The views were gorgeous, house was clean, good seating arrangement and nice couch with recliners for TV watching, large smart TV, loved the woodburning fireplace, great location to Bar Harbor and Acadia NP. Owner was very responsive. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
Very quiet location right on the sound with beautiful views. Cottage was well stocked with cookware / appliances. Lots of little touches to help guests explore the island. Loved hearing and seeing the loons and the daily deer visits. Would not hesitate to book again!
We really enjoyed the quiet beauty of Rockpoint cottage. The well equipped kitchen was great too. And maybe best of all were the ocean fresh lobsters we got from Paul! A true feast!
This was our second year! Peaceful and relaxing with beautiful views. Everything we needed for a comfortable week long stay was there. The cottage was cozy and our two children loved having the loft to themselves. Thanks for another memorable family vacation!
We had a great time staying at Rockpoint. The cottage was exactly as described in the listing and really had everything our family needed. The host Paul was really responsive and even offered fresh caught lobster for sale which was an added perk. Location was great with easy access to many trails and just a short 15 minute drive to Bar Harbor. I would recommend this location to others.
Rental was very clean, well appointed, quiet and Paul was incredibly nice. The pride and efforts the family puts forth are very evident. Paul also provides the freshest lobster at a steal. Highly recommend!
We loved our visit to Rock Point. It was well equipped with everything we could’ve needed for our stay. The kitchen & decor were amazing and having a good internet connection (and pretty much all the cable channels you’d want) made the evenings almost like being at home. Definitely the most comfortable beds & living room seating that we’ve ever had in a rental. It’s very quiet & secluded (we had a deer and a porcupine walk by the deck lol) but a still only a short drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The picture window gave us a great view of the sunrise and The owner did a great job communicating as well. Basically, it was everything we were looking for and it delivered! We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone heading to the area.
We loved our stay at Rock point cottage! We were so lucky to find Rock Point Cottage while searching for our Acadia adventure. Our family of 5 was extremely comfortable in Paul’s 3 bedroom cottage on Somes Sound. We were easily able to explore MDI and Acadia while having a base camp within 20-minutes of most of our destinations. The cottage had everything we needed for cooking meals and sleeping soundly while planning all of our excursions. The bathroom on the second floor was an added bonus for my young girls staying upstairs. Paul was beyond accommodating offering assistance recommendations if needed throughout the stay. We look forward to returning in warmer months to take advantage of the outdoor fireplace and dock, Rockpoint is truly a hidden gem.
My sisters and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rock Point cabin overlooking Somes Sound. The view from the deck was amazing and the weather was so nice that we spent hours every day enjoying scenery and wildlife while we played cards and other games on the table out there. We had fun getting the lobsters from Paul at the dock and they were delicious. The kitchen was very well stocked, the beds were comfortable and the living room furniture was also very comfortable. We only watched the television a few times but the instructions were very easy to follow. I have stayed at many VRBO houses that have three or more remotes and no information on how to use them, so it was nice having clear and easy instructions. We loved hiking in Acadia every day and enjoyed coming back to the quiet of the cabin. Thank you Paul for being a wonderful host.
We stayed at Rockpoint for a week in June, 2024, and fell in love with this cute as can be cottage! The classic paintings, built-in bookshelves, and chenille bedspreads provided a classic Maine cabin vibe, while the newly updated bathroom, couch and recliners, and smart TV provided a clean, modern feel. The best of both worlds!
The star of the show, however, is Rockpoint’s location on Somes Sound, and the deck and dock to enjoy it from. We saw a bald eagle (check the top of the dead tree!) osprey, loons, and porpoises. Lobster boats worked their traps right in front of our dock, what a great sound and ambiance. And the view across to the mountains was glorious … sunrise, sunset, and rain storm! We had coffee on the deck every morning and cocktails every evening and never tired of the beautiful, peaceful view.
Rockpoint was a great base for exploring the many harbors around MDI, the Loop in ANP, and trips to the Schoodic Peninsula (Schoodic Point is awesome!) Blue Hill Peninsula and Penobscot Bridge Observatory (another winner!) We stocked up on groceries at Hannaford, and were out exploring all day every day and home for dinner every night. Wonderful!
Thanks to owner/manager Paul Grindle for his friendly and timely communications. We enjoyed meeting you and hope to return! We highly recommend Rockpoint for its cozy cottage feel, private yet convenient location, and gorgeous views. Do it! You’ll be happy you did.
The property was in a perfect location to get to the park and Bar Harbour. However, some of the prettiest views were right out the back door. Facing Somes Sound we caught a beautiful sunrise ( Cadillac Mt. sunrise was a bust due to rain). One evening to stars were so crisp and clear you could identify the Milky Way. IWe really feel lucky to have fun this place!
My fiance and I stayed at the Rock Point cottage this month and had an incredible time relaxing on the property and exploring Mt. Desert island. The cottage is centrally located to anything you want to get to on the island (Bar Harbor only 15 minutes away) but the location itself was the best part of the trip. Having access to a shared doc right at the edge of the property was a wonderful bonus. We sat on the floating doc everymorning where you can see the entire sound around you. It's very quiet and teeming with wildlife - the absolute perfect tranquil getaway! Paul and Ashley made the check-in and out process extremely easy and were in constant communication if we needed anything. The cottage was super clean and also bug/weather proof with screens in great condition. I would absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat!
Outstanding base camp to explore Desert Island & Acadia
Perfect relaxing spot to return to after you hike, explore, and visit all the harbours of Desert Island. Kitchen full of all you need to cook all meals, place was spotless, owner Paul was very responsive, and the location is ideal to visit Acadia, Bar Harbour, Southwest and Northeast Harbours. The availablility of the internet is spotty on rainy days. Not a big deal if you are on vacation, but it was a challange for my son in grad school who arranged 3 on line classes during the week. Would I recommend? Would I go back? Absolutely, yes and yes!!!
I can't say enough good things about this property and the owners. It is simply a beautiful location and great cottage! It is close to everything, yet isolated enough to provide a very relaxing experience! Our hosts could not have been any nicer! We will definitely stay here again in the future!
There’s nothing like falling asleep to the sound of waves right outside your door! Paul’s place was immaculately clean, provided more than basic amenities, and the most gorgeous view!
We were there for our 30th Anniversary. The location was awesome. We did alot of hiking and it was great to be able to come back to our place and get fresh lobsters from Paul (owner) at the private dock . We were right on the water with great views. The cabin was great and the place was very clean and owners responded quickly to our needs( lock our keys in the house he was there in 10min) Have nothing but a positive experience and will definitely be back!!!
One more change:
Rock House is a dream come true. If you get the chance, book it! All of their properties are fantastic at Chambers, and the hosts Paul and Ashlee are extremely helpful. Just an outstanding location, super clean, and well appointed. Also straight from the Sound, lobster at the dock is outstanding! We can’t wait to return. Thanks Paul and Ashlee!
My husband and I really enjoyed waking up to a beautiful sunrise over the lake each morning, and having our coffee down on the dock before heading out to hike Acadia all day. Great sunsets and peaceful tranquility awaited us upon our return. We enjoyed being on the water in this clean and charming cottage filled with everything you would need, and also loved being close to Bar Harbor for dining and shopping. It was the best of both worlds!

Great Cottage - wonderful vacation!!!
I would highly recommend staying at the Crows Nest Cottage on Somes Sound - it is keep super clean and fully stocked with everything you would need for a weeks stay. This includes sheets, towels, washer, dryer and a large pot for cooking your lobsters. On Monday - Wednesday & Friday as long as Paul (the owner of the cottage) has a good catch you can go down to the dock and purchase lobster right from him.
The view of Somes Sound from the outside deck and livingroom is so peaceful - it's a great place to have your morning coffee. We even had a deer visit daily and one day she came with her baby.
Paul and Ashlee live up the road and are close by "if" you should need anything. There is internet access too. Friewood is available for the cool nights if you want to light a fire.
Bar Harbor is a short drive and there are a lot of cute shops and restuarants. For groceries I would recommend going into Bar Harbor and going to Hanaford's as it is cheaper than the IGA store that is in Mt. Desert. On the nights you can't get lobsters from Paul - Beal's has a large select of lobster, mussels and clams.

Superb view, spotless accomodation, lobster pound at the dock.
This is our third vacation at sounderosa. The cottage is quaint, spotless and large. The huge deck overlooks Somes sound. You can buy lobster right at the dock. A great location for kayaking and short drive to biking and hiking trails. 5 stars!

Crows Nest at Chambers Oceanfront
We love this place!
Such a beautiful space.
So peaceful and serene.
Into nature's ear
We whispered our cheer
The house is beautiful and clean.
Paul and Ashlee were helpful, kind hosts
with tips on where to go.
We will likely return
While away we will yearn
Until then, try to keep it slow

Topside at Chambers Ocean Front Cottages - a great place to stay
My family and I absolutely enjoyed our stay at the "Topside" cottage at Chambers Ocean Front Cottages earlier this month (June of 2016). The Grindles are wonderful hosts and obviously put a lot of care into their properties. It is probably easiest to summarize our stay as a collection of points:
- the cottage was spacious and had more than enough room for our family of five to stay and not trip over each other
- the kitchen was well-furnished; we did not need any extra dishes or cooking implements
- the washer and drier worked great and with three kids, we gave them a workout
- the property is very quiet and private
- the views of the Sound and Sargent Mountain are breathtaking
- the cottage was very clean
- there is an IGA grocery down the road in Southwest Harbor, maybe five miles away (maybe closer)
- there are hiking trails just minutes of a drive away (I wouldn't mind walking, but some people might)
To summarize, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and are hoping to return again in subsequent summers.
