This is a difficult review to write, because the apartment is beautiful and our family enjoyed staying there. The difficulty lies within the host. He doesn't seem to be a person who listens well or wants feedback, so I'm not sure who this review is for. The problem started with the host not meeting us at the apartment. He said this was common practice, and this is true, however, in our experience this often leads to frustration. It's common sense; apartments in old cities like Rome are very different than any place else, but this is especially so if you're coming from the USA. Everything in Rome is different; the kitchen appliances, the washer (if there is one) the way one enters into an apartment, and in this instance, the KEY and how one opens the door with the key is very different. In this case, the key broke inside the lock. We didn't abuse the key or turn it hard. I've been in plenty of old buildings that require you to turn the key in very specific ways; some locks are old and sticky and require a hard turn, while others require a soft touch, others feel like you're breaking into an old vault. In the end, If the host had simply accepted some accountability, met us for just 15 minutes, or had someone meet us at the apartment and showed us around, it would have saved so much stress and frustration. But, in this case, the host became very defensive and hard. He didn't check in at all during our 4 night stay, We presumed he was mad and frustrated like a dad with bad kids
