Love the place.. very clean ..loved the neighbors.. got to catch up on well needed rest.. the neighbors on the right were wonderful than the owners came and they were also wonderful also
Serene stay, most peaceful waterfront property ever! Cabin is tiny but fine for two adults. This was very convenient for our weekend plans in Terryville (15 min) and Torrington (10 min). Unfortunately, there was some problem with the internet connection, so limited use. Host immediately addressed the situation.
The cabin was great! Exactly as described and pictured. The kitchen was well stocked with all the basic cooking instruments and utensils. We had a blast and would absolutely come back.
The cabin and property were in pristine condition and immaculately clean. The kitchen was thoughtfully stocked, linens and extra blankets/pillows were clean and plentiful, kayaks were in great shape and easy to navigate around the lovely and tranquil lake. Watching great blue heron take off from the shore and frogs croak away in pond, while sitting around the fire pit and barbecuing on the grill...we never wanted to leave! This cabin on Lake Harwinton is a hidden gem that delivers a full vacation experience with the convenience of being close to major CT cites and an hour from the Bridgeport ferry!
We had a great time as a family. It’s a great location, peaceful. It was a little difficult having dogs with the dogs next door and so close, but manageable as the neighbors are very nice. It’s unusual to not have windows that open, especially on the Sun porch, but the deck is gorgeous. We came ready to “camp” cooking over a fire and in the charcoal grill. We got exactly that with a great little kitchen to work out of, comfy bed, room for our kids to pick a spot on the floor with an air bed, and our 2 large dogs to curl up. The large mudroom/office proved both of those things during our stay. We all loved the opportunity to be secluded in a cabin and relax for a few days.
Lovely cozy cabin on Lake in a quiet neighborhood. Beautiful wood paneling and attention to detail. Perfect for intimate getaway but, can also accommodate a family. Well equipped kitchen. We love having all our meals in the all seasons porch and sitting by the lake reading our favorite book. We fish off the backyard dock and caught some sunfish and a nice bass. We had great communication with hosts and would love to come back next year.
A perfect compromise for a family where a tent may be a little too rough. All you could ask from the great outdoors. My daughter loved the camping beds, caught a fish off the dock. Was great to bring the dog along. Kayaks were great. Perfect location!
We loved it. It's a real wood cabin - you don't see many of those in Connecticut, so this was pretty novel for us. It's got all the modern amenities though - internet, TV, etc. Clean and great for a small family. We had 2 adults and 2 kids. Nice bed for adults, kids had the air mattress in the living room and they loved "camping". We would stay again.
I was a little worried coming into the trip after seeing the previous review the day before check-in. But this was a great cabin and a great stay. it is small, but it's well done and makes a great cabin for a couple's trip. The lake and yard are fantastic, and my wife and I really enjoyed doing an evening kayak paddle around the lake together in the boats. Kitchen was small but nice. Bedroom was comfy (it did have curtains on all bedroom windows), and the living room was nice for relaxing and watching TV. Overall 10 out of 10. We would definitely stay again!

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Upon arrival we thought the location and scenery were quite nice. Once inside, the cottage was superficially clean, but the kitchen stove burners had a lot of burnt on food. There is an odor from the bathroom, which we assumed was the septic tank.It was very hot, 90 degrees with very high humidity. All the windows were painted shut, without any screens. The inside air was very stuffy and very hot due to not being able to get any outside, cooler, night air. The small air conditioner did not cool the bedroom, and brought in the septic smell. Although the bed was comfortable, it was hot sleeping.Outside all the chairs had a lot of bird poop which we had to clean, and the kayaks were muddy and filled with water. While walking our dog we saw a notice informing everone that the bacteria in the lake was high ,so to be sure to shower if you decided to swim. Needless to say we did not.We understand that this was on the cheaper side and dogs were allowed. We feel that the owners do the bare minimum to maintain this property. If more attention was given this could be a nice getaway.

For future guests - we don't think this is a fair review, and certainly not reasonable for 2 stars. These guests came in the middle of a heat wave.. The air conditioner is a large unit and generally works fine - this was the exception not the norm. The lake also had a temporary issue, while the HOA was rebalancing the PH in it I'm told. There is no on-going issue there. Finally, I'm not sure what the bathroom issue the guests smelled was (maybe one person in the group wanted to blame us to avoid embarrassment?), but we were unable to recreate it and it smells fine when checked afterwards by the cleaners.
The house overall was nice. However it said there was a spa on the property which is the #1 reason why we booked this property. There was not a spa. Also said there was a 2 person kayak and a single. There was only 2 singles which was OK. The neighbor let us use his. This property had no curtains, which allowed the neighbors to look right inside. Could also benifit to have a gate on the porch and a fence between properties, as it's a dog friendly property, as is the neighbors home. No grilling tools for the charcoal grill. The bathroom had a little smell. But according to the neighbor, it had septic problems that are supposed to be fixed this year by the HOA. The bed is extremely uncomfortable. The lake is beautiful, the people are really friendly. I'd go back again if these things I've listed were taken care of.

We vehmently disagree with this review. There is no hot tub at the house, and there never has been. The guest is simply mistaken about us saying there was. We also never said there was a two person kayak and a single - we said there are two one-person kayaks. The house has shades in the bedroom windows. The house is dog friendly, but yes you will need to control your dogs. We are not adding a fence or a gate. There are grill tools there. And the septic issue has already been resolved. Overall, we would not rent to these guests again. Their dogs did damage to the house and they were difficult to deal with overall.
