Charming 3-Bedroom House Near Village and Olympic Venues

Allplay, a classic mid-century cottage, is beautifully situated on nearly 1.5 acres of landscaped grounds where views of the Sentinel Range peek through the trees. The house has been lovingly furnished in a combination of classic Danish modern and quality rustic pieces, with hardwood floors and beautiful rugs throughout. Its quiet but convenient location and charming interior make Allplay a unique and cherished retreat. Built by well-known New York architect Ronald Allwork for his own family, the house is located at the base of Cobble Hill, about a 1.5 mile walk into the center of Lake Placid village. Note that the house has a near neighbor, a cottage that was the original garage for the house.

Allplay features 3 bedrooms (2 with queen, 1 with bunk beds), 2 full baths (1 with whirlpool tub), den with flat-panel TV (with cable service) and DVD player, living room with fireplace, and dining room. There is a high-speed internet connection with wi-fi hub. The kitchen is fully equipped (we love to cook), and a clothes washer and dryer are located in the basement.

We really enjoyed this cozy home nestled in the woods. Location is ideal with Lake Placid downtown around the corner, and on the main road to Whiteface. The space is much larger than the photos showed. The home was very clean and communication from host was detailed and easy.

Great stay at a beautiful place

Lovely home

Rustic Holiday

Our family took a trip to Lake Placid for a few days and needed a spot that wasn't in the middle of everything, but still close by. This spot was perfect for us! A lot of space, easily designed to sleep 6 people. It snowed around 2.5ft, but the shovel outside the house helped us clear the pathway on the porch. Everything was easily accessible in the house! Beautiful property!

My family and I had an enjoyable stay. The home was situated in a perfect location - close to town and close to Whiteface Mountain. A perfect place to enjoy Lake Placid

My daughter, friends and I were in town for two weeks for the annual Lake Placid Horse Show. For long stays like this, it is so nice to have a home to go back to each evening. The house was 6 minutes from the show, 5 minutes from town. Near golf, the lake, hiking, shops, etc. I would stay there again next year.

Winter get-away!

We had a wonderful stay at Allplay! The house was exceptionally clean, and very comfortable. Plenty of space to spread out for the four of us. Kitchen was fully stocked with everything needed. Wonderful to sit by the fire after a great day of skiing and exploring the area! Owner was responsive and made the process of renting very easy! Can't wait to return!

Your clean, comfortable and cozy home was the perfect home base for our family for all that Lake Placid has to offer! The convenience to downtown, Whiteface and all the Olympic venues allowed us to enjoy skiing, ice skating, ski jumping and more. Your home was so generously appointed with everything we could possibly need for a wonderful stay and your wood furniture was absolutely exquisite. I'd rather keep this house a secret, but in fairness to the owners, who deserve the good review... This three-bedroom house is exceptional for the price. It has comfortable beds, is very tastefully decorated (Adirondack/midcentury), and has nice-sized rooms. The vintage kitchen on first glance might put off some people, but if you appreciate style and cooking you will realize that it has everything you need to cook great meals and we really appreciated the midcentury aesthetic. This is not an a VRBO "flip" house, but a a vacation home that feels like a labor of love by owners who have great taste.

Winter getaway

This house is amazing! Super clean, has everything you need. Charming, such attention to detail, warm an inviting. True gem, we appreciated all the beautiful wood work including beautiful furnishings. Location spot on, close to the center, yet private and quiet. We would like to stay longer, we didn’t want to leave. Owners are great, very quick to respond to our inquiries. I really didn’t want to write this review, because I want to keep this gem secret and all to myself. Highly recommend. If I ever go back to the area, I’ll be the only place I want to stay!

Perfect!

My husband and I were in Lake Placid for the lacrosse Summit with our 3 children. Unfortunately, all the hotels were completely booked. When I found this listing it seemed almost too good to be true. However, it didn’t nearly do it justice. The house was perfect. It was immaculate, there was plenty of space, and somehow it seemed to be 5-6 minutes from pretty much everything including the town, fields, food stores ect. by car (15 -20 minute walk to the town). Judy provided us with all the information we needed and was reachable by phone if necessary. We had a great stay!.

Ironman Stay

I booked the property due to my participation in Ironman Lake Placid 2023. The house was perfect for my family and in-laws who came along to cheer me on. The house is conveniently located allowing access to a parking lot directly on the run/bike course. My family could walk from the house to the bike course and then simply make a short drive to the village for all the Main Street activities. The host was supper responsive to all my questions and the property was clean and accurate to its listing description. I loved the large, open parking and basement which were extremely convenient for my racing needs. The kitchen appliances were all updated and allowed us to comfortably cook many of our meals in prior to my race. Also loved the ample yard for the kids to run/play. Absolutely would recommend this property for anyone looking to participate in future IMLP events.

Beautiful House/Wonderful Weekend/Misleading Photos of Surroundings

The House is wonderful inside and furnished beautifully. It is very well cared for, clean, and stocked with everything you could need for a weekend, week, or month stay. Plenty of extra clean linens, blankets, and towels filled 2 linen closets. The kitchen is very well stocked for cooking, morning coffee, etc. There is not any room in the cupboards for anything, though. *The photos of the home and surrounding land are quite beautiful, but they leave one important thing out. They are taken in a way as to omit everything surrounding the house- the other houses! From the photos, we thought we were going to be pulling up to a private, secluded setting. That is not the case. There is another house practically on top of this house which actually even shares that stone sidewalk pictured in the photos. It's literally 10 feet away and if the blinds on the front of the house are open (along the dining room, huge picture window above the jetted tub in the bathroom, and one of the bedrooms) you are staring right into someone else's house. Same vise versa. Every photo of the outside of the house cuts it out just so, but the house is to the front left if you're looking at the photos taken of the front yard. That said, we did not have any issues...it was just a surprise we were not expecting, and not extremely happy about. Owner is very nice, easy to contact, responsive, and very accomodating. Overall a wonderful stay in a beautiful home!

Tranquility in the Woods

The house is in a lovely setting in the woods. It was quiet and beautiful.. We enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels. There is a view from every window. The house is well appointed with nice furnishings. It is spacious and open. The kitchen is well supplied. We had everything we needed to have our family over for dinner. I felt right at home

relaxing stay for our family

We had a wonderful time in Lake Placid at this fabulus little house! Days were busy at a lacrosse tournament but the nights were perfect to come back and have the space to enjoy some down time. The house had everything we needed which made the stay even better. Short drive to everything in town and around the lake!

Avid hikers and cross-country skiers, we fell in love with the High Peaks of the Adirondacks more than 30 years ago. We live in Center City Philadelphia in our 'real' lives. Now retired, Judy used to own a consulting and software company that worked with employee-owned (ESOP) companies, and Al was, a management consultant and strategic planner. We try to get to Lake Placid as often as we can!

Why they chose this property

We love the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, and we found ourselves returning there frequently, even though we love to travel to new places. Lake Placid offers access to the High Peaks trails and wilderness, while providing lots of other activities to entertain us.

What makes this property unique

Allplay is our dream house - cozy, elegant and peaceful. We fell in love with it the minute we walked in the door. It feels like an oasis with its big trees and sweeping front lawn. (There are awesome mountain views behind the trees, but the trees are so tall now that you can barely see the mountains.) It's walking distance to the village but away from the hustle and bustle.

We've furnished it with a combination of Danish modern and handcrafted rustic pieces, and we just love being there. We can hike or snowshoe up Cobble Hill, right across the street, or we can easily get to Adirondack Loj, Mt. Van Hoevenberg, or Whiteface, all within a 10 to 15 minute drive.

One of the things we really like about the house is that the TV is in the den, and the fireplace is in the living room - so Judy can sit by the fire and read while Al watches old movies. We also enjoy gathering food at the local farmers markets and cooking at leisure - the kitchen is fully equipped with good knives, good pots and pans, etc., so cooking is a pleasure.
