Quiet and peaceful property with an amazing view. The hosts were very responsive and helpful. Comfortable living room with a fireplace. The spacious screened porch had plenty of seating. The hammock down by the water was a wonderful place for a nap. The kitchen was well-stocked, with sharp knives and plenty of cutting boards. A washer and dryer are a real plus. We saw many ducks, loons, osprey, and eagles. Two deer walked through the yard the morning we were leaving.
We had a great stay at the McConchie's cottage in Spruce Head! You couldn't ask for a prettier location, as it sits only feet from the water in a quiet and private area on the cove! The screened-in porch was great -- large and comfortable, but more importantly, it kept us away from the nasty mosquitos while allowing us to enjoy the beautiful views of the water and coastline. Spruce Head is a beautiful area to stay with close proximity to Rockland and Camden (a plus). We were happy to have the Craignair Inn just 1/4 mile down the road from the cottage, where we enjoyed at least two delicious meals! And big bonus that McLoon's Lobster Shack -- a favorite of ours and among the best in Maine -- is less than 10 minutes down the road! The home had everything we needed and provided a relaxing and comfortable living area to enjoy after long days of exploring the mid-coast. Though we were only a family of three, the cottage has plenty of room even if it's a full house. The fact that it is dog-friendly was a big plus too! We appreciate that the McConchie family has opened up their home for rental. My only other notes are: 1) the cleaning was OK, but it could benefit from a more vigorous cleaning, and 2) I thought I understood there to be at least one king or queen sized bed in one of the rooms, but it seems like the larger beds are just full/double sized. And the mattresses could use replacing. But overall, the home is very comfortable and we appreciate it's rustic charm!
We always enjoy our stay … terrific location, great ocean views are breathtaking and variable, fishing boats going out to sea at night and returning in morning, warm and inviting cottage make a perfect vacation for 5 friends and Charlie, the beloved dog.

Cozy cottage , beautiful views, nicely decorated, nice bed linens.
Charming cottage with stunning ocean views. Check-in was easy and house has everything you need. Walking distance to hiking trails and sandy beach. Can’t wait to stay again!
We loved our stay! The cottage is such a throwback to when beach homes were cozy, just the right quaint size, and were all about time outside, painting, puzzles, reading a good book with a fantastic view. The location is private, quiet, and you can hear the waves day or night. Our dogs especially loved the screened porch and walks on the practically carless road. The home has retained a lot of its charm from the past -- creaky cupboards and throwback tiles etc., my only notes would be it could use a few more cereal bowls (ha) and perhaps a vigorous dusting, but overall it's wonderful, five star(fish) from us. Thanks again!

Hi Michelle,
Thank you so much for your review! You touched on all of the things that are what we love about the house as well! And we'll be sure to grab some more cereal bowls ;)
Excellent location, close to Rockland and all the fun things! Cottage is nice and quiet, with perfect views of the water. We took a ton of walks around the area, enjoyed all the food, and just relaxed. Thanks for having us!
Excellent location, convenient to terrific dining a stroll away. Stunning views. Fabulous screen porch over looking the ocean. Long scenic walks to enjoy every day. Maine bedroom mattresses are due for replacement, but tolerable. In need of some deferred maintenance and not as clean are we prefer but overall a terrific week. We appreciate the opportunity to vacation in your home. Raymond

Beautiful views and location
The locations and views were perfect. Great combination of quiet and accessibility to restaurants and Rockland. The house needs to be thoroughly cleaned, a good plumber, and new linens. Otherwise, a great layout.
Always a delight to stay in this spot. Sitting by the water and watching the birds and whatever else may pass by, Blueberry Margaritas at the Craignair after a walk in Clark Island, ice cream in Port Clyde... Very homey place and easy to live there!

We love the location and the setup is great for our family. We have been doing a family vacation since 2005 and we started with this cottage in 2014 and look forward to every year. Pet friendly and children friendly. Can't wait till next year.

Having you come back year after year is enough to almost consider you family! Thank you for the nice review.
Our family enjoyed our two-week stay in the cottage. Check-in was easy, communication with the host was also very simple. The neighborhood was quiet. We enjoyed sitting on the back porch and listening to the ocean. We got to see an eagle land on the large tree in the backyard. We also saw a family of otters playing on the rocks. We had an issue with one of the bathrooms, and it was taken care of promptly. This is our tenth year vacationing on the peninsula, and we are so grateful to the McConchie family for sharing their special place with us.
It’s a nice little place, a bit dated and in need of some deferred maintenance. It’s quite comfy, for two people. Any more than that, depending upon age and relationship, it could be a challenge with only 1 1/2bathrooms. For a winter getaway, it was ideal for us. Bedroom window views of the water are superior.
The view was perfect. Had it been warmer we would have lived on the back porch, but it was a bit on the chilly side. The house was warm and comfortable. We had a wonderful time traveling the area.

Why they chose this property
Ownership now resides in Trust for a third generation and soon a fourth, ensuring family use for more generations to come. This is a classic Maine cottage, built in the 1950s in that style that has almost disappeared due to the high cost of waterfront land and the McMansions being built as the original cottages disappear. Fifty feet from the water's edge, with a screened porch enabling sitting outside and listening to the ocean, the cottage has been thoroughly updated and modernized, but still captures that era when waterfront cottages were part of nature, not castles to sit in and look out at it. Everything one needs for lobster and clam cookouts on the rocks, barbecues plus a fire-pit for s'mores, and views across to Clark Island and the open sea. Large windows from the bedrooms on the ocean side offer views unchanged from the day it was built. Watch the lobster boats right out front; kayak from right out front, or just watch the constant activity of the seagulls, seals, osprey, fox, deer, even an occasional moose and a family of eagles. This is the heart and the essence of mid-coast Maine living. 'Maine, the way life ought to be.'
What makes this property unique
This cottage offers a chance to relive the New England and Maine lifestyle from the middle of the last century. Thoroughly modernized, with cable, large Sony TV, internet, WII, Blueray and a charming fireplace and stacks of wood right outside. At the same time, you are a fifteen minute drive away from the towns and villages in the heart of mid-coast Maine.
