Lovely stay

We really enjoyed staying at this property. We went to a wedding up the road and used the house as a base for walking locally and in the Lake District. If you would like to eat at the butchers arms, we recommend making a booking for dinner- we missed out. The greyhound in shap was excellent though.

Getaway from it all

House was the perfect size for us. Beds comfy, shower amazing, lots of seating and relaxing spaces. We spent a fair bit of time each evening in the living room and kitchen (good size and well equipped) and it was great. The dog loved it too.. We did a few walks around Eden valley from the house, but you can also drive to Ullswater/Helvellyn in about 40 mins. My only minor comment is that renters should bring absolutely everything they need for cooking and meals, including seasoning and oil etc. There are no local shops. We did have plenty of utensils, pans, cleaning products however. We got a Sainsburys delivery too.

Brookside is a great place for a quiet family break with a dog (or without!). The rooms are good sized and there is an abundance of pots, cutlery and glassware. It’s also well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.The bonus for Brookside is its location overlooking the village green, good for walking the dog - on a lead because of grazing sheep and lambs. Within 20 minutes you can be in Appleby and slightly longer to Penrith. It’s also good if you are attending a wedding at Holesfoot (as we were) which is 5 minutes drive away.Would we go to Brookside again? Yes, definitely!
