Located within walking distance to Bar Harbor's downtown village shops and bustling oceanfront offering whale watches, cruises, guided tours, and lively island culture! Your adventures await as you grab your backpack and head out the front door. The Rockcairn is just a block away from Bar Harbor's new playground, ball fields, YMCA, Skate park, and Island Explorer free shuttle bus into Acadia National Park. If you plan to visit the Park by car you can access the Park's loop road in less than a mile from your driveway .If you are outdoor enthusiasts like us, you will love to check out the miles of coastal walks, mountain hikes, and carriage road biking trails all at your fingertips! Don't forget to paddle and swim one of the tranquil lakes and waterways the Island has to offer. When you are done adventuring step into any one of the 80 locally owned restaurants, pubs, and coffee shops. The Rockcairn offers guests a themed 4 bedroom house inspired by our favorite places in Acadia National Park. Upon arrival, claim the "Hunters Beach " room if you love the coast. You may also find the serenity of the "Seven Bridges" room or dive into the King Sized Bed in the "South Ridge" room. Kids may enjoy ascending the staircase into " The Treehouse" or lounging on the office couch in "The Beehive" on the third floor. Some of the other amenities that The Rockcairn offers are a full kitchen with new appliances and a large dining room table for when you your family and guests decide to dine in. There is off street parking for two cars in the driveway. Your hosts Ed and Sherri live locally nearby and have many years of experience traveling and adventuring all over this island, and love to share this knowledge with fellow explorers. We even have a few secret spots so don't hesitate to inquire. The property gets it's name from the sculptural rock formations only found on Mount Desert Island, and the Scottish Gaelic word "cairn" which is a pile of stones used as landmarks to guide travelers. Cairns are used throughout the rocky alpine areas in Acadia. Let The Rockcairn be your home base as you create your own memories while traveling to one of the most unforgettable landscapes on the planet. We'll see you where the mountains meet the sea... set your compass!
