On the very edge of the Garden District with its storied streets and mysterious mansions there is one 1840's grey lady that is both wonderful and Odd above all others. Hidden in plain sight but long forgotten, the manse and its secret gardens loom behind the tall mossy walls. Passing through the the locked iron doors you are greeted to a luxurious hideaway unique to anything outside of the French Quarter.
Once inside the gates, you enter an enormous garden terrace that overlooks the main yard with lots of places to sit and relax as well as an antique outdoor dining table. Here you will find a lovely pool surrounded by old lavender stones with a fountain spouting from the creeping fig covered walls.
Two large antique French doors on the terrace open to the charming Living Room and Dining Room with very high ceilings and terra-cotta floors and a working fireplace. These rooms are decorated with European antiques and also modern sofas for comfort. Passing through an arched door there is a generous kitchen with tall wooden beamed ceilings, a 14' long stone topped island and painted exposed brick walls. The tall French doors in the kitchen provide beautiful light and great access to the pool just outside. The Kitchen is well equipped with a La Cornue range, Subzero refrigerator, large apron sink and Waterworks faucets. There is also a powder room off the kitchen.
Still on the ground floor passing through the Kitchen doorway you enter a lovely bar area which can be closed off and there is an additional truly charming Bedroom on the site of the original Stable at the Lodge. This Downstairs Bedroom also has a sofa and its own private courtyard and entrance...perfect for someone who wants a bit more privacy or a nanny etc.
Upstairs in the main house are the rest of the bedrooms which includes a generously sized Master Suite with lots of closets and an iron balcony. In the Master Suite the ceilings are 17' tall with multiple 10' windows and wooden shutters for privacy. All of the floors upstairs are antique hardwood. There is a lovely working (gas) fireplace for cooler nights as well. It is furnished as the rest of the house with many details and antiques as well as some smart modern touches. The Master Bathroom is en-suite Art Deco with a large marble soaking tub and separate shower.
The house is unusual in that two of the bedrooms operate as their own private suite area which can really be wonderful when one wants to have privacy. Downstairs is very open and both major rooms open on to the large terrace and create a spectacular openness onto the gardens which, when the weather is good, is really wonderful. In all, you have a true hidden garden hideaway for French alfresco living! *Please note that we have a one week minimum during the following holidays/special events: Mardi Gras, Easter, Jazz Fest Wednesday - Wednesday and Christmas.

Great place, location and renter!
Couldn’t be happier with our rental. Perfect location in NOLA and great renter!
This house could not have been more perfect! Our family had TONS of room, we cooked a few nights and everything we needed was already there, and if I had any questions the hosts were quick to respond and helpful. The location is excellent - quiet street and easy to walk to magazine. We felt very safe and saved a fortune on Ubers. We all loved this house!! No one wanted to leave and we would love renting it again!
Absolutely lovely stay. The house was clean, well stocked, & beautiful. The courtyard & pool were our favorite. Hosts were excellent & location was perfect.
William and Jules are fantastic hosts..property was clean, in a great location and very charming! Jules also sent us a very helpful "foodie list" before we arrived - super helpful! Highly recommend!
We came for a Tulane football weekend with friends. The home met our needs: pool, spacious, location off of Magazine Street. The owner is accommodating and generous. We hope to stay here again next year.
The property owner was very communicative and quick to respond when we needed anything. The location was great and the house was decorated very well. We loved the backyard.
The kitchen is AMAZING and the master bedroom is incredible! Everything else is wonderful as well, the COURTYARD! I could go on and on— well stocked, attention to detail! Loved it!
This house was stunning and captured the unique charm of New Orleans so well. This was the first time I have stayed outside the French Quarter and I was so impressed with the house and its features. The kitchen is spectacular. I would only recommend three couples in the house as one of the bedrooms doesn’t have a door, but if you have kids that is perfect! William, the host, was super quick to respond and very helpful. I will definitely stay here again.

Cozy and quiet but still close to all the action in New Orleans
Great little place, owners were super helpful and having parking onsite was great. If you read the little label maker tags you'll be all good. The cool looking tall white doors in the kitchen are not your pantry....

Wonderful experience for a first timer
While we did not actually stay in the stable house, William provided wonderful accommodations at another very lovely location. He personally called me when a hiccup arose so we could rest assured our stay in NOLA was wonderful, even providing us with a dining list of local favorites
Our location was close to Bourbon Street and many major attractions within walking distance or Blue bikes, so no need for car rental and very little Ubering.
Would definitely recommend our host again and look forward to Future booking
This house is absolutely a dream! The pics do not do it justice! Stayed with 7 friends and cooked and loved just hanging out at the house! Super walkable neighborhood and easy to get to wherever we were going by car. Will rent this house again and again! Romantic, beautiful yard was great for photos— the manager was awesome and made it clear he was there if we needed anything! Super knowledgeable and had lots of suggestions for food and things to do! If this house was for sale I’d want to buy it!
Unbeatable Experience at Modern Garden District getaway
We had the most incredible long weekend at this gorgeous little getaway, tucked in an incredibly convenient area of the Lower Garden District. From the minute we arrived, the romantic ambience, sleek modern aesthetic, and high level of detail and care the hosts put into this cozy little one-bedroom were simply stunning. With a buzzing small business strip nearby, guests are within easy walking distance of great dining and drinking options, but the private little outdoor patio and comfortability of this place make staying in a live option as well. William and Julie were timely and attentive with communication and any info we requested, yet gave us our space — really stellar hosts. We loved the place so much we decided to extend our stay an extra night!
Unique studio apartment. There is a step up to the the bathroom and the kitchen .
I have not received my $100 deposit back yet.

Hi Bernard,
We actually do not hold deposits, VRBO places a "hold" on your card until 7 days after check out. If there is no damage, the charge is released. Obviously there was no damage so you should see that back on your card soon. Glad you enjoyed the stay, and I'm sorry that you had difficulty with the one step in the downstairs bathroom. The step could not be avoided as that room was a converted horse stable from the 1800's.
