Indoor treehouse! Swivel fire pit & gas grill. Close to trails & attractions.
We are always improving for guests ~ Mach 2026 adding a new gas grill for outdoor cooking, but guests who want to be old school can still use the swivel fire pit to cook over wood or charcoal. The covered porch is perfect for hanging out in all weather with sliding cushioned rocker for morning coffee/tea or late night star gazing and picnic table for meals or charcuterie spread.
Recently renovated to add a master bath, laundry room, and create a kid friendly indoor treehouse out of attic storage space in the bedrooms, Mountain Grove is relaxing and fun during the fall, winter, spring or summer. Located in the heart of Laurel Highlands in a little neighborhood of Conservation Civilian Corps cabins less than one mile from Kooser State Park and nestled between Hidden Valley, Seven Springs and Laurel Mountain ski resorts, this family and pet friendly cabin in the woods has everything you need to enjoy an outdoor getaway. Travelers have enjoyed this cozy home in the mountains as a solo rejuvenating escape for 1, getaway for 2, a family vacation, or a get together with friends/extended family.
Nearby attractions include hiking, biking, skiing, fishing, golfing, star gazing, bird watching, cave exploring, restaurants, spas, amusement parks, a zoo, go carts and more. Enjoy the many trails and ponds nearby at Kooser (2 minute drive), Laurel Hill (7 minute drive) or Forbes (12 minute drive) State Parks. Bike the GAP trail at Rockwood just 15 minutes away. Check out the local resorts for food, golf, spas, ziplines, mountain biking, special events, skiing and more at Hidden Valley (5 minute drive), Seven Springs (17 minute drive), or Laurel Mountain (30 minute drive). Peruse the local towns of Somerset (15 minute drive), Ligonier (30 minute drive) or Ohiopyle (34 minute drive) for restaurants, shopping, white water rafting and trails. Local attractions also include Idlewild, Caddyshack, Living Treasures Animal Park, Laurel Caverns, Jennerstown Speedway, Fort Ligonier and more! Glade Pike Winery tasting room is just up the road with live music on Saturday nights as well. Check out laurelhighlands.com for more ideas.
Even though you will feel like you are in the middle of the woods in a peaceful setting, if you forget anything a gas station/convenience store is only a 2 minute drive away and a grocery store is only a 20 minute drive away. Once you settle in, you will enjoy a cozy, traditional cabin in the woods with spacious front deck, outdoor combo bonfire/grill (Charcoal or wood for cooking or simply relaxing. One bundle of wood is provided to start your vacation, but there are places nearby to purchase charcoal or more wood.), gas fireplace, and indoor treehouse for kids ideally ages 6 - 12.
Kids love climbing the stairs next to the tree mural because it feels like they are climbing into an indoor treehouse with repurposed wood accents on the walls. As you walk in, you will see a mini window above the kitchen area, so adults in the kitchen or living room downstairs can hear the kiddos playing upstairs or opt to close the window so the kids can sleep while parents still hang out downstairs. The creates a fun, spacious cabin for families.
Excellent WiFi service will help you stay connected to friends, family, and work (Gasp! Only if necessary...you should be relaxing!) or allow you to finally binge watch that series you always wanted to see.
A variety of games, cornhole on the front deck or in the yard, and the bonfire pit that can be used as a grill with wood or charcoal will help you stay entertained and unplug from screens too!
3 bedrooms and 2 baths accommodates a maximum of 8 people and 2 well behaved, house trained dogs. There is an additional $30 per night pet fee when fur family joins you at the cabin. Please be sure to check the pet box when booking to pay during your reservation, or you will need to pay it before your arrival.
If you have additional people or pets in your party, please message to inquire about also renting Blue Mountain Retreat (with terraced backyard including hot tub, bonfire circle, picnic table and gas grill also accommodating up to 8 people. See vrbo.com/3579454 ) adjacent to Mountain Grove. Multiple families have enjoyed renting both cabins for relaxing family reunions or birthday celebrations.
The location off of 31 makes it easily accessible year round, but far enough off the road to be peacefully tucked in the woods. A limit of 3 cars per cabin has to be maintained because there is no overflow parking available nearby (AWD or 4WD vehicles during the winter months of snow are required for ease of access). Visitors should be accounted for in your reservation.

When we checked in we were greated by a fresh and bright cabin. The decor was very enjoyable and the couches and beds were very comfortable.the kitchen is well stocked and made for great mornings to make our breakfast and take our coffees on to the porch. Our host was on top of any of our needs no matter how small! It was a very relaxing and much needed get away.

Thank you, Jeremy, for renting both Blue Mountain Retreat and Mountain Grove simultaneously so you could share amenities at each cabin with family but also have space to spread out comfortably and relax on vacation together. My brother and I or my best friend and I have done this too with our families, and it is so nice to let the kids hang out together in the indoor treehouse, bonfire area or hot tub but then have downtime at bedtime and morning wake up to ourselves. It is so relaxing to have our own houses but also shares spaces to enjoy. So happy you loved it too! Please come again!
The amenities were wonderful and the host was very receptive. We had the very minor misfortune of loosing power while we were there but the host was very responsive and coordinated with us very quickly. The power came on a couple of hours later and we had flashlights with us so we were fine overall. The host checked in on us and made sure we were ok during the outage. We had snow our last day and the kids Really enjoyed the snow molding toys available at the cabin.

Thank you! I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay even with the inconvenience of a power outage. What we love about this cabin is that it feels remote but is tucked in a little community of Conservation Civilian Corp era cabins with friendly neighbors who look out for each other and central location to many activities and restaurants. Also, because we aren't isolated, First Energy/Penelec responds to the relatively rare neighborhood power outages like you experienced pretty quickly and has historically restored power to the cabin within a couple hours or less. We have only had 4 power outages in the 6 years we have owned this cabin and the one next door. We also provide emergency flashlights that are always charging as hallway nightlights especially for occasions like this. We simply ask guests to replace the flashlights when done using them. I'm so glad that your kids enjoyed the indoor treehouse, squealing with delight when they first saw it as you said in our VRBO messaging, and also thought of the power outage with positivity as an adventure! It helped that you called me right away so that I could call the neighbors, guests next door, and Penelec to figure out what was going on and keep in touch with you all until power was restored. Thanks for your patience, understanding and pioneer attitude! I am always happy to help, especially awesome guests like you! Please come again!!
This home was perfect for us 4 ladies. We all had our own sleeping space and enough room for all our stuff. Our one friend like the closeness of the park which she was able to walk to. This home was perfect for our annual hiking trip. Its also close to so much that we wanted to experience. i.e. Falling Water and Ligonier.

Thank you for choosing our mountain home for your annual gals hiking trip! I have slept in the queen bed in the indoor treehouse too, and it is comfy. The lower bunk bed is a bit small for adults, but the top bunk is easier for an adult to sleep in, so 4 adults can easily use the 3 queen beds and twin bunk to have their own sleeping areas if 2 adults don't mind climbing some ladder stairs either into the treehouse space or top bunk.
Fallingwater and Ligonier are definitely guest favorites and each a little less than a 30 minute drive away. Kooser State Park is walkable in under 30 minutes as long as you don't mind walking down 31 (which can be a busy road at times) for a little over a half mile. It is an easy walk, but not everyone likes walking there because the trucks and cars drive about 50 mph on the single lane each way road. But it is a quick (less than one minute) drive to get to the trails to walk around Kooser lake or into the woods and is quite beautiful. We often go to Kooser too, either walking or driving because it is so peaceful and easy to find meandering hiking or cross country skiing trails.
Thank you again for taking good care of our Mountain Grove retreat. Please come again!
Enjoyed our stay in PA with California friends. The cabin is great for cooking and enjoying a glass of wine with friends.

Thank you so much for choosing Mountain Grove, Amanda! So glad you and your family loved the super fun treehouse, and you enjoyed sharing it with your friends renting the cabin next door too! It is great to hang out together in the backyard next door at Blue Mountain Retreat (VRBO listing 3579454) with the hot tub, picnic area, and bonfire pit available to Mountain Grove only when friends and family rent both houses simultaneously. Please come again!
Our family loved staying in this house, it’s far enough out of town yet close enough to everything. My kids LOVED the indoor tree house and didn’t want to be anywhere else. The property owner was absolutely amazing, so attentive and helpful. She gave several different suggestions of things to do and see in the area.

Thank you, Kayla, for choosing our mountain home for your week long family vacation in the Laurel Highlands. The indoor treehouse is certainly a favorite for kids. It is unique and fun, but also practical because families can spread out a bit if the weather isn't cooperating or guests just need chill time after adventuring outdoors. I appreciate the compliment too! After many years in the service industry and teaching, I like to be proactive to make sure visitors know many choices nearby for a variety of food and attractions to fall in love with our region like I did so many years ago. I am always happy to help! Please come again!
This spacious, cute, and immaculate cabin is in a terrific location for skiing, other activities, and food. The cabin is stocked with all necessities and more. Our kids loved the loft. Highly recommend!!!!!

We stayed with our kids ages 5-10 and loved this cabin. Easy, quick drive to the ski resorts, had everything we needed and was super clean and well kept. If it's snowing when you arrive, you'll want 4WD to get up the hill to the cabin. Would stay again!

Thank you, Kate! Yes, when it snows, AWD or 4WD are essential for ease of access on our road and all the surrounding roads to any of the ski resorts. Glad you mention this because some people miss it in our listing. So delighted you enjoyed your stay! Please come again!
The host gave detailed information regarding the house and surrounding area. Everything listed was accurate and our stay was enjoyable. The location offered a short drive to everything we wanted to visit during our stay. I would recommend this property to anyone interested in visiting the area.

About the host
Hosted by Lisa Dietz
My husband and I love to rehab properties and keep a few gems to ourselves that we like to share with others. We love being close to hiking, biking, skiing, restaurants and that feeling like you are going back to a simpler time. Playing board games and hanging out with friends and family around a campfire make all of the hard work renovating houses worth it. Please come enjoy our home that we lovingly and creatively reinvented.
Why they chose this property
The Laurel Highlands has everything you need to enjoy the outdoors! Trails abound: hiking, biking, cross country and downhill skiing, and snowmobiling. The property is perfectly situated between all 3 resorts (Hidden Valley, Seven Springs, and Laurel Mountain) so that you can explore one every day or even two in one day! Dining close by includes options for every palate from a cash only mom and pop pizza shop to fine dining and everything in between. Just ask us about our favorite recommendations. We'd be happy to help you!
What makes this property unique
This rustic cabin sits next door to Blue Mountain Retreat that we renovated in 2020 during Covid. We knew this would be a perfect situation for multi family get togethers so each family could have a place to stay of their own but also interesting spaces to gather. We love the versatility and fun spaces we created.
In this cabin, we repurposed some hard to reach storage space in each bedroom, added support beams and a breezeway to connect them, and then redesigned the space into an indoor treehouse hang out gaming and sleepover area for kids. There are two gaming chairs, 4 bean bag chairs and a bean bag queen bed...all kid size (ages 5 - 12 ideal) and approved! Our son and his friends and cousins love it! We hope you do too! The front porch was repainted and is the perfect place to hang out and listen to the rain or eat at the picnic table. The bonfire pit doubles as a wood fired or charcoal grill since the top swivels (use oven mitts ~ metal conducting heat is real!) so that you can add wood or charcoal easily.
