An amazing experience!
We do a lot of travel and wanted something a little more laid back and off away from the crazy tourist, city spaces. We found an oasis on a winning farm fir thoroughbreds. The Breeding Barn is quaint and all two people need. A great kitchen, amazing sitting area, and the mother of all showers. Electronics were skittish and wifi never worked for us, but we didn't care and were thankful for the disconnect and chance to just see the mares and their babies, winning race horses, and the kind folks who take care if them every day with a great attitude and spirit. My wife shared dozens of carrots and peppermints and laughed and giggled at these beautiful “horsies” (as i called them after a few hours there). Walking around the stables, the pastures, and this beautiful farm we found ourselves very disappointed to have to leave. An amazing find!

Beautiful property with Horses and super convenient to KHP
The property was absolutely charming. The house was quaint and works for a couple with one child as there is an open floor layout. The property was the selling point for us. To be with the horses and take walks on the farm was so peaceful and filled our hearts. There wasn’t any WiFi so we couldn’t watch a movie on the TV. I messaged the host but the WiFi didn’t show up as an option. Not a big deal but would have been nice to have.

Beautiful farm, charming house!
This is our second time staying at this property, and I hope it won’t be our last! We love everything about this horse farm - the charming house, peaceful surroundings, slow mornings, wandering the stables, feeding the beautiful horses, the convenient location. We brought bikes this time so the kids could easily explore the farm. The staff is so friendly and helpful. We even got to meet Robby Albarado which was such a cool experience for all of us - especially my horse loving son. If you’re ever in Lexington, I cannot recommend this property enough!

Such a special place
I cannot say enough good about this property! It’s beautiful inside and out. Staff on the property is fantastic! I took my mom who’s a huge horse lover, she started and ended every day at the stables. The staff talked with her and answered questions and were wonderful! I cannot recommend the property enough- worth every penny!

Amazing, One of a Kind!
We are from Cleveland, Ohio, in town for our first Kentucky Derby. This property was conveniently located, and a magical place! The accommodations were perfect and the amenities were incredible. During our stay we got the pleasure of interacting with the horses living there, and even got to see a newborn foal born during our stay! Thank you McPeek family for a once in a lifetime experience!

One of the best experiences ever! The farm, staff and home were amazing. We expected keenland would be the highlight of our trip instead it was the stay at the horse farm. When we come back we will definitely try to stay here again.

There are no words to describe how wonderful this property is. From the staff we met to the animals, you can tell when everyone is well treated and thus treats everyone else the same. Best trip to Lexington, and we've been coming for over 33 years!

Overnight in Lexington
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. It was spacious and clean. And the property was beautiful. Sheri was very responsive prior to and during our stay. And most of all the horses were amazing. We traveled with our two children who adored the foals. Being able to feed the horses peppermints and carrots and pet all of the beautiful horses was such fun for them (and us). Lexington is a beautiful place to visit and this is a great home base to stay while exploring the area!

What a gem!
This property was a REAL treat! The setting is beautiful!!! Everything you need is on site. Very clean, bed super comfortable, and plenty of amenities. The shower is to die for, with multiple jets, a steam, and plenty of hot water. The real treat was the 3 babies foaled during our visit. Thank you McPeaks for a great stay.

We loved everything about our stay on the farm. It started off with great communication and instructions from owner. We loved walking around the farm and interacting with the horses. The “Breeding Shed” was perfect for our stay and was very clean. The workers on the farm were very friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely return.

What An Experience
Wow! What an incredible experience! You are staying in a beautifully remodeled breeding shed right in the middle of a working throughbred farm! Sheri, the owner, was so welcoming and accommodating. We did not feel like strangers, more like family. The farm is bustling with excitement, numerous opportunities to ask the staff questions and have photo ops with champion horses! Simply incredible! We will be back soon!

Outstanding
Property was excellent! Great experience to be at a Kentucky horse farm. Hosts were great in their communication and the property was very neat and clean. Having an opportunity to walk the grounds and feed the horses carrots was an opportunity to not pass up. The horses were friendly and loved carrots and peppermints. Add to the experience to see Sonny the yellow Labrador Retriever wander the grounds and approach you for attention if you called him. That made my wife's trip away from our Labrador more tolerable. The place was comfortable and decorated nicely. As others have mentioned the steam shower and jetted tub were what was needed after a long day on the bourbon trail.

Amazing Stay!
This is an experience you shouldn't pass up if you're in Lexington! The 'Breeder Shed' is one single room, but it doesn't feel that way at all! They've managed a king bed, an L shaped couch, pull kitchen and bath, and even a loft area for extra 'small' guests. We had free reign of the entire farm and they even allowed us to take a cart and explore. We found the full sized race track and watched one of the workers take an owner's horse out for a run. Gorgeous place, nice staff and great restaurants in town. Note: There are two single steps down--one to the kitchen and one to the bathroom. Carpet ends and hardwood begins before the step down, which allows you to get your muscle-memory flexed so you don't take a tumble. Otherwise the place has everything you need. Shower is tricky but it rocks. We will DEFINATELY be back.

Only place to stay in Lexington!
We traveled to Kentucky for my daughter’s horse show and wanted a nice place to come home to after the long show day. This was perfect!! Bed was comfy, shower was awesome and the farm is so quiet and relaxing. My kids enjoyed visiting the horses each evening and spent down time on the tree swing. We will be back!

We are a working Thoroughbred race horse training center. We love sharing our passion for horses, the relaxing atmosphere of the farm, and the rich racing history of this land. In 2006, Champion Trainer Kenny McPeek acquired and refurbished the land naming it Magdalena Farm after the farm's longest reining matriarch during the 1800s. It is now a Grade 1 Stakes training facility. McPeek has developed from this location winners of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont and many other graded stakes winners. Notice the Brass Plates in the Office representing our stakes winners. 2024 Kentucky Derby Winner Mystik Dan was born on the farm and continues to call Magdalena home. Champion fillies Swiss Skydiver and Thorpedo Anna both have spent time at Magdalena Farm.

Magdalena is also home to the business operations of Horses Now, a free horse racing app downloaded nearly one million times in 217 countries.

We hope you'll stay with us at Magdalena Farm!

What makes this property unique

Step onto land that boasts as much historical relevance in the development of the Thoroughbred industry as any other. Even more historically relevant is that its founder, David Shely, had the vision to improve the performance, lineage, and pedigree of Kentucky mares by importing English bred and raced stallions for the purpose of offering them to the public for mating. Shely’s first import, Crawler, was the first publicly advertised stallion “for season”. Crawler stood stud on this property in the spring of 1810 with documentation in the March 13, 1810 “Kentucky Gazette” newspaper.
