Restful

A very nice cabin in a quiet wooded location a few miles outside Luray. We stayed for three nights over the 4th of July holiday and had a great time. Highly recommended.

Eh. Wouldn’t book again.

It was an ok stay. Definitely not worth the money though. Communication with owner wasn’t good, always came off as rude. Wasn’t the cleanest. Also wish there had been something to say what was near by. Was told about the river but when you go to it there’s all private property signs so what we thought we’d be able to enjoy we couldn’t. Overall disappointing stay and a waste of money.

Great cabin in the woods

The cabin was very clean and comfortable. The hot tub was wonderful after a day of hiking in the National Park. We also loved all of the birds in the trees around the cabin and hearing the sounds of the river.

Fantastic Weekend Getaway!

The cabin was spacious, clean, and perfect for a short weekend getaway from the city. Great location, with Luray just a short distance away. Only challenge would be keeping the cabin cool in the middle of the summer as the AC doesn't work particularly well. Andrea was very responsive to my questions prior to booking. Will definitely be staying here again!

Sweet getaway.

My husband and I both loved this property. The location was absolutely beautiful. The set up of the house was sweet and very quaint for the 2 of us. Everything we needed was provided for cooking and linens so we didn't have to worry about packing those things. The only issue we did have was a bit of cleanliness. With it being a log house spider webs are expected but there were water bottles left under beds and glasses weren't thoroughly cleaned. Just a few small things of that sort minus that we would absolutely stay again. The host was amazing with details and check in.

Cute Cabin

My husband, adult daughter and I enjoyed our few days in this very clean forest cabin. The kitchen had everything I needed to make a few meals. We had fun in the hot tub and made a nice fire (bring your own wood) at night. I wouldn’t recommend this for families with small children or people who have mobility issues because of the stairs but it’s a gem of a find everyone else.

Quiet and Beautiful

Staying at this property was absolutely wonderful! We decided to have a quiet weekend indoors, but there were a ton of different activities we could have done if we chose. Check-in was super smooth, and the house was exactly as advertised online. The house also had good internet connection and a tv with subscription services available. I would definitely come back during the spring/summer to take advantage of the river and local hiking. Thank you, Andrea!

Rural tranquility

Overall we enjoyed our stay in the cabin. This was our second time visiting. We love the location in the woods close to Shenandoah National Park. The cabin is cute and the location feels very private and quiet. The last time we were there firewood was provided but was not this time. We were also bothered by the strong air freshener used by the cleaning service that lingered for days.

Anniversary vacation

Very cozy, comfortable cabin. Everything I expected and more! Quiet area, except for the sounds of nature, roosters crowing, and a distant train. Cabin was exceptionally clean and nicely decorated. Kitchen was great, as others have commented. Mattresses were comfortable. Internet spotty, but worked with it, but also expected. No cell service. Firepit very nice.

Cute cabin .. Not as remote as it appears .. Actually in a community of others .. Listing mentions firewood in cooler months for inside but inside is a gas fireplace .. Little disappointing .. Great place to do nothing if you want .. Be sure to have everything you need with you

Not worth the price

With all the additional charges this place is not worth it.. My two night stay ended up being 800+ with half of it being just initial fees. When we arrived and the cabin bathroom did not drain well so you shower in dirty water and sheets were stained. And we checked the guest book and this has happened in the past. And then because of a 2 towels on the floor and beer bottles in the kitchen we got another 150$ fee. What a scam. Do not recommend this experience.

Started great but left disappointed

The new place was nice, quaint and peaceful, bu not without some problems. There’s was a indoor bug issue, no outdoor picnic table, and the internet was worse than cell service (TV relied on internet to stream content). After our trip, I contacted the owner and have since been ghosted. The location was nice, the hot top worked and was recently serviced. The fire pit and outdoor grill work great and the indoor air conditioning was perfect. Instructions were provided, check in and checkout was a breeze. Be aware it’s mostly a wooded property and the yard is a hill. Our dog enjoyed the place, but the hill made it difficult for our toddler to be free. I’m a pretty understanding individual but was disappointed in this property. We have stayed within this neighborhood before and like it.

Peaceful stay but a few items to note if staying here

We stayed in this cute cabin for 5 days. It was 2 adults and a 12 year old child. PROS: clean, well decorated (minimal cozy), peaceful, remote, kitchen space was wonderful (nice pots and pans, dishes, utensils). Beautiful porch. Nice fire pit area. CONS: 1) hot tub was gross; hot tub was the reason we booked here. The night before we left a company came to clean it, but we were already half packed, so we never got to use the hot tub. Very disappointing. 2) Tub doesn’t drain well at all. Be prepared for ankle deep water when you shower. 3) there is zero level ground on the property. Pictures appear misleading- as it’s a challenge for older people or children to navigate up and down the yard from the fire pit and hot tub. My son sprained his ankle pretty bad, coming up the hill. There should be some mention of this in the listing, as I imagine many people would find this challenging. 4) there are no bedrooms on main floor. This wasn’t a big deal till we had a mobility issue (sons sprained ankle) so we had to carry him up and down the stairs which are wood and very steep. 5) bedroom upstairs has no doors. 6) basement bedroom is very humid, even with a humidifier 7) internet is not reliable and cell service is nonexistent for Verizon customers (google-fi worked okay, though); TV uses internet so it’s spotty 8) this is obvious, but for someone that might not have much experience in a mountain setting- lots and lots and lots of bugs. 9) beds not very comfortable

Great place to unplug

Overall, this cabin was lovely and I'd recommend it. It was clean, bright during the day with cozy lighting at night. We enjoyed the fireplace, fire pit, hot tub, and watching the sun rise over the mountains from the porch. The kitchen had almost all the kitchenware one might need (we had to purchase a can opener), so it made cooking and eating in quite easy. It was a great place to get away and unplug. My rating of 4 stars as opposed to 5 comes from the following: - The walkway leading up to the front door was all ice when we arrived. My husband slipped and fell, and there was no salt on the property to put down. Check-in was at 4p, which in December is dusk. For a mountain-esque cabin in the winter, I would have expected the walkway to be cleared and salt available. - There were coffee grounds and old coffee left in the coffee pot. Unsure of for how long. Also, the listing said coffee was provided but there was only enough coffee for 2 days, and we were there 4 mornings total. - Tub drained v. slowly and hot water for shower lasted approx. 14 mins before turning cold. - The mattress in the loft was old, saggy, and uncomfortable. Any time my husband rolled over when sleeping, I awoke from the springiness. - The loft space got incredibly hot - even with the heat off and upstairs window, open. - There was one log for the fire pit, and the remaining wood that was already in the fire pit was wet from the snow of the previous week. It was insufficient to effectively build and maintain a fire. - The WiFi connection was poor and unreliable. Service went in and out and not strong enough to support streaming. For me, this was perfectly fine as I would have preferred no TV in my cabin whatsoever, so again, it worked out! I'd say if you're not picky about your mattress and these other issues are resolved, then this is a great option for you! I can see it being ideal for two friends or two couples with the loft and basement bedrooms and the easy access to hiking.

The cabin was very cute and quaint. It wasn’t cleaned great! It was cob webs and the downstairs bedroom smelled like a wet basement. So we couldn’t use that room. Possibly having a humidifier down there will help with smell. The bathtub had the grimy dirt in between the cracks. A good comet and bleach will lift that dirt grime up. Other than that! It was in a good location and close to their downtown area. The house hot tub was amazing! The scenery was very nice! The kitchen was well equipped and we were able to cook everyday we were there and didn’t have to get anything. Would definitely stay again if they handled the items above for sure!!!

About the host

Hosted by Andrea With Mountain Whisper Cabins

Host profile image
Mountain Whisper Cabins was founded in 2005 after purchasing the cabin I grew up in and settling back into the Valley.

My mother moved to the Shenandoah Valley in 1969 with 3 children and 1 one the way. I was the one on the way. In the fall of 1970, My Uncle Joe, Aunt Jackie and my mother, Nancy, began Shenandoah River Outfitters with two old aluminum canoes and a dream.

Why they chose this property

The Falling Leaf was added to my cabin business in 2009. My, Uncle Joe, wrote, “[Shenandoah] I dipped my paddle in your life and you refreshed me.” The valley is a place to fill your soul in all the seasons, and I would like to share it with you.

What makes this property unique

Falling Leaf is the Quintessential Cabin nestled in the woods in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley and is walking distance to the Legendary Shenandoah River.
