We had a wonderful time at Cape Lookout…. very quiet, relaxing and secluded….yet nicely located for easy access to all that the Bar Harbor area has to offer….
Stayed with our kids ages 3-17. Very clean - which is a big one for me. Well equipped kitchen. Location was good. Very accessible to the main Acadia entrance, and the owner's book gives other suggestions of places to explore and restaurant suggestions as well. No a/c, which I think is pretty typical, but plenty of fans in the house. I would recommend this property and stay in it again.
Cape Lookout is a lovely property -- well located, spacious, and well stocked. Peter was a terrific communicator throughout the booking process and during our stay. I highly recommend this property.
Cape Lookout is fantastic. Location is superb and the owner was more than accommodating. We had a large family group in and out all day. The beach was fantastic and the proximity to Bar Harbor, restaurants, min-golf, etc. could not be better. Simply a great experience--highly recommended!
Loved this little chalet. Had everything we needed and the communication with Peter was excellent. Can’t believe all the mussels we collected right off our beach - what a feast! We had two bald eagles as neighbors that were around regularly. It was perfect to rent with The Overlook up the way, and it was safe and close enough that my little nieces could come down to visit on their own. My teenage daughter also asked me to mention the fuzzy blankets, the fans and heaters, and that the toilet paper was excellent. 😊 We would definitely stay again.
Great location. Everything we needed was provided plus some very fun treats like the espresso machine.

Beware of the Basement!
The Cape Lookout home was perfect, and we enjoyed our stay EXCEPT for the basement! The basement is where the 4th bedroom and 2nd bathroom are located and there is a severe mildew/mold problem that needs to be addressed professionally. Air fresheners are not the answer.
We shared our concerns with Peter immediately and continued to communicate with him daily and he claimed that he could never smell the odor and the previous guests did not mention anything. He came into the home several times during the week to inspect the basement, but he claimed to never be able to smell anything but the air freshener.
On Thursday, I started to wonder if Peter was being disingenuous with us. And sure enough I found a review on the “other rental website” from November 2022 complaining of the same mold odor. At this point I knew he was a dishonest person and I stopped communicating with him, he obviously didn’t care. What he does care about is reviews because low and behold on Friday Peter sent a text stating that “he thought something might be wrong with his sense of smell” and “he would be the next person staying there and he could take a closer look”.
Peter, you should educate yourself on the dangers of mildew! Mildew is a type of mold that can cause health issues, especially for those with allergies or respiratory problems.
House was very comfortable, and well-supplied. The property was serene and private; we never saw any other people, just the white-tailed deer. Excellent kitchen, and plenty of room for everyone inside and outside (deck, fire pit) the house.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay from the amazing waterviews and private location to the access to Acadia and downtown within a short 10 minute drive. The owner checked in with us upon arrival to ensure that we had everything we needed. The house was fully appointed with a well stocked kitchen(utensils, appliances, cookware and more). We would definitely stay here again with our adult children. Thank you for this fantastic listing (even better than the current photos depict).
Great location, amenities, gorgeous view and easy communication from the owner. We can’t recommend this home more. We are 2 couples who travel together and love that there were separate living areas.
The property owner created an absolutely wonderful booklet outlining places to go, things to do and best places to eat. He was spot on with all his recommendations. It took the worry out of choosing and made for a delightful vacation. The view from the enclosed patio was breathtaking. We were able to see the inlet, watch bald eagles, deer frolicking and just relax. This is a wonderful place to stay while visiting Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor.
We enjoyed a week of hiking, whale watching and relaxing with the Cape Lookout as our home base. The house is set into the woods with a view out to the bay from the spacious back porch and deck. Comfortable beds, nicely equipped kitchen, fans in each room, though we did not need them after our first night. Peter, our VRBO host, was a great resource and easy to reach.
One thing to note for future guests; there’s no access to the bay from the house (steep wooded slope, almost a cliff), but the Hadley Point beach is a short walk or two minute drive away. There’s a house user’s guide with lots of great suggestions for activities, and we can personally recommend Cookies, Pies & Such, where we got an amazing Triple Berry pie.
We had a wonderful week at the Cape Lookout at Shore Haven! The property is in a great location with lovely views and just a short drive to downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The house was very clean and the kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed during our stay. We hope to go back for another visit soon!
Peter and Sean manage a great property. Kitchen has everything you need. BedS were new and very comfortable. Beautiful view of lake for morning coffee and meditation. Smartly decorated, clean and includes washer and dryer. 10 minutes to everything and a semi private beach 1/2 mile away. Loved it!!
Lovely place, extremely quiet but quite convenient to everywhere in the area. The house is fairly close to downtown, but also close to the roads to get to the quiet side of the island. We stayed there when there was still work being done to the home, so if you are reading this, it is likely even better than we stayed. The house was clean and we enjoyed the water view- it is not a sweeping view, but still quite lovely. There is a shared access to the beach area to spend time along the quiet shoreline. Excellent communication with the owner.

About the host
Hosted by Peter Miano
After years of being a guest in other people's vacation homes on Mt. Desert Island, I decided it was time to become a host. It was a long search to find the right location and the right lodgings. I enjoy welcoming people to MDI, sharing our vacation lodgings, and knowing that they've enjoyed their family vacations while staying at Shore Haven
Why they chose this property
After a long search, I found a perfect location on the northern part of Mt. Desert Island in a quiet, secluded part of Bar Harbor. I added the Cape Lookout to the other three lodgings to make seven acres and 650 feet of shore front. The Cape Lookout is secluded from the others. You will enjoy elevated, long views of Frenchman Bay from the dining room and sun porch, the upstairs bedrooms, from the deck, and from the fire pit area which has seating for eight people. In spring and fall, you can hear loons every morning and evening along with a wide variety of other singing birds.
What makes this property unique
The Cape Lookout is in a secluded, quiet forest on Hadley Point. It is only a six minute drive to the nearest entrance to Acadia National Park and enjoys easy access to the rest of Acadia and both side of Mt. Deseret Island. The village of Bar Harbor and all it has to offer is about a ten minute drive. Within a couple minutes drive, you can enjoy some of the best lobster pounds around, the best location for pies and pastries, a few great restaurants, one of the island's best restaurants for pizza, and a bbq restaurant and that is just for starters. Or, you can cook just about everything you would like from our well equipped kitchen. There is also a gas grill on the deck.
