Kaluhe Cottage is conveniently located in the heart of Volcano Village. Secluded among the ohia trees, this two bedroom one bath home is cozy & clean. Both forest view bedrooms have comfortable queen size beds.

There is an early Sunday Farmer's Market where you can get fresh fruit, vegetables and local crafts from the area. A used bookstore where you can find books, magazines and various items is also available.

Volcano Village has two small grocery stores, several restaurants, a laundromat, art galleries, hardware store and a post office. ATM's are also available.

Dine in with the fully equipped kitchen or eat out at nearby restaurants.
A wood burning stove or space heater will keep you warm on chilly evenings.

Two towel warmers keep your towels dry and warm.

This lovely home has a Smart TV and an assortment of videos.

Games are available such as Yahtzee, cards, cribbage & puzzles, as well as children's books and an assortment of magazines and books as well as information on Kilauea Volcano and the hikes in this area.

Our cottage does not have cable. We have internet via Dish satellite which isn't as strong as Internet provided by cable. Zoom meetings aren't recommended. Unfortunately, cable is not available to us. We will continue to request cable service.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is just minutes away where you can visit one of the most active volcanoes in the world. The Visitors Center will give you current information on the volcanoes activity which may be viewed day or night. Tour by car or walk/hike the miles of trails while hearing the songs of the native forest birds. The Visitor's Center has a gift shop and informational displays.

The Volcano House Hotel and Restaurant offers dining options and wonderful crater views.

Kilauea Military R & R Camp is located within the park and open to the public. Enjoy the Crater Rim Cafe on selected days, and the Lava Lounge 7 days a week, various hours. You can find a grocery store and Post Office as well.

Volcano Golf & Country Club & the Volcano Winery is a 10 minute drive away where you can tour the winery and enjoy a wine tasting. Sea Mountain Golf Course and Punalu'u Black Sand Beach, where you might see Green sea turtles, is a beautiful 35 minute drive away. Hilo is 45 minutes away where you will find waterfalls, shopping, supermarkets and Botanical Gardens.

Volcano Village is a 2 1/2 hour drive from the Kona side of the island.

Cost:$150/Night double occupancy + $25 per Additional Person. There is a $135.00 cleaning fee. We have a $250 REFUNDABLE security deposit. Website will refund after your departure with no damages.

Check in is after 3 pm and Check out is before 10 am.
Late checkout will result in a fee of $50 per I/2 hour.

Super charming cabin! Not fancy but cozy, clean, and well appointed with everything you need for a stay including a well equipped kitchen. The space is rustic and comfortable and the setting is lush and private. Walkable to anything in the little town that you need (shops, dining). Host was communicative and responsive. Would definitely recommend if you are going to Volcano.

Absolutely excellent, we'd stay there again in a heart beat. Just a lovely property. We so enjoyed the fact that there were 2 complete bedrooms. I travel with my son so we want separate beds. So many places will say sleeps 2 but only have 1 bed. So, this was lovely. Nice location. Full on kitchen, & living room. The wood burning stove was nice to be able to warm up. I could walk to the stores, I can't say enough good things about it.

Charming and magical

It's not super fancy, and it is in the most idilic location, completely surrounded by rainforest. You expect to see gnomes - or I guess menehune since it's Hawaii - outside. Definitely recommend.

Lovely space, great location, close to nature!

The property was in a stunning location, next to nature and was as described on the listing. The host left tea and coffee, which was much appreciated! The overall communication from the host couldve been quicker - as we had an issue when we checked in and couldn’t get hold of them until the next morning. But apart from that, I would definitely recommend staying in this beautiful apartment!

Quiet and convenient

This cabin has the benefit of being both off the beaten path and still close to simple amenities like a store where you can pick up goods and a sandwich, and some eateries and art stores. It's just minutes from Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. The whole place was clean, well-apportioned, handsome, and comfortable. Sitting on the lanai surrounded for hours by birdsong, with a hot beverage (it was November) and a journal made my whole trip. Thanks for the great place to stay!

Quaint, Cozy, Cabin

Loved our stay at Volcano Cottage and would like to book it again soon. We stayed for 5 days but it still wasn't enough time. This cottage has the best shower I've ever experienced and the heated towel racks were an unexpected bonus. Our first night, we stoked the wood stove, made tea and watched 'Best in Show'. I loved the huge DVD collection; it was nice to watch a movie with the whole family again and the stove and heaters kept the whole place warm and cozy. Thank you for renting your cottage to us.

Relaxing Rainforest Cottage

We loved our stay at this little cottage nestled behind a gated driveway! It was close to a few dining options in Volcano and about 5 minutes from the Visitors Center in the national park. The home provided all of the comforts we needed for our stay. The beds were clean and comfortable, the porches were perfect for drinking coffee and reading a good book, and the rainshower head in the tub made for very relaxing showers at the end of our long days of exploring the big island. The property managers were very responsive to questions we had leading up to our trip. We would definitely stay here again!

A few changes needed- otherwise good

This is a lovely property set in a beautiful area. I loved hearing all the sounds of nature in the morning! Also, the shower is seriously one of the best I have ever experienced! Some areas that need improvement: the pots and pans are Teflon and are completely scratched up making them in fact unsafe to use. The curtains are horrible – they don’t really even cover the full windows and it’s a struggle to feel like you can get privacy. They need to be replaced. The rugs don’t have any matting underneath them so you feel like you could slip and fall at any time. Washing gloves were not provided, which made it hard to clean the dishes. other than that – a great property with a very responsive manager.

Great place to stay for a trip to the national park

My wife and I stayed at this cottage for two nights while we visited Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, after spending six nights on the Kona side of the Big Island. It was the perfect location for this part of the trip and we loved all the fine touches that Priscilla put into the cottage. It was clean, nicely decorated, and had three big windows in the bedroom that allowed us to enjoy the lush forest scenery without being out in the rain (it rained all three days we were there). I think this cottage looks better in person than in the pictures, too. The cottage is very close to Volcano "Village" (which is no more than a few restaurants and hotels) and made it very convenient to visit the park during the day and return at night to view the erupting Halema'uma'u Crater. We appreciated the park guides and guide books left in the cottage. There was also a helpful binder containing information about area attractions (namely the park) and restaurants. A downside was that the small heaters took a long time to warm up (though the bed had two thick comforters and plenty of blankets). We didn't try using the wood stove in the kitchen. Also, there was enough space for our short stay, but the bedrooms are small and don't have lots of storage, so consider that if you plan to stay for a long time. Despite this, the Kaluhe Cottage provided a much better experience than staying in a hotel. I highly recommend this place.

Cosy and Secluded Cottage

My wife and I stayed at Kaluhe Cottage for three nights in September, 2011 at the beginning of a week's stay vacationing on the Big Island. It is located close to the town of Volcano, yet it is far enough from busy roads to feel completely isolated in a beautiful rainforest setting. Nearly everything appeared brand new from the dwelling itself to the tasteful furnishings and art prints. Looking out the the bedroom windows were views of virgin rainforest beginning only a few feet away from the exterior walls. We used the full kitchen to prepare some of our meals. The cook pans and kitchen tools were all new and of good quality. The owner had left a variety of things for her guests to use and enjoy including CD recordings, books, pamphlets about features and hiking trails in Volcanoes NP, umbrellas, a day pack, flashlights, small cooler, etc. My wife used the day pack on one of our hikes in the park. There was a beautiful wood-burning stove, already filled with starting material and ready to light, but while we were there it didn't get quite cool enough to justify using. Additional heating capability was provided by two portable oil-filled radiators. The beds were comfortable and had thick comforters. The host had even left three containers of home-made soup in the freezer. We thawed one and had it for dinner one night. A very thoughtful touch....and delicious! The only negative feature was the driveway. From the pavement leading to the cottage, a straight, single-lane dirt road led about a quarter mile to a 90-degree turn from which there was only about 60 more feet to the parking area closest to the cottage. Pretty easy getting in, but backing up and completing the turn to exit was more challenging. There was a truck parked very close to the area to back into in order to complete the three-point turn, plus there was a tree and small surrounding garden to avoid that was right at the tee. I was okay negotiating the turnaround in the daytime, but at night (moonless for us) and with no exterior lighting, it was too challenging for me to do in the huge GMC Yukon SUV that I had rented. I probably could have done it in a smaller vehicle. Still, this was not enough of a detraction for me to rate our experience less than five stars. I felt that the accomodations were excellent for the requested rent, and I would not hesitate to recommend Kaluhe Cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful, secluded place to stay in Volcano.

the cottage is just what you need, clean, comfortable, ample kitchen supplies. loved not having tv for a week, plenty of movies to watch or books to read. Outside is beautiful with all the flora, everyday a new flower blooming and birds singing. general store, restaurants and national park very close. Thanks for sharing the cottage !
