Riverfront direct access to trout river with tranquil views
Home away from Home on the South Toe River! Everything you need to enjoy the view and relax. Our home is accessible no matter what the weather. County maintained asphalt roads all the way to the driveway. This home has 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths on the main level and a bedroom and a full bath in the finished basement. In the basement there is a game table and many games in the closet. The Custom Bar and game table are all done in tasteful log cabin decor. Sorry.. the bar is not stocked. BYOB The comfy sectional couch is a great place to hang out with a 50" smart tv. A walk out porch is the perfect place to swing and enjoy the view. Upstairs enjoy the gas fireplace and watch your favorite TV show on the 50" smart tv. Read a book on the upper deck at the table under the umbrella as the birds eat at the feeders down below. Hummingbirds abound in the spring and you can see the trout swimming in the shallow waters in the South Toe River. In the summer, you can rent tubes and drop the kids off upstream for them to get out right at your back yard. Trout fishermen are a common sight as well as other families floating downstream. If the water is high enough, you will see a few kayaks floating down river. Sleep at night with your windows open and let the sounds of the river lull you off to sleep! Wake up refreshed with a great cup of tea or coffee at the kitchen table which looks right out at the South Toe River. No Matter what time of the year it is, the view is astoundingly peaceful! The main level has 2 steps to get in and there is a set of stairs inside to get down to the basement where the game table and bar and sectional with tv are located. Wonderful place to stay!! Pictures don't do it justice! Definitely will be back! Love the river behind the place, the best thing about the place. Very clean and has pretty much everything you need except food and clothes. Thank you for letting us stay in your place!
Great house on the river! The house was well stocked with cooking and serving essentials. There were plenty of linens. It was xhilly one day and we turned on rhe fireplace and had blankets to keep cozy. Comfortable beds, plenty of room foe everyone. Already booked again for next year. Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful home!
We had a wonderful time. As soon as we arrived the kids ran down to the water and started fishing. The kitchen was clean and well stocked, the bedrooms were all separate and the tv areas were comfortable and clean. We took advantage of the game closet and went tubing on the Toe River. Saturday we went to the farmers market and walked around the cute shops downtown. All in all a relaxing and fun stay. We would definitely recommend and return again.
We’ve stayed here several times and will definitely be back. Beautiful location on the river. Very comfortable and nicely decorated house. Great kitchen with everything you need. Very responsive hosts. And the hot tub is a really nice extra. Perfect getaway.
We were in town for race weekend and this was perfectly located for our needs. This is such a peacefull place to spend time at. We will definitely book again!
This rental was as cozy as visiting family. Every amenity was available, and the whole home was clean and comfortable. The river was excellent for tubing, dogs, and trout fishing. We had a lovely time!
The property was absolutely gorgeous! The house had everything we needed and plenty of room for 6 girlfriends to escape for a little R&R. We enjoyed the little town of Burnsville!
My family and friends come up here every year to trout fish in the spring, this has been the house we have come to for the past few years. Very comfortable and welcoming place to stay, everything you need is ready to use. Always clean , very comfy beds as well. Plan to continue coming back in the years to come!
We had a wonderful visit to this clean, cozy home beside a beautiful river! We especially enjoyed skipping rocks in the river, hiking at Mt. Mitchell, and watching the chipmunks and hummingbirds at the backyard feeders. I definitely recommend that other guests fill the feeders when they stay as well!
Thank you for everything!
Great location right on the river. Kids loved fishing and exploring the river. A bit of a winding drive to get there, which becomes part of the adventure!
House was cute and comfortable and well stocked. We fit our family of 6 comfortably and had great hiking excursions during the day, and campfires at night.
Great place to get away and spend time in nature in the mountains.
We found the home to be rustic and charming with a definite fish camp flare. Whether sitting in the comfortable furniture, or relaxing on the deck by the fire overlooking the river relaxation was inevitable. A real delight!! We would definitely do it again!! PS great hot tub and good fishing!!!
What an amazing cozy home! We loved the upstairs/downstairs as it allowed us to all have space! The back deck was so tranquil with the creek flowing. Fire pit and hot tub a plus!!! The trout farm was very close and we enjoyed our visit there too! Very nice host/owner, communication was very quick!! 5 STARS!!! A+ REVIEW!!!!

Quiet home on the river
This property is well kept and well run. It is right on the South Toe River with a view of only the river and surrounding woods. The road on the other side of the river is barely visible and very lightly used. There is plenty of room and the best sound system I’ve ever seen in a vacation rental. Fishing was good, even though we were well past stocking season.
My family and I had a wonderful vacation at the “Unwind” cabin. The cabin was clean and well maintained and we had everything we needed for our weeklong stay. Also they have a beautiful collection of knickknacks and mountain “stuff” throughout the house. Although the central air unit was broken, the temporary window units kept up really well. I have no complaints at all. We even had to turn them down a bit at times. The backyard creek was far beyond our expectations. It is beautiful, the perfect depth to play in for the kids (and the parents !), and full of beautiful shiny mica-crusted rocks. There were also good quality tubes in the garage among other things. We were in the creek every day. The yard has a small flower garden with red and orange lilies. Also plenty of rhododendrons and beautiful Queen Anne’s Lace flowers in the area. The downstairs closet was packed with games to play on their gorgeous card table. There are plenty of fun things to do here! The hosts were exceptional communicators. They were friendly and quick at answering any questions we had. Don’t hesitate to book this cabin. It is one of the nicest places to stay in Appalachia and has been one of our most enjoyable vacations.Thank you, Robin!
Large, beautiful, & peaceful home. Decorations fit the region with many whimsical items to see & enjoy. The house is well appointed with many family & couple activities. The river was low for the season but that did not stop our grandsons from running up & down with great joy & curiosity. There are many necessary stores nearby yet far enough to keep the traffic & noise levels to a near zero level. The weather allowed us to open the windows feel/smell the fall breeze, sit on the two porches/decks, & take pleasure in the fire pit for smores every night. The hot tub is comfortable & convenient - love the indoor placement. The design of this property would allow 2 families to have their own floor with only sharing the kitchen & hot tub. The games & game table were used daily as we played with our grandsons. The host(s) are exceptional - they have thought of everything. We have already recommended this location to friends and family - this is a top quality property with exceptional amenities, an amazing location, and great hosts! We will return!!!!!
We stayed at "the house on the river" as our family dubbed it - for three weeks in August. It was one of the most memorable trips for our family. The house is perfect, clean, has everything you need for cooking, bathing, games, etc. We loved the view off the deck and twice we watched a hawk dive for its dinner.
We daily fished off the mini-beach. Our son, 12 years old, spent HOURS everyday in the river. He built dams, explored, swam and just had a wonderful time. Our two dogs, one a goldendoodle, and her first time in the water, absolutely loved the river. Even our little dog got in on the action.
The town of Burnsville was about 20 minutes away and so stinking cute! The Country General Store had the most amazing sandwiches. We went in a couple times a week to have ice cream, eat at the coffee shop, listen to the bands at one of the local restaurants (the beer place was great with their outdoor area).
We also went to Ashville, drove two hours to do a train tour, went twice to the rock mining location, hiked, and had the most wonderful time. We're already planning on coming back.
Robin was amazing. So helpful and responsive. If you're looking for a great place to unwind, unplug and relax, look no further!
My husband and I stayed to attend a wedding. The home was beautiful, spacious and we loved being able to walk down to the water. Would definitely want to stay there again.
Nice riverside cabin!!! Communication was excellent and property was clean and relaxing. Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends and family!!!
Very nice house with a deck overlooking the S. Toe River and steps leading down to the river. The kitchen was well-equipped with everything needed (and this applies to the rest of the house as well.) Everything was perfectly clean and organized. Tucked away on a less traveled road so it was quiet and peaceful. We filled up the hummingbird feeder and got some visitors to join us on the deck! Highly recommended.

About the host
Hosted by Robin and Mike Fowler (mostly Robin 😊)
Mike and Robin are empty nesters with two grown sons; Mike is retired from the US Army and Robin owns her own business. Oldest son is in the Army following in Dad's footsteps and youngest son is working with youth at the church he grew up in.
Why they chose this property
Mike went to college at Western Carolina University and his parents bought a home in the general area many years ago. We spent many years looking for just the right home and it HAD to be on the river. Mike really enjoys fly fishing and Robin just likes the serenity of being close to the water. Both of us actually grew up in South Florida so having a home in the mountains has always been a dream for us.
What makes this property unique
When we get there it isn't unusual for Robin to just settle in, read books and relax. We enjoy going to the square to eat and visit our favorite clothing and gift shops. For lunch, there is the Garden Deli where you can eat inside or out and it's right on the square. There is a new Brewery off the square HomePlace which has pretty good food. In the spring, summer and fall, there is a craft fair featuring all kinds of local ware right on the square. There is a quaint little ONE SCREEN old-time theater that we are hoping gets refurbished and there is even live theater at Parkway Playhouse. You can check for events on Yancey County Chamber of Commerce website. Mt Mitchell Golf Course is 10 minutes up the road and Carolina Hemlocks is a state park/camp site where you can rent tubes and play in the river. Grandfather Mountain is about 45 minutes away and has great view and places to picnic. Crabtree Falls is a campground/state park that allows you to follow the trail down to view a very cool 60 ft waterfall, just remember you have to hike back up. Be sure and take the walking sticks provided at the house! This is a challenging hike. You can do a lot or nothing at all and still have a wonderful time.
