Fun place to stay! Would have been extra cool to add some coastguard touches to the decor to make it a little more authentic feeling, but overall worth the stay!
We loved this place! It’s very relaxing and Sean was so welcoming. The house was extremely clean, right next to great beaches and walkable to town. We’ve stayed at many rentals and they’re rarely as nice as the pictures, this one was better than expected we can’t wait to return!
Cool location next to McCarty’s Cove and walkable distance to downtown Marquette. I would say the only downside is the amount of people that walk through the yard to find their way to the beach. Great otherwise!
We are truly glad we stayed here. So very peaceful.

It was fun to stay in this historic building. We loved being so close to the water and local attractions. It was perfect for most of my party. My 90 year old father would have had a very hard time in this house due to all the bedrooms and bathroom are upstairs. The stairs are somewhat narrow and they split. The handrail is not continuous all the way up. I think this is important to note for future travelers considering this property. There is plenty of room in the dining/living area and a well- stocked kitchen. The beds were very comfortable. There is a nice outdoor space. Parking and finding the property was confusing to us as the building in not numbered. It would be helpful if the number "400" was displayed in large letters on the building. We tried to get into the building next door and thought we had the wrong code. (It was the coast guards building). Other than that, we loved our stay and would recommend this place to others.
The Captains Quarters is incredibly clean, updated to perfection and beyond comfortable! We had a great time! The views of Lake Superior are incredible and the lighthouse is amazing as well! We stayed here during the May snowstorm and still loved every minute of our stay! You can see the Lake from every window in the house! The Kitchen and bathroom is brand new and perfect! We will definitely return!
This house is gorgeous! The view from every window is stunning. Sean the city manager was so kind and fantastic to work with. I didn’t realize there wasn’t a downstairs bathroom, that was a mistake on my part for not reading the listing properly, and stairs are kinda steep so make sure you’re aware, but these are minor things that should not at all impact your decision to stay here - everything with this property is worth it!
It was so fun staying in a house with such great history! I had forgotten that the house didn’t have AC so I was a little worried, but it was completely fine. Having the windows open and with Lake Superior so close, it stayed nice & cool and then we had the added bonus of hearing the waves crash! The entire home was extremely clean and Sean was very responsive to my few questions. I would definitely recommend!
We spent five nights at the Captain's Residence, and had a truly excellent stay. The house itself is well appointed and renovated with great care. The location is second-to-none; beautiful rocky shore to the south, and McCarty's Cove a short walk out the backyard. Because of its placement on the point, the wind and air flow through the house is extremely comfortable. We were incredibly comfortable and delighted. Highly recommended!
