Whidbey Island Mid-Century Modern Waterfront Escape - JAW DROPPING VIEWS!!
A lovingly restored classic Mid-century Modern Waterfront home. The nearly 270 degree westside view spans Mt. Rainier, downtown Seattle, the Olympics, Port Townsend, and the San Juan islands. Sitting on nearly an acre with privacy so difficult to find, this home features a circular driveway, full length deck, master suite with its own private deck, a chef's kitchen with high end appliances, and close proximity to all that Whidbey Island has to offer.
Our place feels like it's a world away, yet it's only a short 90 minute jaunt from Seattle. Located in the Olympic rain shadow, our winter days are warmer / dryer and summer days are cooler than Seattle.
The house has been a labor of love for our family as we have been carefully restoring / preserving it to its original 1960s mid-century modern vintage complete with modern finishes / creature comforts - all with a focus on reuse and sustainability.
Take in the views from the full size deck that extends the length of the house and is equipped with HAY Palissade deck chairs, a Solo Stove fire pit, a Sonos Move, alfresco dining setup, and a Pawleys Island cotton rope hammock - all capped by a spectacular PNW native Madrona tree.
The great room is replete with carefully curated mid century modern touches, a fully stocked chef's kitchen with high end appliances, a Nespresso machine, board games, a deep sectional couch, an Apple TV, a Sonos audio setup, amazon Alexas, and smart lighting controlled via the provided iPad.
The spa-like master bedroom ensuite has a medium firm foam mattress king size bed, Pendleton throws, a wall of closets, soft linen sheets, and opens to its own private deck. The Master Bedroom now has a brand new, METICULOUSLY REMODELED bathroom with a vanity, and DUAL SHOWERS. Be one of the first to experience it!
Be one of the first to experience the RECENTLY REMODELED second bathroom. Deep water tub, dual floating vanity, Hansgrohe fixtures all interspersed with subway and hex tile.
The second bathroom has a deep water tub, dual floating vanity, Hansgrohe fixtures all interspersed with subway and hex tile.
The green spaces on three sides of the property are perfect for bocce ball, frisbee, kicking a soccer ball around, badminton, or for using the outdoor ping pong table. Need a bigger playground - walk down the street to take steps to the beach.

We’ve stayed many times before, and we always love it. The kitchen is well equipped, the beds are incredibly comfortable, the view is phenomenal, and the hosts always leaves a welcome gift from a local vendor. Plus it’s dog friendly and cozy and stylish! We will be back soon!
Such a lovely place with a knockout view. The home is wonderfully decorated with thoughtful amenities everywhere. Quiet neighborhood but close to restaurants and shops. One of the best vacation rentals I have stayed at. 10 out of 10.
We very much enjoyed our 1 week vacation with the breath-taking views. We got to enjoy hummingbirds daily, seals playing in the ocean, eagles cruising past the deck, a sailboat regatta, numerous cruise boats, bunnies in the yard, and deers in the neighborhood. Owner was very responsive of a couple issues we had during our stay; smoke detectors beeping and no tv for a day. They were kind enough to issue us a gift card for lunch- 2 days before we left, but unfortunately we were unable to use it. It was a very nice gesture anyway. If I could make a couple suggestions it would be:providing a bench for the shower. House has a wonderful wheelchair ramp, which was extremely helpful since we were traveling with our adult special-needs daughter that uses a wheelchair. Showering her was a challenge without a bench, though. Also, have the house keeper to check supplies. We ran out of soap for one of the bathrooms, garbage bags and paper towels. The house was extremely well stocked otherwise. The kitchen had everything we needed to make our meals there. Lots of grass for our dogs to enjoy. We enjoyed our stay, and my daughter stated before we left.... "I'm going to miss this".
Perfect getaway to explore Whidbey Island. They have a rope swing in the back yard which was a big hit with our granddaughter. The home had a very nice welcome gift, clean, beautiful views, and is a lovingly cared for Mid century home on the water.
I highly recommend this property. My stay there was quite perfect. The house is easy to work with, owners couldn’t be more accommodating and then there is the breathtaking view. It doesn’t get any better.
A wonderful place to stay with amazing views of the Pudget Sound and Olympic Mountains. Close to many sites and shops. We would definitely consider renting again.
We absolutely love staying in this cozy, warm and peaceful retreat! We were able to press the pause button on the world for a couple of days. We have stayed here in the past, and, look forward to returning! (Our little dog, Mollie felt right at home, too, and, napped peacefully the whole time!)
Fantastic views and sunset, quiet neighborhood, clean and well appointed home. Comfortable beds, updated bathrooms with good water pressure. Climate controll worked well. Yard was great for dog.
This home checks ALL the boxes!
Beautiful views, comfortable living spaces, well equipped kitchen, quiet neighborhood.
We couldn’t have asked for more!
We even had an Orca sighting!
Thank you to our generous hosts!

About the host
Hosted by Naureen
We have lived in Seattle for the past 25 years. Naureen has a background in real estate and Shehryar works with tech startups. We left no stone unturned in our search for a second home and landed on the west side of Whidbey Island as the perfect destination to escape the hustle and bustle of city life with our 12 and 14 year old sons and a Labradoodle. Wanderlust has taken us to over 25 different countries across 5 continents. We have stayed in hundreds of hotels, pensions, and B&B’s and have drawn inspiration from all of them for this property.
Why they chose this property
Our place is located in the Windmill Heights neighborhood on the west side of Whidbey Island, on the north end of Mutiny Bay, which (along with Useless Bay) is widely considered to be one of the best beaches on the Island. The neighborhood comprises of 30 homes of which 14, like ours, are on the water. Centrally located on South Whidbey, the town of Freeland is an 8 minute drive, Langley 20 minutes, Greenbank 15 minutes, Coupeville 25 minutes, the Clinton Ferry Terminal 20 minutes, and Coupeville Ferry Terminal 25 minutes.
What makes this property unique
We love the views, access to the beach, the artsy community of South Whidbey Island, great restaurants, and the dryer weather (as compared to Seattle).
