The Space:
- The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking appliances and supplies. Basic pantry items, such as spices, sugar, butter, flour and milk are already there for your convenience. We have a stovetop with small oven (large enough for 13x9 pan, but not tall enough for a turkey), toaster, microwave, coffee maker, crockpot, pots and pans, BBQ utensils, propane grill, and dinnerware.
- A complimentary bottle of bubbly will be waiting for you in the fridge, as well as all the fixins’ for a hearty breakfast on your first morning. Generally this will be eggs from our hens, sausage, orange juice, English muffins, oatmeal , muffin mixes, pancake mix & syrup, butter, jam, coffee, tea, milk and half and half.
- The dining table is large. Or dine on the 300 square foot screened-in porch (no pesky flies ruining your BBQ), while watching for the occasional deer, coyote, or aoudad. There are many bird species as well, such as road runners, quail, hawks, orioles, indigo buntings, stellar jays and owls.

- A spiral staircase accesses the loft bedroom which features two beds (a single and a double).
- The extra large bathroom with clawfoot bathtub and a crystal chandelier is luxurious, elegant, and every woman’s dream. We provide luxury soaps and lotions, bath bombs, bath bubbles, facial masks, cotton balls, Q Tips, make-up removal towelettes, shampoo and cream rinse, and a hair dryer.

NEW 2023, we now have an outdoor fire pit.

Guest Access:
Guests have the entire cabin centered on over 6 secluded acres of peace and quiet all to themselves. There is only one other cabin (The Hideout at Palo Duro Canyon - Rider’s Roost, which sleeps 4), on the 6.5 acre property. There are beautiful horses and two goats, Danny Boy and Fern, grazing the property. All this privacy, yet the State Park which offers hiking and mountain biking nirvana, Palo Duro Creek Ranch Jeeping tours, and Palo Duro Riding Stables are all less than two miles away! And don’t forget the musical drama TEXAS which shows in the park’s outdoor amphitheater June through mid-August.
If you like museums, the Panhandle Plains Historical Museum is approximately 10 miles away and is the largest history museum in the state of Texas.
Bar Z Winery is also near by.
It’s a 30 minute drive to Amarillo, home of the famous Route 66, the Cadillac Ranch, The Big Texan Steak Ranch, the Amarillo Center for the Performing Arts, Amarillo Botanical Gardens, and the 6th street antique mall.
We, as hosts and owners of the property, will frequently be on the property tending to the animals, watering trees, perhaps cleaning the other cabin on the property.
Please note ONLY the number of guests booked can be on the property. We do not accept 3rd party bookings as this is against booking platform policy. Only the guests that book the property can be on the property. Guests cannot have additional visitors. Guests having parties or events such as weddings will be fined and asked to leave immediately.
No smoking or vaping is allowed inside. Guests will be charged if we have to hire a company to remove smoke/vaping odors.
No pets of any kind allowed.
The Neighborhood:
The cabin is located approximately 1.5 miles from the entrance to Palo Duro Canyon State Park.
During the summer months TEXAS Musical Drama shows at the park's outdoor amphitheater.
Palo Duro Riding Stables is just a stone throw from The Hideout. They’ve been around since 1962 and some of their horses are 3rd generation trail horses. Jesse and Kristen Sorenson really know their business! We highly recommend them!
Palo Duro Creek Ranch Jeep Tours is located between The Hideout and the state park entrance. Have a blast exploring a private part of the canyon in an all terrain vehicle with driver.
Creek House Honey Farm is a great first stop on the way into the town of Canyon for lunch, or a great last stop on the way back to your cabin for a drink!
The Panhandle Plains Historical Museum is 11 miles away, and is the largest history museum in the state of Texas.
Bar Z Winery is also very close by.
We have great restaurants on the town square, such as Joe Taco's, Sayakamaryns, and Palace Coffee. Feldman’s family diner is also in town, as is Pepitos Mexican Restaurant.
The city of Amarillo is a 30 minute drive from the cabin, and has a wide variety of arts, entertainment, sporting events and restaurants. It’s home of The Big Texan Steak Ranch, home of the 72 ounce steak!
Getting Around:

Other Things to Note:
Due to the fact there are horses on the property, it is imperative that guests keep the entrance gate closed at all times when entering or exiting the property.
Our horses graze on our neighbor’s property. However, guests are not allowed to access neighboring properties and must remain within the 6.5 fenced acres of this property. Please be sure all members in your party are aware of this.
While our horses are very friendly, do not pet or feed them. All activities on the property are subject to the Equine Inherent Risk Law. By renting the property you have indicated that by your presence on the grounds you have accepted the limits of liability resulting from inherent risks of equine activities under Texas law.
No smoking or vaping is allowed inside the cabin or elsewhere on the property due to high fire danger. This is a very strict rule. We do allow smoking/ vaping on the screened porch where we provide a cigarette disposal receptacle. Guest will be charged if we have to hire professionals to remove smoke or vapor from inside the cabin.
We do not allow use of the wood stove if children under age 12 are in your party.

You may notice our horses wander through the red gate onto our neighbor’s 25 acres. That property is however off limits for our guests. Trespassing laws would be enforced.
Additionally, we sometimes have rescue horses with possible health issues that would make feeding them treats risky, such as swallowing disorders, digestive disorders (prone to colic), or tooth issues. Again, we want to stress, do not feed them. Thank you.
Swimming in the pond is strictly prohibited. The split rail fence by the pond must also remain gated closed to keep the miniature horses from accessing the pond
This property is subject to HOA rules and regulations. It is in a quiet zone. Therefore, no parties, events, or outside music is allowed. No outside fires allowed.
We do have a propane fire pit for guest use. Music is ok on the porch as long as it’s not so loud it can be heard at the other cabin or by our neighbors.
Interaction with Guests:
Your hosts will be available by phone 24/7, and live only 2 miles away. A concierge service is available for a $40.00 fee.
We do come on the property every morning and every evening to tend to the horses. We enjoy visiting with our guests, but we also respect your privacy. During summer we are often on the property watering trees.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

We’re really enjoyed our stay at Buffalo Lodge. It was extremely clean and well equipped. The extra touches like items for breakfast and handmade soap just added to a great experience. Check-in and check-out we effortless. We would definitely recommend staying here.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The rustic cabin is top notch and well-kept. Our host was very attentive and easy to communicate with. The location was very close to the national park entrance and only about 20 minutes away from Amarillo. We are already planning our next stay.
Our stay in the Buffalo Lodge was exactly what I had hoped it would be: remote-ish, private, cozy, and very relaxing! Andrea was the perfect hostess! Additionally, she provided a wide variety of breakfast items. I did not expect that.
Absolutely loved our stay!! Super cute cabin, great location, amazing views of the stars, and outstanding hosts!! Would absolutely stay here again, and plan on it!
The cabin was beautifully decorated. The hostess provided eggs, sausage, English muffins, orange juice and champagne for mimosas! The kitchen was stocked with staples and ready for guests! The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom also fully stocked and beautiful! I highly recommend this property! Very peaceful and quiet yet located close enough to state park and restaurants in Canyon!
The Cabin is located in very peaceful surroundings with a good view. It was very clean and the porch was an excellent place to relax. Kitchen was very well stocked and the host hospitality was second to none! Comunication and check in/check out was very smooth. Will definitely be back.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property is private and we loved seeing the animals. Our cabin was super cozy. We slept great while we were there and we enjoyed all of the little extra touches provided by Andrea our host. The location is perfect. We enjoyed the town of Canyon and hiking Palo Duro. The Lumberyard was a fun dining experience. We loved the Monte Christo Eggrolls! The weather turned too cold to hike so after church in Canyon we went to breakfast at Over Eze in Amarillo and shopped at the mall. Then we came back to our cozy cabin & watched movies. It was a much needed, fun, get-a-way!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. And the canyon is just around the corner!

We lived our stay at The Hideout. Perfect location for Palo Duro Canyon.
The accomodations were wonderful. Loved the rustic vibe and decor.
Highly recommend!
Thank you for leaving us a review Shawn! I’m so glad we spoke the night prior to your departure and you told me “ Ten stars!”, and all the things you loved about The Hideout.
As per our conversation 4 hours after your departure, it is against our policy to mail your forgotten luggage bag to you. Although we did offer to drive 4 hours round trip ourselves to meet you halfway, and we did concede to mailing it to you, but you never provided your address or any reimbursement. We always try to go above and beyond to provide our guests an enjoyable experience. I’m sorry you’ve decided your problem should become our problem.
Hummingbird haven, koi pond gurgling, screened in porch. The cabin itself is so very adorable. We watched the horses and other wildlife. Would definitely come again.
Love, love, love this place! One of the most thoughtfully put together cabins we have stayed. The owners really went out of their way with details! Provided breakfast food to cook, complete with mimosas. Hope to come back!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hideout! This cabin was a perfect spot for our family of 3 on our long weekend trip to Palo Duro Canyon! The extra amenities like bath bombs, makeup wipes, even fresh eggs in the fridge were an awesome cherry on top of this stay! The location was so convenient for getting into the state park and also so nice to have the Sad Monkey just up the road for a casual lunch or dinner! We’ll definitely be back here again!
This was our second visit. First time was 1 night at the end of our honeymoon in 2024, and we returned for a 3 night stay for our 1st anniversary. We had an awesome experience and would recommend it to anyone who wants peace and quiet but also loves and respects animals as they
