5 houses up from ocean- walk to beach every night and day....Walking distance to the Ocracoke Island Ferry.

House is located on a dead end street with very little traffic. Very peaceful location with lots of distance between neighbors.

Constructed and Owned by Family of a local fisherman who was a legacy on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Plenty of relaxing time awaits you at this peaceful abode. Great for Families and Fishermen.

Great family home

We very enjoyed our stay. The location was absolutely amazing. The views were beautiful and the house was comfortable. Property manager got back to us quickly with the minor issues that we had also gave me plenty of tips. I’m making her stay even better. Totally look forward to coming back and staying again.

Family Get Away

The host was wonderful in providing us with information to help not only entertain our children, but the best places to eat. The house was a stones throw away from the beach and the marina, which our children loved. Nights looking out at the ocean and the stars were wonderful.

Surf trip

We had a great time! I Loved that my son could surf at the end of the street and my other son loved skateboarding on the dead end street. The House was perfect! Great location; walking distance to restaurants and ferry. Thank you for having us!

Nice location

The house was nice, enjoyed the stay. Minor things could use some attention but nothing that ruined the visit. We didn’t stay around the house a ton anyway! The house did have everything we needed, had a full house and everyone had room. Thanks for a great vacation!

This is our second time staying at Ricki’s home. We loved being here for two weeks. The house is on a quiet street. Access to the beach is nice and easy with a nice boarded up walkway to the dune and then sand down to the beach. The new deck and railings and the newer couch were a nice addition. The AC is great. Also, the bedding in the house is three queens and three twins, just for future reference! We love this area of Hatteras where the beach is less crowded. Close to the sound to catch the sunset. You can see it from the deck also! We love riding bikes and using our golf cart to ride around the village. The best way to see things!Make sure to check out Bingo in Buxton, it’s every other Wednesday night. It’s a nice thing to do with the family, since there’s no age limit!We can’t wait to come back again in the future!! Thank you again!!

Nice place for a quiet vacation

Very comfy home in a great location! Just a few minutes to the beach. Nice and quiet and without the busyness of Kitty Hawk. We loved it! Some beach equipment was provided but don't rely on it, some was damaged. Very well equipped kitchen, appliances a little outdated but everything worked just fine. Communication was good and helpful, great tips for things to do and eat out. Highly recommend!

Excellent Location

Excellent location. The cleaning crew had done a very good job. Very clean and ample kitchen and bedding supplies. Had no issues with any amenities during the stay. Very close to the beach and sometimes felt like we had a private beach. Will definitely stay here in the future. There is one plank on the deck that is rotten and needs replacement. Other than that, very nice home away from home.

Convenience at our fingertips.

We took our family of 8 (2 adults and 6 kids) to the beach for spring break. The kitchen is well stocked with amenities, the beach was a couple minute walk down the road. We brought a lot with us but the house provided things we didn’t know we would need for the beach. The neighborhood is quiet most of the time, the regular neighbors are friendly and helpful. Having a washer and dryer there was extremely helpful with 6 kids.

Poorly maintained property

The location was fine but the house was dirty and poorly maintained. Probably half the inside and outside lights didn’t burn. There were no towels on arrival so I called the property manager and was told that towels aren’t provided! Since the description of the property didn’t say this it created a real problem. I would not stay there again

I had decided not to review the property, but VRBO kept asking, so here goes... After reviewing previous reviews I found some of my concerns back in 2021 and 2023, not a good sign. The info in the book we found said don't crank the AC down or it will stop working. I "cranked it down" to 72 and went to bed, and we woke up sweating, 80 degrees at 2am. The AC filter was clean but the grille and vents were a mess. The Mbath light fixture had 1 of 4 bulbs working. LR table lamp was out. No lighting over DR table, just LR track light. We appreciated the new deck, but the old stairs should have been replaced. The abundant pots & pans had to be scrubbed prior to use. The kitchen faucet needs to be secured to the sink. New washer/dryer worked once we cleaned the dryer vent. It didn't rain so unsure how recent all the water stains on the walls are.The walk to the beach was great, as were the friendly permanent residents on the block.General cleanliness was not up to our standards, but we could live with it for the price paid.

Nice quiet beach

We rented the property for two weeks and it was great! We love being in Hatteras and this area is in a nice, quiet and laid back place. It’s is a short walk down to a gently sloping mostly boarded walkway. At this point there isn’t a huge set of stairs over the dune which is a great relief. There aren’t a lot of of houses on this street so that keeps the beach to just the few families staying on the street. Plenty of room to spread out! Almost every night we took our golf cart over to the marina and could watch the sunset it was a great view! The house itself was great. Plenty of space for our family of four. In saying that just be prepared for stairs. Basically any house in Hatteras is a lot of stairs! The good thing you get to see the ocean and the sound from the decks. The under house parking was nice plenty of space for our gear and our vehicles, bikes and golf cart. Thanks so much for Ricki who is so responsive to any and all questions that you may have. Thanks so much for allowing us to share your home! We hope to come back in the future!

Great time! Here are the honest pros and cons

I would highly recommend you give this place a try. I would honestly go back. The below is the truth. Pros: Pics don't do justice for place because it is larger than it appears, extremely kind and accomodating owner, EXCELLENT location near Ocracoke ferry and short walk to beach with quiet neighbors, good fishing and bait stores nearby, board games in house, good running A/C system, affordable place, seemingly safe area, located nearly across from an excellent restaurant called Hatteras Sol where we also watched beautiful sunsets off a dock. Cons: Had to reset router for WIFI twice in 5 days but not terribly inconvenient, intermittent washer but worked eventually, running toilet upstairs so I lost sleep at first and had to turn off the toilet water at night to sleep (but all was well after and owner is fixing, so you should be fine), house strangely shook in areas slightly with major wind blows or storm, deck slightly unsafe...only my opinion...due to shaking when coming from top level downward and grabbing handle, the eyes on stove aren't large enough to cook with the certain larger pans underneath sink to accomodate certain meals for a larger group, didn't get to personally meet the nice owner...if you consider that a con ;) Be encouraged about this place. We had a great time!

Drew: Thanks for the review. We just installed a new glass top stove and repaired the leaky toilet. The deck was recently reinforced when new siding was added to the house so I can assure you or anyone else they are safe. You are welcome to come again anytime.

Would not stay here again - Have never written a negative review before...

Great location, however, we arrived and the house was very dirty. Sand on floors. Sand and finger prints on coffee table. Sticky and sandy kitchen floors. Crumbs on my nieces bed. Everything dusty. Blinds extremely dirty. Dirty unvacuumed carpet. Did not realize how dirty until later in the evening because we rushed out to get groceries and pick up a takeout dinner. Had to leave my wife in the grocery line, my daughter called and said there were strangers in the house (4 children in the home). Cleaning lady let themselves into the home at 5pm without permission. Owner told them that we would not be there until Sunday despite the check in date being Saturday at 3:30pm per verified email. They should not have entered the home without permission because it was obvious that someone was there. I had to ask them to leave - personal items in home, children in home, had to drive back to get my wife and melting groceries. This delay ruined our evening. Owner did not reply to requests for cleaning fee and first nights rent refund (why not try to make it right?)! Other notable issues - AC broke, ants in kitchen, washer/dryer broke (AC, ants, washer/dryer addressed by owner), burned out light bulbs, broken screens/windows, leaking from windows and running down walls during storms, window frames water stained and appear moldy, master bed headboard broken, refrigerator in bad shape, missing set of keys owner asked me to copy at hardware! - Too many to list

Talk about a Nightmare renter from the very start. This man went into the house on 4th of July weekend 3.5 hours early without confirmation from anyone to do so. Texted a complaint about an extra key. Demanded via text we call him “ASAP” because of an “emergency situation.” We left a family funeral in another state & his emergency was he cussed out the cleaning lady & kicked her out for coming in to clean when he went into the home early to begin with & left his children there alone (who by the way told the cleaning person to come in- no worries). He demanded a refund for the cleaning and “two nights but at least the first nights rent”… The cleaning company explained how much of a horror he was to their person who went in to sanitize. The maintenance person indicated he was worried about the mans family because of how controlling he was. I was as well since his tone completely changed when I explained it was a man who would have to make the decision on a refund for him. He texted myself and the woman who helps manage the property over 200 times. He was harassing all week long in these texts. Too many texts to keep up. Every single issue he had was addressed immediately. He said the AC kept breaking on the top floor. As soon as maintenance got there- it was fine. Twice. But the issues were endless and perpetual from the very beginning unless he received a refund. I want to add that he somehow was able to book the home for $840 less than the average week to begin with…. His last text was at 7:17am this morning and read: “I will be leaving my review of the property tomorrow. Is anyone going to get back to me about the cleaning fee refund and first night rent refund for the hassle and interruptions?” That was text number 202. I already contacted VRBO earlier because of his constant harassing calls & texts & as a real concern for myself (& his family). We hope this renter can find a different home to book in the future (good luck to any owner who rents to him) as we are putting up a healthy boundary that he is not welcome back to ours.

two things that I seen need to be done outdoor lighting need to be fixed underneath the house and the outdoor shower needs to be redone we replaced the shower head downstairs so we can use it but it's pretty Rusty and just needs to be replaced it can't cost that much to do that. But otherwise happy with the house and our stay.

Great OBX get away.

Owner was responsive to questions and assistance with minor things, checking on us afterwards to make sure we were happy. House is older, but charming in it's own cozy way. Kitchen was well stocked if you like to cook. The son in law loved that there was a fishing cart provided to haul his gear to the beach. The grandson loved hunting for ghost crabs and playing in the sand. We found over 100 petrified shark teeth. 🦈

Why they chose this property

Home is owned by local Outer Banks family with a patriarchal famous Outer Banks fishing legend who originally bought it so he could fish and walk from the Marina to his house & not have to worry about a car. Home has been in the family since it was constructed. Only rented a handful of times, however, lack of use over the past several years has allowed us to offer this excellent home and share it's legacy.
