The property is ideal for a relaxing lake stay. When the lake is calm - which it often is - there is a zen like peacefulness to the cottage. In addtion the cottage is clean, comfortable and the owners are easy to communicate with and are helpful and friendly.
Had everything we needed . The beach and dock area are very nice . The deck needs a lot of work and to be painted , but was still enjoyable to sit out .
We lived everything about this property. It's charming and comfortable. The lake is heavenly, and we enjoyed paddling and fishing from the dock. Thank you, Paula and Pete, for allowing us to enjoy this lovely getaway lake house!
We found the cottage exactly what we needed- cozy, clean, spacious and it had a great view! We would definitely stay again!

Thank you for your lovely review- so happy you enjoyed your stay! You were among our quietest guests...not even a single peep out of you! We would most certainly welcome you back to Heron Cove any time.
Our family had a great time! Great location close to everything we needed and some good local hikes nearby. Hosts left some welcome gifts which were much appreciated and they were responsive when we reached out. Hosts live nearby which I think is a huge bonus when booking a stay.

Watching your girls on the water was a complete delight! We so appreciated your graciousness and flexibility during the (thankfully brief!) power outage. Many thanks for choosing Heron Cove- we would be glad to host a return visit!
This was our third stay at the cottage and once again it was a great visit. Clean, comfortable cottage with lots of fun to be had on the water. Hosts are very helpful and close by if you need anything during your stay. We look forward to returning next year!
Perfect little cottage on lake to relax and unwind at in evening after our daily fall excursions. Had a great weekend. Owners were very friendly, and promptly responded to the one question we called them about.

Cute, cozy cottage right on the lake. We had access to stand up paddle boards, kayaks and a canoe. Nice little dock to fish off of. Owners were very helpful and were only a phone call away. We highly recommend this property to any families or couples who want to relax by the lake. We loved it!
We stayed here with our 7yr. old grandson . The cottage is lovely and the hosts clearly put in extra effort to make the stay cozy , comfortable and welcoming . Swimming , fishing , kayaking as well as nearby attractions make this a perfect vacation spot!

The cottage was comfy and well appointed with Paula and Pete as super responsive and helpful hosts. We spent nearly 2 months and felt so at home. A wonderful experience! Sunsets were magnificent as were the stats! Would definitely book again!
This cottage is very comfortable and cozy! We so enjoyed the two bright open rooms with the beautiful view of the water. Sitting on the deck looking at the evening sky was an added bonus. The fishing was great along with the kayaking, canoeing and swimming. The spacious out door shower was nice to have at the end of the day. This was a great place for a fun and relaxing vacation. Thank you Paula and Pete for sharing your cottage and being wonderful hosts.

Our son and granddaughter live in Dover so we always find a place to stay so we can visit. This was one of our favorites. Right on bear lake beautiful sunsets the water was warm enough to swim. There was kayaks there to use. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans, dishes, seasoning. We had a great time. Just be careful driving in the road is pretty rough.

So happy to hear you enjoyed your stay! Thank you for leaving the cottage in good order prior to your departure.
Condition of the road varies based on how recently it was maintained- it is generally put off until the worst of the spring rain is over. I'm sorry you were here while it was not at it's best!
We had a great time at Heron Cove. The house is clean and super cozy, with lots of nice spaces to hang out and enjoy the view. The North River Lake is clean and nice to swim in. The hosts left us paddle boards and kayaks and we had a great time on the water. The lake is so beautiful, and since it was July 4th we even got to see fireworks. Our family had a wonderful time. The hosts were so helpful when we had questions about the area. I recommend this lake house for a beautiful and comfortable stay by the lake.
This was our 2nd year visiting Heron Cove and we are already talking about next year's visit. Pete and Paula are amazing hosts and make sure you have everything you need. The cottage is in great condition and is such a peaceful place. The waterfront lot is ideal for children as it's just a couple of steps into the water and the perfect place to swim. Fishing, water sports and just relaxing on the deck taking in the beautiful view were some of our favorite activities. Great memories are made here!

Melissa and her son are wonderful guests who make the most of their time on the lake- enjoying swimming and floating as much as possible! They are clean, quiet, happy guests who took a risk staying with us last summer- before Heron Cove was completely finished- and we were absolutely delighted to welcome them back again this year! (And we already can't wait to see them again next year either!)
This was the perfect spot for us to stay while visiting family in the area. We enjoyed kayaking, fishing, grilling out and enjoying nature. Coffee on the deck and the outdoor shower was the perfect way to start the day! We did not have time to use the outdoor fire pit, but fully intend to on our next stay.
Pete & Paula were wonderful hosts. They checked in on us, made sure we had everything we needed, and were extremely welcoming. Communication was quick and helpful.
We highly recommend this property and look forward to our next stay at Heron Cove!

Faye and her family were the perfect guests at our rental this summer! We appreciated their flexibility, quiet occupancy, and the clean state in which they left our cottage property. Faye even left US a lovely thank you note!
I would recommend Faye to any future VRBO without reservation! I really hope to see her and her family again the next time they visit NH.
The cottage at heron cove was just what I was looking for to enjoy a few days away to reset and unwind. The cottage is equipped with Everything you need for your stay. It was clean and has an amazing view of the lake. It was enjoyable to have my coffee on the deck or sit out by the water watching the locals pass by with their boats, jet ski, paddle boards and kayaks. I was able to get out on the water to paddle board before the rain started. So relaxing. I also hiked out to Winnie the Poo trail. This is an easy enjoyable hike that is so adorable and fun for all. The grocery stores, gas and shopping are only a hop, skip and a jump away. I would definitely rent this cottage again. Paula and Pete were awesome hosts. They provided the perfect getaway, were accommodating and provided great communication.

Chantel made a last minute booking and we are so very glad she did. She was a perfect guest- quiet and respectful of our neighbors and left the rental virtually immaculate! We hope you return for another visit!
My family and I had a wonderful stay. The host was exceptionally responsive, 10/10, to any and all questions before and during our week's stay, including addressing any concerns and always got back quickly and was highly accommodating. We arrived to a nice welcome gift basket, which set the tone for a wonderful stay. Check in couldn't have been easier.
The cottage has plenty of seating inside, including a table-bar facing the windows overlooking the lake. We enjoyed the out-door shower very much. It has a wonderful camp feel yet doesn't lack comforts of home either. The pictures undersell the wonderful cottage. We did notice the paint on the railing of the deck is coming off very significantly, but we were careful/mindful of it and didn't have children. The bed was fairly comfortable, a bit on firmer side.
The lake is modest size and the weekend has a fair amount of motor boats, some of which circle around the cottage's end of the lake sometimes had a little less than respectful speed/wake for the area's size but in fairness, there's not a no-wake zone sign. During the week was much quieter in terms of the larger speed boats. The owner graciously provided 2 kayaks and 2 paddle-boards. We were on the lake every day.
1.5 miles down rt 202, there's a Selt owned area (Stonehouse Pond) with great hiking trails and a high ledge overlooking a beautiful pond and a rock-beach and jumping rock as well.
We had a brief, nice stay. Owner/property manager was very responsive to any questions. Property was clean and very well stocked in the kitchen. Back bedroom was a little too cold at this time of the year, even with the central heating. Appreciated this rustic cottage but would recommend informing renters that walls do not go to the ceiling in all of the rooms
A couple friends and i wanted to get out of PA for a lil while. We decided to come to NH to see what was up north and we were not disappointed. The air up there is so clean and crisp. The lake is beautiful and clear. Awesome wildlife and not to far from maine and they coast. Fun time. Host were awesome. Nice little place to get away from people.
A wonderful get-away cottage on a nice little lake.
Pete and Paula were wonderful hosts and they've made the cottage very comfortable and welcoming. It was a great place to escape the real world for a little while, to spend time in their canoe and kayaks, and read out on the lawn chairs next to the water. S'mores over the fire pit and swimming off the dock were some other favorite activities.
We live in the country, so the trucks and motorcycles on Rt. 202 across the cove (200 yards away) were louder than what we're used to at home, so that's something I would want another visitor to share in a review, but I think most people aren't accustomed to the quiet that we are, and might not even notice the vehicles passing by.
We highly recommend Pete and Paula's cottage on North River Lake.

About the host
Hosted by Paula
My husband Pete and myself have been on North River Lake since 2017 and have made it our full-time home. We love the warm summer waters, the visiting wildlife, and the friendly neighbors! We are happy to be close to Heron Cove to accommodate guest needs as they arise. And we LOVE hearing our youngest guests enjoy themselves as they leap off the dock and play in the water.
Why they chose this property
We enjoy how peaceful the lake is in the early morning and watching the changing seasons through the windows. It is a lovely place to call home and we hope that you will find Heron Cove a warm and welcoming environment throughout your stay.
What makes this property unique
Heron Cove is a space that makes me feel good- and I hope it does the same for our guests. The property is pretty and private; the lake is warm and calm. I hope our renters enjoy their stays to the fullest- having active, sun-soaked days and peaceful, relaxed evenings. Enjoy time with the people that you love.
