Great location in Venice, in addition to being a modern, unique apartment.

Thrilled to hear that you liked Corte Rubbi 11! We hope to see you in Venice again soon! . With thanks for your kind comments.
Talk about luxury! This is the perfect place to stay in Venice if you're looking to be directly in the center of all the action. Are there many steps? Yes, but only because you have one of the premier views in the whole area. We could walk to any location we wanted and were treated extremely well by the host. We will be back!

Response from VrboOwner on 16 Oct 2023
Many thanks for writing in Chris, we are delighted to hear that everything was to your liking (and that the stairs proved worthwhile). Hoping that we see you in Venice again soon.
The location was excellent. The unit was great and fun.
My wife and I loved sitting in the patio splitting a glass of wine. The patio was the best spot in town on a canal with easy access to San Marco.
The owner and staff were incredible. They answered every question and helped secure water taxis.
The only challenge was the stairs. Glad we’re in good shape as it was a great workout bringing our luggage up the stairs to the attic.
Overall a 5 star experience with a five star owner and staff.

Thanks so much for your kind words Bill! We’re really delighted that you had such a lovely time. Hoping that you have special memories of Venice and that you come back soon to do it all over again! Sending you and your wife our very best wishes, it was a real pleasure having you stay.
This is the best apartment we ever stayed in during our worldwide travels. Right in the middle of all the action ( Ponte Realto). It is on the 3rd ( Italian) floor, meaning actually 4th floor. No elevator, for us it wasn’t an issue. In the medieval building, all updated with modern conveniences. Wonderful balcony, almost on the roof, with the view of Campanile di San Marco and the canal , gondolas . Several more campaniles nearby, they start tolling at 7.00 am, so - no sleep after that. Again- no issue for us, early risers with lots to do in town. The apartment has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, large by European standards showers, bidets, Excellent water pressure. Kitchen equipped with everything one needs to cook a simple meal.We cooked a few meals during our 2 weeks there, just couldn’t help ourselves: we were 5 minutes from the fish and vegetables market Mercato di Realto.
The agency that rents it is very well organized, they waited for us on arrival:we were stuck for an hour in vaporetto arriving in Venice. They explained everything. We requested a linen change after 1 week, it was done promptly. We also used their concierge service for a booking of a private culinary lesson. They were simply great! This level of organization is rare for Italy. We love Italy and Italians, we learned their language over the years of coming here. One thing we always have to put up with is disorganization, no punctuality as a national trait. This company is clearly an exception: 5 stars!

About the host
Hosted by Views On Venice
Views on Venice was founded in the late 1990’s when the concept of short term apartment rentals was in its infancy and rarely considered an option by most visitors to the city. As a ‘thirty-something’ Venetian excited by the new business and communication opportunities offered by the internet, I decided to link up with a close childhood friend in creating a partnership which, at the time, was a novelty in Venice. The idea we had in mind was to approach the traditional management of my family’s apartments from an entirely different angle, while at the same time resisting the attentions of those wanting to transform my family's palazzo into a prestigious hotel. Our aim was to offer these apartments, as well as those of friends, for rental to an international clientele who’d take pleasure in the comfort, freedom and authenticity of ‘living at home as a Venetian’ rather than merely observing the city from the confines of an anonymous hotel room or suite. The common denominator then, as now, was to offer ‘something extra’ amidst an already extraordinary city - an added dimension which turns a ‘stay’ into an ‘experience’ and a 'dream' into 'reality'.
