About this property
Cozy Cottage on Applegate River Micro-Farm at Vineyards.15 Min to Jacksonville
One room cottage on a 5-acre, river-front, micro-farm near 19 vineyards on the Applegate Wine Trail. This is a recently renovated, cozy cottage on "Red Barn Farm" on the Applegate River. Enjoy a micro farm-stay experience with goats, chickens and vegetables along the Applegate Valley Wine Trail (walk to Red Lily Vineyards!), hike area nature trails, or just sit by the river and breath. We are 15 minutes from the gold-rush town of Jacksonville, home of the Britt Summer Music Festival. (LGBTQ & Black Lives Matter)
The space:
The land is yours. Explore the grounds, walk down the Red Lily Road to access our riverfront, enjoy lunch on your back deck or build a fire in the firepit. Walk across the bridge on our property to taste wine at Red Lily Vineyard during their business hours.
Guest access:
Cottage, Barnyard, fire-pit area, drive way, and river front. Stroll the pasture but keep all gates closed!!! Walk down the Red Lily road to reach our riverfront. The main house is the host's private residence. The two homes are separated by a wide driveway.
Other things to note:
Great news: recently got high speed fiber optic internet! Woohoo! Work and stream like a pro from here.
The house is located in the front of the property near the road. There is traffic noise during the day. Birds & frogs sing at night.
It is a short walk down the Red Lily road to the serene river front.
Guests may use the river at their own risk. Inexperienced river tubers must keep their tubes tied to the property. Children and non-swimmers must wear a life vest. There is no lifeguard on the river. Host is not liable for any accidents or injuries.
The barn, located across the barnyard from the cottage, is also a unique vacation stay that sleeps 6. (Separate listing)
Extra day-guests must pay a $10 day-pass fee to use the river or other areas of the property. A maximum of 8 people are allowed to use the property at one time and all must be paying guests.
When they are on-site, you are welcome to feed the chickens (any kitchen scraps), and the goats (any green leaves).
Yes, you can fish for steelhead on our river! (with a valid fishing licence.)
PLEASE NOTE: Historic farms were built up by the wagon route, which is today Highway 238. Expect traffic noise during the day but it is very quiet at night.

About the host
Hosted by WENDY
I am a Journalist and Psychology Professor. On an seven-state car trip during the pandemic, seeking fresh air and wide open spaces, I became enchanted with the warmth of Southern Oregon's Applegate Valley. When I saw the former cattle farm with it's old red barn, I stopped in her tracks. It evoked memories of my happy childhood summers spent at my family dairy farm on Prince Edward Island, Canada. That's exactly the kind of feeling I like to inspire in my guests: the joy of country living, gazing over a lush pasture, diving into a cool river, eating fresh eggs, drinking clean well water, and petting cute goats. Welcome to country living.

What makes this property unique
It is rare to have river access in this area with an actual swimming hole. Most properties are private and the river is not open to the public.
