Quiet and peaceful

I enjoyed my stay. I ended up checking out earlier just because I didn’t need it as long as anticipated. Very quiet neighborhood. It was so peaceful to go sit in the back by the canal and watch the fish. I would definitely stay again and have recommended this place to friends and family if they come to visit!

Rundown not Rustic and Owner Ripped Me Off

I would never have written a review at all if the Owner didn't rip me off. First, I will state that the place is run down NOT rustic. When I arrived, the counter and floor were dirty. Decor and furnishings are a joke (seriously!), the 3 legged toaster oven was full of crumbs, no stove or oven, hotplate did not work, portable dishwasher that can't be hooked up, no towels, no cable tv...only internet, could not run the central air because it stunk like cockroach s**t (I did the storage auctions for almost 30 years so I know the smell), heat stopped working, found a broken fake fingernail under the bed (not mine) after the place was supposed to have been cleaned as well as a dental flosser (not mine) under the foosball table in the bedroom. I was waiting for my rental to come out of probate so I ended up having to stay for almost 6 months. It was the only thing affordable for where I needed to be. After initial payment for the month, I knew I would have to stay for a while so I attempted to increase my stay for one month using the VRBO APP. For some reason I could not do it that way so I called VRBO and was told that The Owner has it setup that way so I have to ask him for an invoice. At that time, I was advised by VRBO that the only fees I would be charged would be $34/nt plus tax. When I was sent the invoice, I knew it was too much but I did not want to rock the boat because I needed this place. For May, The Owner upped the charges even more. Knowing that I did not need to stay the any longer, I confronted him. He claimed it was for cleaning at first. Well, there was one cleaning and I already paid for that, originally. Then he said insurance and I told him I cancelled the insurance the first month. He refused to give me a breakdown of charges or provide an invoice for what I paid for. All total The Owner overcharged me by $678 total. He never contacted me after I left to try to make things right. I've given him ample time to do so.

Our property is located in a rural part of Florida in a quiet little town, If you look at the pictures on VRBO, they are accurate except for the washer recently replaced with a portable. if there was any debris on the floor or counter tops . The plumber installed a new tankless water heater the day before Please enjoy the endless hot water. The cottage is not run down. there is no cable, but cable could have been provided for an additional price. most people have Netflix, Hulu or some other streaming service. there is not a stove. However, there is a microwave, the hot plate it is a convection plate and must be used with a certain pan/pot. there is also an electric skillet that is used for cooking, and yes there is a toaster oven also, which did have 4 legs and if the leg is missing then I need to take care of it. This home is a small vacation cottage., not meant for long term use. There is a portable dishwasher that does work as long as you hook it up to the kitchen faucet. We do have pest control service that comes, and that it why the guest never saw one. All the towels are in that little closet by the bathroom, there should be 6 of them all black. There is a cleaning fee of $4./day and it is clearly stated on the VRBO site. the guest asked for a break down and my husband sent the break down , all in all the guest was actually under charged by $314. the guest asked him if we could .receive cash by venmo. The guest was directed to go through VRBO to extend the stay. for some reason vrbo required us to invoice her through the web site. The guest paid all fees after invoice was sent. The guest paid on several occasions with no complaint The whole reason we do VRBO is so that they can handle all the stuff. All payment must be directed with vrbo please make sure you book your full vacation stay with vrbo

A unique experience

We, husband and wife, stayed for the entire month of November. We had beautiful weather. We played tennis at the nearby rec center. We could not send or receive calls, texts or share photos over our T-mobile cell phones in this area. However, we had work-arounds, one being communicating through the free Kakao Talk app, or sitting in our car with the engine on, or making calls while Walmart shopping. The neighbors, all friendly and helpful, use Verizon without any issue. This is why we gave it 4 stars. We loved paddling the canoe behind the rustic house in the crystal clear canal teeming with fish and birds. We loved the fire pit which we stoked weekly, the quiet fridge, quiet a/c, quiet community, and the comfy bed. It's rural, so we explored, walked the countryside discovering interesting things, creatures and people. Netflix was not included, so we added it ourselves through the smart tv, and also about 30 DVDs were provided.
